Pros

Enhanced Professional Monitoring

Xfinity Home security systems offer around-the-clock professional monitoring. This specific type of security monitoring allows customers to get notifications anytime.

Alarm Mode Options

Customers can get a few different home automation Xfinity alarm modes with their home security system: Arm away, Arm stay, and Arm night.

  • Arm away alarm mode allows the customer to enable their home motion sensor when they are in the process of leaving their home.
  • Arm stay alarm mode allows the customer to arm their home security system while they are in their home. This system ensures that customers can move freely throughout their home while the system is armed.
  • Arm night alarm mode allows customers to get alerts if their perimeters are breached while the motion sensor for their home is disabled.

Xfinity Home Mobile App

Xfinity offers customers an app that allows customers to receive real-time alert notifications on their devices and allows them to control their home from wherever they are. Customers can control their thermostat, their lights, and more. The app also gives customers live video monitoring of their home at no extra cost. Customers do need to purchase xfinity security cameras, however, in order to obtain live video monitoring. Those who choose to purchase the live video package will get the indoor outdoor camera. Xfinity Home offers a camera with recording package as well that customers can choose.

Cons

Two-Year Contract & Fluctuating Prices

Xfinity Home security requires a two-year contract at minimum. This is very similar to other service providers in the market but with one major difference. Xfinity contractually reserves the right to increase customers’ monthly monitoring fees after the first year of service, that’s why the cost for 24/7 professional monitoring is listed as “29.95/month for 12 months” out of a 24-month contract.

Additional Xfinity Services Required

Individuals cannot purchase Xfinity Home Security unless they are already customers of Xfinity (internet, cable, phone, etc). For the most basic home security package, customers are required to have their high-speed internet service. For the more comprehensive home security package, customers are required to have one of their “home packages” which includes a bundle of both internet and TV services. Because of these requirements, it creates a situation where customers are paying much more each month then they may have originally planned just to get access to Xfinity home automation.

Core Xfinity Customer Service Complaints

Former and current Xfinity customers on the home security side have complained of problems with delays of service, billing issues resulting in extra fees, and poor Xfinity customer service over the phone. A majority of the consumer reviews we have received regarding Xfinity have been negative experiences with the home security service.

Our Recommendation

As a home automation provider, Xfinity security does not compete with other companies. For starters, there have been several negative Xfinity home security reviews- specifically about their two-year contract with fluctuating monthly monitoring costs. Additionally, customers must obtain extra services in order to get access to Xfinity home security systems.

We do not recommend Xfinity Home Security at this time because you have to purchase other services from them, they can change your monthly fees, and they have negative customer reviews. We recommend looking into companies such as Frontpoint Security and Protect America.

How Much is Xfinity Home Security?

Xfinity Home Security vs Protect America & Vivint

The biggest difference between Xfinity Home Security and Protect America is that Xfinity Home Security is offered as an add on to their other services – not as a stand-alone. Additionally, Xfinity customer rate the company 2/10, as opposed to the 8/10 rating Protect America customers give them.

Customer are not told upfront about all the fee. What’s advertised on TV I’d not what’s sold to you when you sign up. The price changed without me knowing.

In my opinion, Xfinity security system is VERY expensive and completely worthless. I have been using this system for 19 months now and in that time I have had my vehicle broken into twice, an intruder got my front door opened and a trailer was stolen out of my backyard in broad daylight. The Xfinity security cameras caught none of it. This system is a complete waste of money! If you are looking for a security system, keep searching!

Customer Service- Horrible. I called and for information and representative would not even talk to me until the bill was paid. I had never NOT paid a bill. She acted like a bill collector for a transferred delinquent account. After paying the bill, I was transferred and placed on hold for 40 minutes. For Xfinity Home service, TERRIBLE!!!! If power goes off, service has to be reset. You have to call them and it takes forever to get through. Cameras are not good (purchased in 2016…no night vision and no upgrades.) Contractor left wires hanging everywhere. Each person is contracted, so you never get individuals who work directly for Xfinity.

