The Good

  • Enhanced Professional Monitoring
  • Alarm Mode Options
  • Xfinity Home Mobile App

Enhanced Professional Monitoring

Xfinity Home security systems offer around-the-clock professional monitoring. This specific type of security monitoring allows customers to get notifications anytime.

Alarm Mode Options

Customers can get a few different home automation Xfinity alarm modes with their home security system: Arm away, Arm stay, and Arm night.

  • Arm away alarm mode allows the customer to enable their home motion sensor when they are in the process of leaving their home.
  • Arm stay alarm mode allows the customer to arm their home security system while they are in their home. This system ensures that customers can move freely throughout their home while the system is armed.
  • Arm night alarm mode allows customers to get alerts if their perimeters are breached while the motion sensor for their home is disabled.

Xfinity Home Mobile App

Xfinity offers customers an app that allows customers to receive real-time alert notifications on their devices and allows them to control their home from wherever they are. Customers can control their thermostat, their lights, and more. The app also gives customers live video monitoring of their home at no extra cost. Customers do need to purchase xfinity security cameras, however, in order to obtain live video monitoring. Those who choose to purchase the live video package will get the indoor outdoor camera. Xfinity Home offers a camera with recording package as well that customers can choose.

The Bad

  • Two-Year Contract & Fluctuating Prices
  • Additional Xfinity Services Required
  • Core Customer Service Complaints

Two-Year Contract & Fluctuating Prices

Xfinity Home security requires a two-year contract at minimum. This is very similar to other service providers in the market but with one major difference. Xfinity contractually reserves the right to increase customers’ monthly monitoring fees after the first year of service, that’s why the cost for 24/7 professional monitoring is listed as “29.95/month for 12 months” out of a 24-month contract.

Additional Xfinity Services Required

In order to get access to Xfinity Home Security, customers have to first utilize other Xfinity services. For the most basic home security package, customers are required to have their high-speed internet service. For the more comprehensive home security package, customers are required to have one of their “home packages” which includes a bundle of both internet and TV services. Because of these requirements, it creates a situation where customers are paying much more each month then they may have originally planned just to get access to Xfinity home automation.

Those who want to add on equipment to their 24/7 monitoring service will need to purchase devices individually:

  • Door/window sensor: (1) $49.95; (3) $129.95; (5) $199.95
  • Indoor/outdoor camera: $1995.95
  • Motion sensor: $49.95
  • Outlet controller: $49.95
  • Smoke detector: $99.95
  • Zen Thermostat: $199.95

Core Xfinity Customer Service Complaints

Former and current Xfinity customers on the home security side have complained of problems with delays of service, billing issues resulting in extra fees, and poor Xfinity customer service over the phone. A majority of the consumer reviews we have received regarding Xfinity have been negative experiences with the home security service.

View Top-Rated Home Security Companies

The Bottom Line

As a home automation provider, Xfinity security does not compete with other companies. For starters, there have been several negative Xfinity home security reviews and Xfinity does require customers to sign a two-year contract, and tends to fluctuate with prices. Additionally, customers must obtain extra services in order to get access to Xfinity home security systems.

We recommend reading Xfinity Home reviews and looking at a more cost-effective solution that gives you an equal amount of home security technology but at much better pricing and with much better levels of customer service. Companies such as Frontpoint Security and Protect America.

I don’t have an issue with the home security features. They work as advertised. This company is not cheap to use in any arena. To get the home security you have to up your internet speed and also sign a contract. We got approached in a Walmart store by their vendors and promised something that x-finity would not honor. Could have sued them and won but they made it good with credits.

NEVER WORKS, constanty loses communication with door sensors. Indicates they are opening in the middle of the night, when they clearly are not. What a mess! instead of piece of mind, my mind is on edge and shattered in pieces for no reason. SCREW YOU COMCAST

Not sure why all of the negative reviews. The system works great and they are cheaper than the competitors.

This system is a toy. If someone breaks in and smashes the control unit with a hammer. There is no alarm system remaining. So if someone scoped out your house and knows you have this system, guess what?

We recently moved house and requested that xfinity home transfer our home security to the new address. The xfinity tech that visited our new home first complained that his word order was incorrect. When I clarified that I was not responsible for creating the work order; he told me he would not be able to complete the work irrespective. After one hour, he ended up ripping a hole on our closet wall and still not managing to get the home security system to work.He abruptly left saying I would have to reschedule on my own and left all my home security panels scattered.
I called Xfinity to reschedule and they gave a date that was one week out. In addition they canceled one of my TV premium channels because it was through a bundle that included xfinity home. Their reasoning was – if xfinity home has an open work request that is not resolved; all services that part of that bundle – including TV – will need to be suspended until the open work order is closed. It seems xfinity is punishing me for they not being able to install my home security. Xfinity sucks!!

I have never used Xfinity Home Alarm before, and we’ve never had an alarm system at our house, so I’m completely new to the whole Alarm business, but here is what happened.

Someone I know has the alarm system. Door sensors, and window sensors. I went to their house to do work, and they forgot to disarm them. Great, the alarms about to go off, and I only have 2 minutes to type in the code they never gave me. It took me about 20 seconds to find a way to just shut the whole system off, and the alarm stopped. The police are suppose to be called to my understanding when the alarm goes off, but I waited for them and no one showed. Before I left I got the alarm running and it was as if I was never there. This is a complete scam honestly. If you don’t have to deal with Comcast don’t. Comcast is ranked one of the worse companies for customer satisfaction, and clearly their products aren’t up to par.

