  • 2-year contract & fluctuating prices: Xfinity home security requires a 2-year contract at minimum. This is very similar to other service providers in the market but with one major difference. Xfinity contractually reserves the right to increase your monthly monitoring fees after the first year of service. And they are known for doing so often.
  • Additional Xfinity services required: In order to get access to Xfinity home security, you have to first utilize other Xfinity services. For the most basic home security packages, you’re required to have their high-speed internet service. For the more comprehensive home security plans, you’re required to have one of their “home packages” which includes a bundle of both internet and TV services. Because of these requirements, it creates a situation as a customer where you’re paying much more each month then you may have originally planned just to get access to Xfinity’s home security possibilities.
  • Core customer service complaints: Former and current Xfinity customers on the home security side have complained of problems with delays of service, billing issues resulting in extra fees, and poor customer service over the phone. A majority of the consumer reviews we have received here on this website regarding Xfinity have been negative experiences with the home security service.
  • Our recommendation: We recommend going with a more cost-effective solution that gives you an equal amount of home security technology but at much better pricing and with much better levels of customer service. Companies such as Frontpoint Security and Protect America.

Terrible service, can't support all forms of burglary protection, like glass break sensors. Outdated equipment. Filthy uninformed technicians that leave dirt marks all over you walls. Salespeople who don't put the right notes in the instructions. Horrible phone support that takes at least 10 minutes for anyone to pick up the phone. Absolutely terrible experience start to finish. Had to cancel it the day after they installed due to all the misinformation and sub-standard execution. Need to file an insurance claim now to remedy the damage they did to my house. Took 40 minutes of my time to call them to cancel and file complaint. World class terrible consumer experience.Read More

If you're going to spend money on home security do your self a favor and stay away from Xifinty Home. Take your time do research and invest in good home security. I will never use Xifinty Home security system again. Too many problem and glitches. You get what you pay for. I had too many false alarms and two caused me to leave work because it. Don't hate your time. I will never use any of comcast services again. Too much misleading going on. Customers service reps need better training. They say you're a valued customer but I never felt like one. Three years and I am happy to say I feel relieved to no have them or their high prices.Read More

The home security system is easily hacked. If you have an X that has your social number consider it useless. Video and activity was deleted as I was watching the tape of a break in. The agents have been unable to help, there is no cloud storage back up as with other systems, no way to monitor log in activity. Very angry as I am being repeatedly broken into and the system continues to fail me. I am going to try to get out of this contract. Most unhappy.

I work in IT. I have to have complete top-down, bottom-up control of my home network. It is my tiny domain of the internet and within it I am King and despot. Not so with Xfinity Home. No, with Xfinity Home you can’t use your own router. No, your router has to be put into bridge mode, which means it might as well not exist. All wifi capability is turned off. No, you HAVE to use a badgeless, nameless wifi router of questionable quality rather than the 300 dollar Ferrari of the router world you recently bought that does doughnuts around those (also nameless) Arris abominations that that Xfinity tries stuffing down your throat. So you’re stuck using a possibly unreliable router to not only surf the net and stream movies, but also to protect your home. Other security systems use a base station connected to your router which uses one of the many IoT protocols to communicate with the other security devices throughout the house. That’s a much better, safer system to install. This is like trying to send man to the Moon on a crop duster. And that’s before even pointing out that Xfinity will eventually inexplicably raise your rates.

Comcast techs are not equipped to accomplish what the jobs entails. When a tech talks to Comcast to set another appointment, (for the right type of tech to do the job) the exact requirements don’t get passed. Four techs in two months – only one was effective – others were a waste of time. When we bundled phone, computer, tv and security system, we were told a security system takeover was no problem, but one tech said it was not possible to take over motion sensors. That tech indicated that (Comcast) sensors could be installed at no cost to us. Another tech showed up next day and did not have sensors. Said he was not an “alarm” guy. When he called Comcast to reschedule, the “agent” on the phone tried to charge us $10 per sensor. Again – inconsistency and bumbling. NO – I would not recommend Comcast to my worst enemy.

No XFinity service install is not professional, I had to cancel an installation because the service person did not know his job order or have or bring all of the security equipment on the order sheet that was to be installed. Made a second appointment to have the security installed and they never showed up. Really bad customer service. Looking at other options. You would think for the cost which is high they could get it right.

    Happy Customer.

Own xfinity home for 5 months. Ours is existing system taking over to Xfinity. So no wireless devices (like sensors/motion).

