Pros

Enhanced Professional Monitoring

Xfinity Home security systems offer around-the-clock professional monitoring. This specific type of security monitoring allows customers to get notifications anytime.

Alarm Mode Options

Customers can get a few different home automation Xfinity alarm modes with their home security system: Arm away, Arm stay, and Arm night.

  • Arm away alarm mode allows the customer to enable their home motion sensor when they are in the process of leaving their home.
  • Arm stay alarm mode allows the customer to arm their home security system while they are in their home. This system ensures that customers can move freely throughout their home while the system is armed.
  • Arm night alarm mode allows customers to get alerts if their perimeters are breached while the motion sensor for their home is disabled.

Xfinity Home Mobile App

Xfinity offers customers an app that allows customers to receive real-time alert notifications on their devices and allows them to control their home from wherever they are. Customers can control their thermostat, their lights, and more. The app also gives customers live video monitoring of their home at no extra cost. Customers do need to purchase xfinity security cameras, however, in order to obtain live video monitoring. Those who choose to purchase the live video package will get the indoor outdoor camera. Xfinity Home offers a camera with recording package as well that customers can choose.

Pros

Two-Year Contract & Fluctuating Prices

Xfinity Home security requires a two-year contract at minimum. This is very similar to other service providers in the market but with one major difference. Xfinity contractually reserves the right to increase customers’ monthly monitoring fees after the first year of service, that’s why the cost for 24/7 professional monitoring is listed as “29.95/month for 12 months” out of a 24-month contract.

Additional Xfinity Services Required

In order to get access to Xfinity Home Security, customers have to first utilize other Xfinity services. For the most basic home security package, customers are required to have their high-speed internet service. For the more comprehensive home security package, customers are required to have one of their “home packages” which includes a bundle of both internet and TV services. Because of these requirements, it creates a situation where customers are paying much more each month then they may have originally planned just to get access to Xfinity home automation.

Those who want to add on equipment to their 24/7 monitoring service will need to purchase devices individually:

  • Door/window sensor: (1) $49.95; (3) $129.95; (5) $199.95
  • Indoor/outdoor camera: $1995.95
  • Motion sensor: $49.95
  • Outlet controller: $49.95
  • Smoke detector: $99.95
  • Zen Thermostat: $199.95

Core Xfinity Customer Service Complaints

Former and current Xfinity customers on the home security side have complained of problems with delays of service, billing issues resulting in extra fees, and poor Xfinity customer service over the phone. A majority of the consumer reviews we have received regarding Xfinity have been negative experiences with the home security service.

Our Recommendation

As a home automation provider, Xfinity security does not compete with other companies. For starters, there have been several negative Xfinity home security reviews and Xfinity does require customers to sign a two-year contract, and tends to fluctuate with prices. Additionally, customers must obtain extra services in order to get access to Xfinity home security systems.

We recommend reading Xfinity Home reviews and looking at a more cost-effective solution that gives you an equal amount of home security technology but at much better pricing and with much better levels of customer service. Companies such as Frontpoint Security and Protect America.

Wihile Comcast requires that you have other services to also have the securuty system through their company, the customer/sales person never says that there will be 2 termination fee – one for the qualifying service and another for the security system. We cancelled our service because they were so exense once installation occurred. We were then billed $640 for cancllation. $320 for the bundled triple play and then $320 for the secu4ity system – which we we not allowed to have without the bundle. It was never poin ted out that there would be a separate cancellation fee. I think that we will be contacting an attorney. How can they require that you have a bundle through them in order to get the security system. Then when you cancel the bundle they require that you cancel the security system but charge an outrageous fee to cancel as they require!

Security monitoring system went down often and no one called to alert.
Had to reboot system often to enable broadband/cameras.
They were suppose to call the phone numbers per the contract but never did.
They sent one e-mail alerting me that there might be system failure when in actuality I had cancelled and turned in the equipment a week earlier.

Comcast now has one package and you do not need other services like the review says. The price starts off at 29.99 for the first 2 years and then goes up to 39.99
The system has a built in cell connection in case the line is cut. Other companies charge for that service. And the equipment is the same stuff other companies use and Comcast does not monitor the system COPS does.
You guys need to get your facts right….

This company states that it locks you into a two-year account, but when I reached the end of the two years I was told that at some point when I’d asked for maintenance on a malfunctioning portion I’d been changed over to a NEW two-year account. WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. During most of the two years they have been steadily increasing the extra fees. My bill never has any resemblance to the “bundle” price for which I signed up.

I have only had this home security system for 38 days and it has been nothing but problems from the service to the price! I got this system to monitor my home because I have a soon-to-be husband who will not stop breaking in to my home. 30 days in my cameras were shut off and my home was cleaned out by guess who! This is the most ridiculous security system I’ve ever installed! I’m better off buying a system with no monitoring!