I am being forced to pay over $900 for a home security system installed by Comcast that never worked. Per the customer agreement, Comcast provides and maintains the service and I pay monthly fees. An early termination fee applies if the service is canceled by me after 30 days. In short, that is the terms of the agreement.
At no time did the system work even to the lowest industry standards. Several false alarms occurred in the middle of the night, startling me awake. After determining that it was indeed not an intruder causing these alarms, I thought it may be my doors shaking slightly. I attempted to stabilize them. Over time it became apparent that it was poor quality in the system that caused the false alarms. So I called Comcast to repair the system. They did not show for the appointment. Since they wasted my time and I had lost faith in the system they installed, I terminated the service as they were in breach of the agreement to provide a system that worked.
An ethical company would refund the money spent on the faulty system. Comcast not only will not refund the money I spent, but is also charging me the early termination fee since it was just outside the 30 day period. Never mind that I never had a working system in my house. This type of treatment of their now former good customers is the reason they have earned the reputation as being an unethical and poor performing service and utility company.
I have spoken repeatedly to their corporate customer service. It seems that the home security department is separate and makes their own determinations as to how to treat their customers. I have filed complaints with the BBB, the PSC, and the GA State Attorney’s Office. Comcast will not back down. I am paying the bill simply to protect my credit from Comcast’s predatory nature. My next step is to consider suing in Magistrates Court (thankfully, I did not agree to the arbitration clause in the agreement).
If you are considering a new home security system, consider the many quality alternatives out there. My advice is to not use Comcast for obvious reasons. Their security system is inferior and is only surpassed by their terrible customer service.

we have been comcast customers for 30 years. Basically we have been pleased overall in their services and customer responses. Now, we have added the X Finity Alarm system and are delighted with the installation by a professional and its performance. It is user friendly and the least costly of the choices in our area. Because we were long time customers, there are no cancellation fees and the $20. per month charge is locked in by contract. Highly recommend.

I love Xfinity, had the Xfinity home for over a year and was very upset when my sensors started triggering false alarms. I had Comcast out here many times and the bottom line was that they couldn’t do anything for me after replacing all the equipment and still had issues. They let me out of my contract though.

This is a horrible service and the company locks you in a contract and cannot get out. Customer Service is trained not to cancel any service lines. I wish the government did not allow monopolies in Cable, Phone, etc. Customers lose!

Warning – do not get XFINITY home security – I had security systems installed in of October beginning of November 2016 – my home was broken into – the alarm was set – the burglars kicked in the basement – in my basement is the motion sensor – when they entered the basement the sensor did not pick it up – up stairs is where the camera is located – mind you the camera is suppose to pick up motion and record – camera did not record – the alarm did not go off until the burglar or barglars open a door to exit the home the camera did not start recording until the alarm went off – customer service tried calling us we were not available they called my daughter, asked her was we home because the alarm is going off – she told them my parents are at work – my daughter was able to reach my husband to inform him – he was able to go on his phone & see one of the burglars coming back into the home – Xfinity nevered notified the police my husband had to call – the police was at my home in 2 minutes after my husband called – I would not recommend the service – I spoke with Ken Xfinity home escalation supervisor – he was no help – I canceled my service

COMCAST started limiting their Data in November of 2015. Certain areas were limited to 300GB. They change their plans at any time and as a customer you are not grandfathered in. That means your unlimited data plan became limited at 300GB. In November of 2016 the limit was changed to 1TB of data limit. When I spoke with a Comcast representative they did state it could be changed again at any time. That’s how this company works and it is in their Terms Of Service Agreement when you sign on. Why am I stating this here? Because Comcast Security services works off of WiFi/Internet and uses Data. If you add the camera you will have 24/7 video at the cost of Data. While Comcast offers an Unlimited Data option on your plan it costs an extra $50. That means you will have the cost of your Security Service, with Comcast’s ability to change your rates and plan at anytime they wish, with the extra cost of Unlimited Data. Something to consider.

We got the Security system installed with the thermostat that is part of the package. They had installed the wrong type of thermostat for the heat pump unit we had and it ran our unit wrong until it stopped working and we were without heat. Comcast came to our home 3x and assured us the reason for no heat was not the thermostat. Then we finally got an HVAC company and they said it is the wrong type of thermostat for our type of heating unit and that it was also not wired properly.

Wihile Comcast requires that you have other services to also have the securuty system through their company, the customer/sales person never says that there will be 2 termination fee – one for the qualifying service and another for the security system. We cancelled our service because they were so exense once installation occurred. We were then billed $640 for cancllation. $320 for the bundled triple play and then $320 for the secu4ity system – which we we not allowed to have without the bundle. It was never poin ted out that there would be a separate cancellation fee. I think that we will be contacting an attorney. How can they require that you have a bundle through them in order to get the security system. Then when you cancel the bundle they require that you cancel the security system but charge an outrageous fee to cancel as they require!

Security monitoring system went down often and no one called to alert.
Had to reboot system often to enable broadband/cameras.
They were suppose to call the phone numbers per the contract but never did.
They sent one e-mail alerting me that there might be system failure when in actuality I had cancelled and turned in the equipment a week earlier.