First week – we did get false alarm as Xfinity home updating firmware while armed caused false alarm.

Otherwise no issues. Works great compare to previous alarm system.

I’m not sure why there are so many bad reviews of this service. I have had it for a few months now and never had one issue or false alarm. The motion detector works well, camera is always connected and recording, etc.

It is also way cheaper than most other services. I did a lot of shopping around.

This service half the time did not work. In the 6 months that I had the service, I have had over 8 service calls to come fix the service, as the cameras were almost always out and never worked for more than 2 weeks at a time. I did not feel secure and safe with their cameras and home security service. I was continuously charged full price every month even though Xfinity was well aware that my service was not up and fully functional. I got tired of having to take the day off of work to wait at home for a technician to come out and “fix” the issue only for the service to go back out two weeks later. I canceled the service in April; however, they still charged me in May and June and I am still going back and forth to get those charges reversed. I would NEVER recommend this service to anyone. Oh and every time I would call in to Xfinity to inform them of nonworking service, they would try to upsale me each and everytime…How about getting the service to work instead of trying to get me to purchase more services!

We had home security installed with other services is 9/14 and signed the two year contract. The two gentlemen that came out to install were in a hurry and put the keypad downstairs but assured us we could move it to the master bedroom. WRONG… we had issues with connection from the first day and could only arm and disarm from the downstairs where both pads were located. We moved after one year, were assured the contract would not start over and just had to pay a transfer fee and for ALL new equipment because of course things had upgraded in that year and our equipment was out of date.. Called today to meet my 90 day cancellation deadline to find with our move last sept the technician failed to inform me I was signing not only for a transfer of service BUT for a NEW CONTRACT! So I am now another 13 months out and have NEVER used our system once in the past 21 months. Customer service told me they would send me a copy of the signed contract from last sept and basically for me to get over it, and enjoy my piece of crap system and less than human customer service/-: RUN FAR FAR FAR away from xfinity home!!!! Daily communication error messages, dead battery indicator lights, and the motion detectors fall off the walls!

The system can’t even tell me what sensor is having problems unless I call in…in which case you don’t get a human but a robot menu that is excruciatingly painful to get to a human (scream “agent” as loud a you can). Then there’s the fun part of their modem/router not liking your own routers and network … WHHHAAATTTT?? Like be prepared to reboot OFTEN. Bad mistake and I’m a quad-play customer.

Ive been a comcast customer for years now, this has been my experience, the motion sensors are very low quality and half your house will get taken out by the time the sensor cathces them. (my sister has xfinity home, says her’s are the same way) and this time around i moved out of state and they had to reconnect my services back up since they couldn’t tranfer them. i receive my first bill and call them why its so high ($236) i spent half the day calling.
the first tech said sure ill change u back to the same “bundle” u had and when she switched me over to HOME so they could do that for me since they are different departments the home customer service agent was so rude and said she doesnt know why i was given such quotes that they arent available and that there was nothing she can do. i told her i was very dissapointed with paying more and wanted her to quote me other options, she said im sorry i cant help change your bill or bundle thats the best we can do
    ($157 monthly).
so i called again hoping to get a different rep and that day i spoke to 5 reps, two of them hung up of me and the 3rd one was kind enought to call me back. like on purpose bcuz i said to the previous 2 to connect me to the department i wanted to disconnect it for good. they offered 3 months free at the end but i said no bcuz id save 90 bucks and be back with such ghetto customer service. the reps in the home department are really rude. ive never had false alarms but the touch screen constantly looses connection and just rebooting it doesnt work i have to call the tech people to do it themselves, once had the guy come out and fix it bcuz it constantly kept disconnecting. im glad im done with them. all the reps have different stories different prices and info.
But if you are reading this after June 2016, and having them charge you for early terminiation of the security, supposedly you can cancel the 2 yr home agreement as long as u have the internet or another service with them, the rep said they spent alot of money getting that to their customers.. but then again, maybe another rep will tell you something different

    equipment – bad/ low quality/ malfunctioning
customer service – worst i’ve ever had
glad im done callig them at least for today

Worst experience with a company I’ve had. They practiced the usual sign up at a low cost then it raises sharply. My fault for not researching further because of course they’re not going to be upfront about it. I had to move out of state and the cancellation process has been a nightmare. Hours spent in the phone and each time getting a differe story. It stinks to feel so helpless and have no idea how to do anything about it. I was just told they would only charge me $200 because they care and not the $600 it should be? I am so confused at this point about how the fee goes up and down depending on who I talk to. Bottom line; read the contract closely. If something happens in your life and you have to move to wear it cannot be transferred, you will be out a lot of time and money

Horrible. The system is supposed to be fine for dogs under 80 lbs. We had this system installed less than 24 hours ago and have had more than 10 false alarms since then. Our dogs are 12 and 25 pounds. The 1 800 Xfinity number is not working and it took me 2 hours to just get in touch with a customer service representative- and that was only after the alarm company supervisor transferred me directly.

