The Good

  • Enhanced Professional Monitoring
  • Alarm Mode Options
  • Xfinity Home Mobile App

Enhanced Professional Monitoring

Xfinity Home security systems offer around-the-clock professional monitoring. This specific type of security monitoring allows customers to get notifications anytime.

Alarm Mode Options

Customers can get a few different home automation Xfinity alarm modes with their home security system: Arm away, Arm stay, and Arm night.

  • Arm away alarm mode allows the customer to enable their home motion sensor when they are in the process of leaving their home.
  • Arm stay alarm mode allows the customer to arm their home security system while they are in their home. This system ensures that customers can move freely throughout their home while the system is armed.
  • Arm night alarm mode allows customers to get alerts if their perimeters are breached while the motion sensor for their home is disabled.

Xfinity Home Mobile App

Xfinity offers customers an app that allows customers to receive real-time alert notifications on their devices and allows them to control their home from wherever they are. Customers can control their thermostat, their lights, and more. The app also gives customers live video monitoring of their home at no extra cost. Customers do need to purchase xfinity security cameras, however, in order to obtain live video monitoring. Those who choose to purchase the live video package will get the indoor outdoor camera. Xfinity Home offers a camera with recording package as well that customers can choose.

The Bad

  • Two-Year Contract & Fluctuating Prices
  • Additional Xfinity Services Required
  • Core Customer Service Complaints

Two-Year Contract & Fluctuating Prices

Xfinity Home security requires a two-year contract at minimum. This is very similar to other service providers in the market but with one major difference. Xfinity contractually reserves the right to increase customers’ monthly monitoring fees after the first year of service, that’s why the cost for 24/7 professional monitoring is listed as “29.95/month for 12 months” out of a 24-month contract.

Additional Xfinity Services Required

In order to get access to Xfinity Home Security, customers have to first utilize other Xfinity services. For the most basic home security package, customers are required to have their high-speed internet service. For the more comprehensive home security package, customers are required to have one of their “home packages” which includes a bundle of both internet and TV services. Because of these requirements, it creates a situation where customers are paying much more each month then they may have originally planned just to get access to Xfinity home automation.

Those who want to add on equipment to their 24/7 monitoring service will need to purchase devices individually:

  • Door/window sensor: (1) $49.95; (3) $129.95; (5) $199.95
  • Indoor/outdoor camera: $1995.95
  • Motion sensor: $49.95
  • Outlet controller: $49.95
  • Smoke detector: $99.95
  • Zen Thermostat: $199.95

Core Xfinity Customer Service Complaints

Former and current Xfinity customers on the home security side have complained of problems with delays of service, billing issues resulting in extra fees, and poor Xfinity customer service over the phone. A majority of the consumer reviews we have received regarding Xfinity have been negative experiences with the home security service.

View Top-Rated Home Security Companies

The Bottom Line

As a home automation provider, Xfinity security does not compete with other companies. For starters, there have been several negative Xfinity home security reviews and Xfinity does require customers to sign a two-year contract, and tends to fluctuate with prices. Additionally, customers must obtain extra services in order to get access to Xfinity home security systems.

We recommend reading Xfinity Home reviews and looking at a more cost-effective solution that gives you an equal amount of home security technology but at much better pricing and with much better levels of customer service. Companies such as Frontpoint Security and Protect America.

It is my understanding that with this being a internet based home security system, all an intruder has to do is cut the cable coming into the house and the system is then useless. There would be an audible alarm inside the house but nothing that could be heard by neighbors. Also with cut or disconnected cable there would be no monitoring so no police notification. That makes it way to easy to bypass this system. Thanks to the sign in the front yard telling everyone that we have an internet based security system it would not take much thought on how to get in without detection.

This is the worst company I have dealt with. One price was quoted then your bill will increase a little every month. I started out at $146 and ended up at $195. then was told that it will go up another $59 at the end of the 2 year contract. I scrapped and went to Dish Network. Let me see how Dish will work out. Customer service is terrible. I spoke to a customer service rep who was very disrespectful and would not listen to the problems I was having.

We had internet and a home security system installed today and our installer was nothing short of fantastic. Russ was on time, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about Comcast and their equipment. I will be the first to admit my husband and I are not very up on technology but Russ took his time to explain and show us how everything works. I can honestly say in our 45 years of marriage we have never had such a great service man. We have been Comcast customers for over 36 years and today affirmed why we have stayed with them. If you want top quality tv, internet and home security system at fantastic pricing with exceptional installers, Comcast is the company to choose. Thank you Russ and Comcast, we appreciate dealing with such a great company.

Horrible Inept workers. Came out to install sensors and forgot the sticky tabs. Said they only get a few in the truck. BS. Smelled of rot and smoke in my home. Made me sick. Can’t lower volume on keypad. Can’t wait for contract to end. Please go elsewhere!

I have the Comcast home security system which was in a bundle. The above information is mainly correct as it has from what I now know a 2 year contract and increase in pricing. The system has had glitches with frequent need to change the battery to the alarm system pad. The security APP is inconsistent with when you can arm and disarm the system. I have to move and was told I have to pay a cancellation fee of $450 for home security. My advice is go without a security system contract especially with Comcast.

I am writing this review to warn potential Comcast customers not to sign up for home security service it does not work . You use a computer like tablet instead of a regular keypad like all of the other security companies does. They do not ask you for a password for the system. If alarm is accidently activated they will call your contact people instead of you. If you have to call customer service they are unprofessional and rude. If you cancel home security before the two year promotion period you will be charged $600.00 if you want to cancel other Xfinity services. When I did not have the right password police came to my house.