What is the purpose of being able to cancel an alarm from your phone if they still send the police out if you do not answer the phones. If I’m at work in a meeting but I still cancelled the alert, why would you send the cops out? Even when I called to state I had cancelled and because I had given a incorrect passcode and had already stopped the alarm you still call the police. You can verify that it was one of the numbers I had provided, so why would you send the cops out. To me its a waste of money, the sensors always need batteries, the billing is off, customer service sucks because they work for the company and are protecting their interest; WHAT is the purpose of being able to control from your devices but yet I’m now getting billed from the police department $100 because you failed to recognize that the alerts were cancelled from my registered cell number. I HATE COMCAST. WHEN I MOVE I WILL NEVER USE AGAIN. WHATS THE POINT THEY ARE USELESS, AND FOR THE POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY PROVIDE JUST KEEP RENTERS/HOME INSURANCE YOUR ITEMS WILL BE COVERED QUICKER THEN THEM DOING THEIR JOB.

I wasn’t aware my bill was going to be 700 one time. After that. The guy that came out was a joke trying to do the bare minimum to get the job done. He’s cone out twice both times not getting any results. 2 cameras still don’t work after 2 months. Still and after last visit he didn’t even want to touch the camera on the garage

Best product for my home security needs. Everything works well. Unlike the numerous false alarms I had with ADT (cats were constantly calling the police), I haven’t had a single false alarm with this system. The system runs through the internet but it also has wireless backup in case someone cuts the cable. The price is competitive, in my area anyway.

Xfinity home is the worst ever security system I ever have. It’s always having issues, from losing communications, motion sensor not functioning, to difficulty logging online & more. Service is even worst. One time I called & was promised that tech would come in the next several hours, the guy gave me 2-4 o’clock pm window.. I waited but no one came I called again & was told that an appointment was made but not scheduled.

My bills keep increasing each month over the cost of my agreed plan, If you call & complain you’d be presented with all reasons in the book .You can’t win. FCC. please do something.

I’ve had a few different security services in my life and Xfininity is by far the worst. They bait and switch you with a nice low sounding price over the phone, then bill you with all kinds of hidden fees after you’ve signed the contract. On top if all that they more than doubled my monthly after my first year, and there was nothing I could do because I was still under contract. In addition to all that, their equipment is garbage! I had constant issues with the sensors, cameras, etc. Don’t waste your time, go with a real security company.

We purchased the Xfinity security system with camera about 6 months ago. Installation was scheduled very fast and the installer did a pretty good job. The price was ($300 each) much higher then we wanted to pay, but needed a system installed on a deadline. They claimed free installation, but then billed me for it. After fighting with their staff, part of the fee was removed. Since installation, the security strips at the doors and windows keep falling of so we can’t set the alarm. The cameras continuously give a “Comm Error” and we have had the company re-set them multiple times and I have had re-set the cameras manually many many times. The cameras do not pick up people or animals any further then about 40 yards so picking up video in a big yard it not going to happen. When I called because of the camera issues I was told there was only a 1 month warranty on them. We would not purchase this system again as it is expensive, inefficient, useless, and unreliable.

Basically, the window alarms from Walmart are the same as what they use. And if Comcast cable tv sucks, and they are willing to let you out of contract, Xfinity home security still won’t. But, you can’t use their security without Comcast internet. We are getting ready to escalate complaint against this company, having now filed a complaint with state attorney general, and lawsuit will follow if they do not terminate or if they send us to collections. Xfinity internet speeds are not as advertised, either. Actual download speed for us is 33 mbs.