As a long time Comcast customer, I was impressed with the promotion of their home security system. We had an existing system that worked fine, but did not have video monitoring. I switched to Xfinity. In the past year plus, the system has been plagued by multiple false alarms. Numerous techs and a supervisor have not fixed the problem. I am now a pariah in our neighborhood with false alarms waking people in a three block area. Finally I requested that they remove their system and return my old system. They can do that but I must pay the early disconnect fee of $400 – 500, because we have a contract. Apparently the contract excludes their side which should guarantee a working system on their part.

Xfinity is complete crap! They told me I had a 36mth contract with them while I had their bundle for internet, cable and phone and this was separate. It malfunctioned exactly 35 days after installation and no monitoring for 5 days. Customer service was unaware and nobody knew how to fix the problem They refused to let me out of the contract past 30 days. I threatened to cut off the bundle ($200+ worth of service) if they kept me on the monitoring and they didn’t care, even after I did. I realize their company has no idea what their right and left hands are up to. I reported them multiple times to the BBB and corporate heads just kept thinking about contract and not about the dissatisfaction or that my home was left vulnerable for days. We went back and forth for weeks at the BBB until the case closed out of my frustration. The BBB is not rally any help in these matter I found they just facilitate and back and forth conversation between you and the corporation which goes on until you give up. During the whole time coming up to 36months I am having all kinds of false alarm (motion and doors both) system offline, and every craziness that I just gave up talking to them.

Horrid customer service and inept technical support. The battery on my thermometer needed changing, but after changing, resetting, rebooting, etc. The monitor still shows that the battery is low (and chirps as if a door is opening which makes my dogs – and everyone – crazy). They could not fix over the phone – tried troubleshooting to no avail – but still want to charge me for a service call to “change the batteries”! Even worse, they no longer sell or provide glass break sensors; they assured me that my pets, which weigh under 40lbs, would not set off motion sensors (they claim are good to 80lbs), but they do trigger the alarms, so I need to set my security system to “Stay” deactivating motion sensors. With no glass break sensors, my home is not secure! They will offer NO advice or support on where/how to purchase/install third-party sensors. Even WORSE, they will be disconnecting and no longer provide carbon monoxide sensors! When questioned, they “customer solutions” department actually asked me if these were so important to me, “Why did I not purchase them when I had the system installed”! Wow, such impertinence. Maybe my house got bigger? Finished our basement? Got two puppies? Now have a baby? (Answer is all four) Worst company on the planet. Will not release me from contract. Will now have to sue. Hopefully find attorney that will get class-action certified. I’m on a mission. I will take them down. Most dishonest company I have ever dealt with. The above only pertains to Home Security. Don’t get me started with the Internet and TV.

The system works fine. I’ve had it for almost two years now. Some of posts indicated problems but I’ve had very few. My O2 sensor was recalled and they sent me plenty to purchase another. The water sensor can’t be over riden with the touchpad. So if you have a water problem you need to deal with it immediately to stop that alarm. (That’s not necessarily a bad thing). I’ve added cameras and other components. The overall value is good. They now have the ability to utilize the camera’s motion sensor and will capture video events without having an intrusion. My only question is if I move where they don’t provide service, can I use the equipment with another service or self monitor.

Would not recommend this at all. Equipment never properly worked. The technicians never fixed the problem with the door sensors whenever they came out. I eventually stopped arming the system and finally just unplugged it. I couldn’t cancel it because of the contract. It has cameras, but they only record if the alarm has gone off. It’s just a pointless system. Total waste of money.

We have bundled services at our home. I would give the overall service a 5. However, the home security system was expensive to install and has not functioned properly since day 1. We have had the entire house wired and re-wired. All window sensors replaced several times and an alarm replaced 3 times that still does not work. We have the maintenance plan so have not had to pay for any of the follow up BUT, simply a poor, unreliable system as is the X1 format!