    Minimum Two-Year Agreement

Xfinity Home Security requires a minimum two-year contract, regardless of the package that a customer selects. Although this contract length is sorter than the industry average of three years, there are some companies that offer a variety of service agreement lengths or do not require a contract at all.
NOTE: I have been in a contact for 4 years! having to move yearly :( due to no rent control… now I no longer need it and im stuck for one more year., and being forced to give forwarding address.
    will never use again

DONT GET THIS! IT DOES NOT WORK MOST OF THE TIME. YOU CAN NOT GET SERVICE WHEN IT DOESNT WORK, YOU ARE ON THE PHONE WITH THEM FOR HOURS, THEY DO NOT HONOR WHAT THEY SAY THEY DO, THEY GIVE YOU THE RUN AROUND AND NO ONE SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO HELP YOU. I HAVE NOT HAD MY SECUITY WORKING FOR ALMOST 2 MONTHS. THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO SEND SOMEONE OUT AND AS I WAS SITTING HOME WAITING FOR THEM THEY CALLED AND SAID SOMEONE WAS AT MY HOME AND I WAS NOT THERE…AS I WAS STANDING AT THE FRONT DOOR WITH NO SERVICE TECH. XFINITY SHOULD NOT BE IN THE HOME SECURITY BUSINESS. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING

Our home was broken into in August, 2017. The sliding glass door sensor did not work, and Xfinity stopped selling the glass-break window sensor in 2016, because it wasn’t reliable. When I explained to them my home was broken into and that I’d paid for security services for the past 3 years that didn’t work, they were all too happy to discontinue my services without further charges. The problem? They are continuing to sell a bogus product to millions of unsuspecting Americans, whom, should they suffer a home invasion, will experience the same lackadaisical display of “I don’t gaf because I already have your money, so I can let you go at this point,” disposition.

My husband called to have a security system scheduled for install. When they called to confirm, they confirmed the wrong date. When we inquired, our appointment was rescheduled for another date without our knowledge. When we took the day off of work for our next set appointment, we came to find out that our appointment was once again cancelled and changed without notification. Customer service was HORRENDOUS!!! They could give us no explanation for why this was occurring. We are moving on the another security company.

I have had comcast home security for over a year now, and I realized last night that I’ve been paying for absolutely nothing. Last night my alarm was activated, I didn’t even really hear the alarm, the police was NOT notified, and no one got through to me to see if I was okay. When I called customer service to talk to someone about it, they told me that it was my job to register with the local police. NO ONE ever told me this! I will be switching today.

I’m usually a positive person in all aspects of my life, but unfortunately when it comes to Comcast I have to digress. I did leave their cable service, but stuck with the alarm because it entailed my windows and had a good package at the time for the camera at my front door. However, multiple issues came forward – from the camera not working, to various sensors in the house being dead, to the connection to my phone (which they bragged about) never working. Getting someone on the phone is near impossible. The last time I phone them I was on hold for over twenty minutes. When I finally spoke with someone for a service call (which I had received an email about – needing mandatory service by them for my system), the operator informed me that she couldn’t “schedule my visit without an authorization from her manager because he had the code.” After waiting another twenty minutes, I asked her to call me back. No call back. I can’t wait for my contract to end.

This service is a absolute joke. The cameras are wifi base and they go out constantly. Your cancellation period is 30 days however your first bill is until after 31 days and all undisclosed fees come out. Called to try and cancel it and they kick you out of all promotional offers and raise the price to almost the same price if you just kept the crappy service. ADT has much better service and a much better price. Beware Comcast will omit all they need to just to get you to sign on the dotted line and then you’re screwed. Stay away from this crap

The technician was very helpful, and took the time to explain how to use the system. I cancelled ADT, and all of a sudden ADT wanted to offer me more services at a discounted rate. They lied about the price and kept going up. My experience with Xfinity has been great…on time, very knowledgable, and transparent in the cost. The same can’t be said about ADT.

I have no idea why this system is rated poorly by so many.

I have had the system for awhile now and it is excellent. Installation was on time as scheduled and was relatively quick. The tech was very informative. The equipment works perfectly and is aesthetically pleasing. The app is very useful and easy to use. I get up to date notifications right on my cell phone. I know if the alarm has been armed /disarmed, I know if there was any motion in the house, and I know if any doors or Windows have been opened or not. Even if you lose power the system has a battery backup. Even if someone cuts your cable it has cellular communication.

The add one from Home Depot are a huge plus! Cameras, smoke detectors, thermostats, lighting, and garage door sensor to name a few.

    Excellent system! Highly recommended!

The bottom line, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. If you have their other services with Xfinity, don’t add security to the mix. If your internet goes down, your app goes down. If you’re looking to enter your house, you usually have to wait on the app to load before you can shut the system off and if you are having issues, you will have to wait or rush inside to shut it off manually. When I had the system installed and asked about remotes, I was told they were available but in fact they do not offer any remotes for their system.
If you have an issue with your internet connection, and it can not be fixed over the phone and the result is an equipment issue, they will not simply exchange equipment to fix the issue like they would if you were just, an triple play customer. Now because you’re an Xfinity home customer, they will have to send a field person out to fix matters and only they can swap the equipment because of the security system.
So right now my internet is working intermittently at best and when I called for assistance, they told me to head to an office to exchange equipment. When I got there, they refused to exchange any equipment because I have their Home Security System and now I will have to wait 3 days before anyone can come out to fix it.
We were ADT customers prior to this and never had any issues with our system. These internet based systems may be cheaper but are mediocre at best and should be avoided. Xfinity Home Security has a long way to go before you should relay on them to deliver something as important as your peace of mind.
Xfinity creates a monthly incident report that gets deleted after 30 days. For the month of June, our report showed that there were 21 incidents with our system (meaning system down or not functioning as it should in some capacity). I think that equates to an issue every weekday this month…..