I cannot advise enough that you do not select Comcast for your home security needs. At installation I informed the subcontracted installer that I did not plan to keep the home security system for the full term. I was told that it would be o.k., that I would be required to turn in the equipment only or be charged a fee. So, after deciding I no longer wanted the service….I attempted to turn in the equipment on two occasions; both times the local Comcast office was not prepared to receive the equipment (printer not working, etc). I then see a mark on my credit report where Comcast turned me over to collections. Collections is requiring $786 for early termination???? After speaking with Comcast, who showed zero interest in assisting me until I escalated the situation, I was able to get nowhere. They told me that I was bound by a contract. What contract were you bound by Comcast? My service was spotty at best and you failed to hold up to your customer guarantee. I never required or requested compensation for the unstable network or slower than promised speeds. In short, as a Comcast customer, all obligations and commitment are on your end. Do not do business with these guys unless you want a similar experience!

Comcast Customer Guarantee; respect your time, Simplify your experience, Make things right if we fall short

Not much of a guarantee if you do not stand by it!!!

We had the system installed about 6-9 months ago. It worked for 2 months then the misery started. Door and window sensors quit communicating with the control pads, couldn’t arm the system with the problem, control pad went bad, motum went bad, security cameras went bad and no longer transmitted pictures. Each call with Customer Care was a 30-45 minute run around. Each service guy who arrived to fix created a worse mess. Customer Care continued to tell us when they diagnosed it from afar all was in perfect working condition, when we were seeing the system control pad communicating a failure of system and having no camera reception pictures. In total, days were spent with customer care and installation guys. Today, after 3 days of calls, 2 days of in home service guys, Internet, modem, cameras and front door sensor STILL NOT WORKING. insult to injury, the service guy that was supposed to show up today never came. Customer Care is now telling my husband to get on a ladder and move the front door sensor to see it that fixes the problem. Take my advice- DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY ON X-Finity/ Comcast SECURITY SYSTEM. Also, don’t be a victim of believing the x-finity commercials that say they are focused on Customer Care, they run you around, don’t fix the problem, transfer your calls around and their service guys are notorious for not showing up.

The home security system is easily hacked. If you have an X that has your social number consider it useless. Video and activity was deleted as I was watching the tape of a break in. The agents have been unable to help, there is no cloud storage back up as with other systems, no way to monitor log in activity. Very angry as I am being repeatedly broken into and the system continues to fail me. I am going to try to get out of this contract. Most unhappy.

I work in IT. I have to have complete top-down, bottom-up control of my home network. It is my tiny domain of the internet and within it I am King and despot. Not so with Xfinity Home. No, with Xfinity Home you can’t use your own router. No, your router has to be put into bridge mode, which means it might as well not exist. All wifi capability is turned off. No, you HAVE to use a badgeless, nameless wifi router of questionable quality rather than the 300 dollar Ferrari of the router world you recently bought that does doughnuts around those (also nameless) Arris abominations that that Xfinity tries stuffing down your throat. So you’re stuck using a possibly unreliable router to not only surf the net and stream movies, but also to protect your home. Other security systems use a base station connected to your router which uses one of the many IoT protocols to communicate with the other security devices throughout the house. That’s a much better, safer system to install. This is like trying to send man to the Moon on a crop duster. And that’s before even pointing out that Xfinity will eventually inexplicably raise your rates.

Comcast techs are not equipped to accomplish what the jobs entails. When a tech talks to Comcast to set another appointment, (for the right type of tech to do the job) the exact requirements don’t get passed. Four techs in two months – only one was effective – others were a waste of time. When we bundled phone, computer, tv and security system, we were told a security system takeover was no problem, but one tech said it was not possible to take over motion sensors. That tech indicated that (Comcast) sensors could be installed at no cost to us. Another tech showed up next day and did not have sensors. Said he was not an “alarm” guy. When he called Comcast to reschedule, the “agent” on the phone tried to charge us $10 per sensor. Again – inconsistency and bumbling. NO – I would not recommend Comcast to my worst enemy.

No XFinity service install is not professional, I had to cancel an installation because the service person did not know his job order or have or bring all of the security equipment on the order sheet that was to be installed. Made a second appointment to have the security installed and they never showed up. Really bad customer service. Looking at other options. You would think for the cost which is high they could get it right.

    Happy Customer.

Own xfinity home for 5 months. Ours is existing system taking over to Xfinity. So no wireless devices (like sensors/motion).

First week – we did get false alarm as Xfinity home updating firmware while armed caused false alarm.

Otherwise no issues. Works great compare to previous alarm system.