Too complicated to activate and when I click on the support link it activates my televisions over and over again.
I have yet to find out how to activate the base and then the other (6) devices. It should be a series of quick key strokes and the iPhone should do the rest.
It doest not matter as I have a professional service with a Weall key pad a remote keypad, my iPhone is alerted as are the police and others and I can scan each room through vedio on my phone.

Do not get Xfinity Home. No real issues when I had the service. The problems started after I cancelled and had returned all the equipment. Called on a Thursday to discontinue service (moving). Returned my equipment Monday and late, late that night I am woken up by the monitoring company about alarms going off from my equipment which I no longer have. Not only that but family members on the contact list are woken up in the middle of the night. Just about everyone is called excepty wife, only other person living in the house. Takes 4 more days of dealing with inept xfinity reps to stop the phone calls about my equipment having no signal. Duh, I gave you back your equipment! Stop calling me.

I’ve been a customer for years now. I decided to upgrade my alarm system due to burglary. It took xfinty 5 visits just to bring the window sensors request. After one of their visits my window was kicked in. Has the requested sensor been in place it may have trigger the alarm for the police. No one was helpful and when I requested a manager I was went to the billing Department. Now here they are a week later in my home without the same requested sensors. Maybe Xfinity techs are the ones coming into my home since they are not concerned with getting this right and continuously and purposely getting it wrong. Go with Vivint, I will be calling them today.

And yes, they gave me another appointment .. Xfinity officially sucks ..

I messed up when I signed the papers the contracted installer gave me to sign and plus if your services are bundled and changes are made to your package it extends your contract according to Comcast! Unfair business practices. I have seen that billing complaints can be sent to the FCC.

This letter is to notify you of a problem I am having with Xfinity Home,
Approximately 3 months I go I had work performed at my home. One of the sensors was damaged. I turned the zone off in my equipment and everything else functioned fine. Two months ago the equipment stopped working, along with the camera.

I called your customer service line and was informed that if I purchased the warranty all of my equipment would be covered. I was told that I would have to purchase the sensor and that is all. At no point in time was I told that I would be subjected to a $100 fee is a tech came to my house and installed the sensor. Furthermore, I asked the representative if the warranty covered the tech coming to my home and she said yes. In the scenario described above, she confirmed that the tech instal would be covered. Since you are able to record these conversations you can confirm her telling me that my instal would be covered.

On 1/29/16, I called to make good on my warranty. I was then informed that the instal would not be covered by one of your service representatives. She said, only the service of repairing existing equipment would be covered. I told her that I was never informed about this and I wanted to speak with her supervisor so that he could tell me why I would have to pay for the instal when the tech would already be at my home repairing equipment and I was previously told it would be covered. The customer service representative then came back on the phone and I asked her once again to transfer me to her manager. She said that this entire situation was confusing to her.
It seems to me that many of your representatives are often confused.

I was then transferred to Wayne (Operator ID 2_1) who told me that the service would not be covered. I asked him why. He said that the warranty did not cover instal. I attempted to tell him that a Xfinity customer representative told me that it would be in the aforementioned scenario. He said that he has the same equipment and that he would have to pay for an instal as well. I told him that I would like to speak to his manager because he was not hearing why I was upset with the entire situation. I had been on hold multiple times for 45 minutes and was upset that no one could give me a straight answer. He said that he was not going to keep transforming me until I got the answer that I wanted. I asked him again if he was understanding why I was upset. It is clear to me now that he did not understand. He then hung up on me instead of transferring me and made no attempt to call me. I will describe my dissatisfaction in the paragraph below.

I am dissatisfied with your customer service. If I called once to confirm that adding the warranty to my account would cover a tech instal it is unfair to get a different answer once I call to make good on the warranty. It is furthermore, insulting to have a manager not hear out my complaint. I am upset that I was given two different answers by your employees. I believe that your representatives could benefit from training on what services are covered under the Xfinity Home warranty.

Unfortunately, the problem remains unresolved. Please waive the installation fee and I will happily purchase the sensor.

Please contact me to confirm that you will honour my request.

Thank you for your anticipated assistance in resolving my problem.

    Sincerely,

I see Comcast has their employees now writing reviews otherwise it would rate a solid 1 – 1.5.

The app connects maybe 25% of the time … The cameras load so slow if they load at all. Give me a fricken break, the money we all pay for services and they can’t engineer an app that works? I have a second home in FL (Comcast not avail in my area) with a competitor and I have not had one issue with that system … it always works!!! If Comcast doesn’t want to put effort into good software maybe they should sell the alarm part of the business. It would certainly benefit us as consumers.