This was the craziest experience I have ever had. I have talked to six different customer service agents and Managers and all have different offers. First they told me no install fee and take over my system with three free cameras and no cloud fee and 29.00 a month. Then they went to set install date and system would not do it, whoops, cant give away three cameras, only one. Called back to ask how much additional cameras would cost. They said 99 and 199 depending on which service but the service went from 29 a month to 15 a month. I like that. I figured I would get my own cameras being that they wanted 10 per camera per month to monitor. I agreed. Set the date for the take over and the tech showed up and said he thought he was doing a wireless set up and did not have time for a take over. He said it could be done but just not enough time that day. I said don’t bother you guys have wasted enough of my time. Called a Manager to complain and she offered two free cameras and service went from 15 a month to 5 a month. I like that even better! Set up to do the take over and she said it was a big job due to all my doors and windows and today the tech came and said this is a “commercial job” and could only cover 15 zones and I have like 40. I had to leave to take the kids to school so I told him to put my boxes back together which he had taken apart and I wanted to speak to a manager when I got back which was less than 15 minutes. I came back home and his truck was gone and my front door was open, and this is a security company?? My box covers were on but screws hanging out. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I called to talk to a manager and they said I would have a call back in 30 minutes and it is not a commercial size , they can have up to 62 zones! That was an hour ago and no call!! Save yourself the headache and find a real security company!!

If you’re going to spend money on home security do your self a favor and stay away from Xifinty Home. Take your time do research and invest in good home security. I will never use Xifinty Home security system again. Too many problem and glitches. You get what you pay for. I had too many false alarms and two caused me to leave work because it. Don’t hate your time. I will never use any of comcast services again. Too much misleading going on. Customers service reps need better training. They say you’re a valued customer but I never felt like one. Three years and I am happy to say I feel relieved to no have them or their high prices.

It is my understanding that with this being a internet based home security system, all an intruder has to do is cut the cable coming into the house and the system is then useless. There would be an audible alarm inside the house but nothing that could be heard by neighbors. Also with cut or disconnected cable there would be no monitoring so no police notification. That makes it way to easy to bypass this system. Thanks to the sign in the front yard telling everyone that we have an internet based security system it would not take much thought on how to get in without detection.

This is the worst company I have dealt with. One price was quoted then your bill will increase a little every month. I started out at $146 and ended up at $195. then was told that it will go up another $59 at the end of the 2 year contract. I scrapped and went to Dish Network. Let me see how Dish will work out. Customer service is terrible. I spoke to a customer service rep who was very disrespectful and would not listen to the problems I was having.

We had internet and a home security system installed today and our installer was nothing short of fantastic. Russ was on time, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about Comcast and their equipment. I will be the first to admit my husband and I are not very up on technology but Russ took his time to explain and show us how everything works. I can honestly say in our 45 years of marriage we have never had such a great service man. We have been Comcast customers for over 36 years and today affirmed why we have stayed with them. If you want top quality tv, internet and home security system at fantastic pricing with exceptional installers, Comcast is the company to choose. Thank you Russ and Comcast, we appreciate dealing with such a great company.

Horrible Inept workers. Came out to install sensors and forgot the sticky tabs. Said they only get a few in the truck. BS. Smelled of rot and smoke in my home. Made me sick. Can’t lower volume on keypad. Can’t wait for contract to end. Please go elsewhere!

I have the Comcast home security system which was in a bundle. The above information is mainly correct as it has from what I now know a 2 year contract and increase in pricing. The system has had glitches with frequent need to change the battery to the alarm system pad. The security APP is inconsistent with when you can arm and disarm the system. I have to move and was told I have to pay a cancellation fee of $450 for home security. My advice is go without a security system contract especially with Comcast.

I am writing this review to warn potential Comcast customers not to sign up for home security service it does not work . You use a computer like tablet instead of a regular keypad like all of the other security companies does. They do not ask you for a password for the system. If alarm is accidently activated they will call your contact people instead of you. If you have to call customer service they are unprofessional and rude. If you cancel home security before the two year promotion period you will be charged $600.00 if you want to cancel other Xfinity services. When I did not have the right password police came to my house.

    Minimum Two-Year Agreement

Xfinity Home Security requires a minimum two-year contract, regardless of the package that a customer selects. Although this contract length is sorter than the industry average of three years, there are some companies that offer a variety of service agreement lengths or do not require a contract at all.
NOTE: I have been in a contact for 4 years! having to move yearly :( due to no rent control… now I no longer need it and im stuck for one more year., and being forced to give forwarding address.
    will never use again