Get your crap together xfinity home because my contract IS up and I’m fixing to move along, nothing I’ve seen says they will get better because my experience in 2+ years is they have gotten worse!!

    UPDATE : 21 December 2015
Still garbage app that is poorly executed. Cameras do not record when they are needed the most (Bad guy breaking into your vehicle driveway). Terrible security system with very poor customer service.

I love my home security system. The camera is sleek and so is the tablet touchpad, I have mine set as a digital clock. Alarm is serious response, professional monitoring 24/7 … With or without power since it is wireless- great for me – living in FL. However response is so serious I found out in first month, my large pet kept setting it off, so advise if you Have an animal (I have a pretty large cat) to tell installer, he/she is in that area but tech or you can move sensor accordingly, so I did that and it’s been more accurate since- otherwise the system is great.. I have free battery backup and found out response time is better than adt, so for a legit system in my area, get what you pay for and then some w the snazzy app

So far have had 3 false alarms with police. System is not easy to understand. Better lay in a supply of 2 kinds of batteries you will need them because they don’t last long. When contract is done this will go away. Wife said just stop using it we don’t need the hassle.

Installation back in November 2014 was never done correctly. This was told to me by an xfinity technician who arrived to troubleshoot the system last week as the system was experiencing intermittent outages (not reassuring when your personal property and safety are at stake).

Called to cancel and was told early termination of $440. Asked to speak to a supervisor. I was passed along to the escalation department. Is it hard to believe that Xfinity has such a department?

It was there that I told my troubles with the system to Mae. She was obviously reading pablum from some dialogue book or remembrance from a team building exercise on how to handle a customer with a complaint. She did not hear a word of what I said. She just kept reiterating that there was no way she could waive the early termination fee. I asked her if she could contact the technician who had told me that system had been installed incorrectly. She said she could not do that even though she stated that she had access to the technical call.

Then I called again to get an address for a letter of complaint. No such address exists according to the Comcast representative who answered the call. “Why don’t you Google it she said.

There are great home security systems that you can install yourself and are month to month. And, half the price. Check out your options before you made the mistake I did by buying in to a 2 year contract with a company that boasts an “escalation department.”

Do not make any attempt to contact this company. After we were told by the installer that it would not work in our house because our wireless is not strong, we canceled installation. Now we get calls to reschedule two or three times a day. We tell them that we do not want it ever and to remove us from their list. They say that they have removed us from their list but the calls keep coming. They scheduled us for an appointment without our authorization. We had someone cancel it via chat, another on the phone –and finally contacted the head of Customer Service. All said it was canceled –and then they still showed up (we weren’t home). Now, they are back to calling twice a day. WE are at the point that we nearly need to change our phone number!!! I have never had a situation like this. Avoid this company.

This is by far the poorest service I have ever had. They can not figure out how to cancel alarms. The service center is beyond rude…I have been a customer over 10 years.

It’s funny to see so many pissed about having to pay $500-$800 early termination fees. I worked for Comcast, not a dealer, had Complementary Services, was laid off, and had to stop services after 2 years of actual an actual paid contract. When I sold Xfinity, I had no idea the security system, or Xfinity Home, was on a seperate 3 year contract from the other 2 year contract. I also did not know that the $450 maximum and prorated early termination fee does not apply to or count with security. With 13 months left on a 3 year contract that I never signed (but my employee handbook stated that early termination fees will not be charged), I have spent over a year fighting what started at over $4,500 total charge, down to a $1,300 early termination fee and another $800 for some elusive equipment I don’t have. I’d like to see you guys beat that one.

Fraud Fraud Fraud at all costs do not use this Xfinity system Colorado Springs they said that they would install smoke detectors, glass break and carbon monoxide sensors I signed up for a triple play package with the thought that would install these devices, the technician came to my house and took over my ADT system hardwired with no problems very professional and installed one smoke detector and said that he would have to come back to install additional devices, Xfinity called and set up an appointment for 3 to 5 PM never showed, received a call from the service tech and he said that they were not supposed to install the first detector due to problems and recall ( joke) took the day off for this. Called the complaint hot line women answered and said that in Florida they installed these devices so she was going to set up anther appointment for install, I told her to call Colorado Springs to be sure she called me back and said that they want to remove the smoke detector that they installed.
Called the corporate office and have a case number now remember that they are one of the most hated companies in America. In a nut shell
    1. No communication
    2. They will say anything to get you to sign up
    3. Poor response from their complaint department
