The Good

  • Enhanced Professional Monitoring
  • Alarm Mode Options
  • Xfinity Home Mobile App

Enhanced Professional Monitoring

Xfinity Home security systems offer around-the-clock professional monitoring. This specific type of security monitoring allows customers to get notifications anytime.

Alarm Mode Options

Customers can get a few different home automation Xfinity alarm modes with their home security system: Arm away, Arm stay, and Arm night.

  • Arm away alarm mode allows the customer to enable their home motion sensor when they are in the process of leaving their home.
  • Arm stay alarm mode allows the customer to arm their home security system while they are in their home. This system ensures that customers can move freely throughout their home while the system is armed.
  • Arm night alarm mode allows customers to get alerts if their perimeters are breached while the motion sensor for their home is disabled.

Xfinity Home Mobile App

Xfinity offers customers an app that allows customers to receive real-time alert notifications on their devices and allows them to control their home from wherever they are. Customers can control their thermostat, their lights, and more. The app also gives customers live video monitoring of their home at no extra cost. Customers do need to purchase xfinity security cameras, however, in order to obtain live video monitoring. Those who choose to purchase the live video package will get the indoor outdoor camera. Xfinity Home offers a camera with recording package as well that customers can choose.

The Bad

  • Two-Year Contract & Fluctuating Prices
  • Additional Xfinity Services Required
  • Core Customer Service Complaints

Two-Year Contract & Fluctuating Prices

Xfinity Home security requires a two-year contract at minimum. This is very similar to other service providers in the market but with one major difference. Xfinity contractually reserves the right to increase customers’ monthly monitoring fees after the first year of service. And they are known for doing so often.

Additional Xfinity Services Required

In order to get access to Xfinity Home Security, customers have to first utilize other Xfinity services. For the most basic home security package, customers are required to have their high-speed internet service. For the more comprehensive home security package, customers are required to have one of their “home packages” which includes a bundle of both internet and TV services. Because of these requirements, it creates a situation where customers are paying much more each month then they may have originally planned just to get access to Xfinity home automation.

Core Xfinity Customer Service Complaints

Former and current Xfinity customers on the home security side have complained of problems with delays of service, billing issues resulting in extra fees, and poor Xfinity customer service over the phone. A majority of the consumer reviews we have received regarding Xfinity have been negative experiences with the home security service.

The Bottom Line

As a home automation provider, Xfinity security does not compete with other companies. For starters, there have been several negative Xfinity home security reviews and Xfinity does require customers to sign a two-year contract, and tends to fluctuate with prices. Additionally, customers must obtain extra services in order to get access to xfinity home security systems.

We recommend reading Xfinity Home reviews and looking at a more cost-effective solution that gives you an equal amount of home security technology but at much better pricing and with much better levels of customer service. Companies such as Frontpoint Security and Protect America.

The system can’t even tell me what sensor is having problems unless I call in…in which case you don’t get a human but a robot menu that is excruciatingly painful to get to a human (scream “agent” as loud a you can). Then there’s the fun part of their modem/router not liking your own routers and network … WHHHAAATTTT?? Like be prepared to reboot OFTEN. Bad mistake and I’m a quad-play customer.

Ive been a comcast customer for years now, this has been my experience, the motion sensors are very low quality and half your house will get taken out by the time the sensor cathces them. (my sister has xfinity home, says her’s are the same way) and this time around i moved out of state and they had to reconnect my services back up since they couldn’t tranfer them. i receive my first bill and call them why its so high ($236) i spent half the day calling.
the first tech said sure ill change u back to the same “bundle” u had and when she switched me over to HOME so they could do that for me since they are different departments the home customer service agent was so rude and said she doesnt know why i was given such quotes that they arent available and that there was nothing she can do. i told her i was very dissapointed with paying more and wanted her to quote me other options, she said im sorry i cant help change your bill or bundle thats the best we can do
    ($157 monthly).
so i called again hoping to get a different rep and that day i spoke to 5 reps, two of them hung up of me and the 3rd one was kind enought to call me back. like on purpose bcuz i said to the previous 2 to connect me to the department i wanted to disconnect it for good. they offered 3 months free at the end but i said no bcuz id save 90 bucks and be back with such ghetto customer service. the reps in the home department are really rude. ive never had false alarms but the touch screen constantly looses connection and just rebooting it doesnt work i have to call the tech people to do it themselves, once had the guy come out and fix it bcuz it constantly kept disconnecting. im glad im done with them. all the reps have different stories different prices and info.
But if you are reading this after June 2016, and having them charge you for early terminiation of the security, supposedly you can cancel the 2 yr home agreement as long as u have the internet or another service with them, the rep said they spent alot of money getting that to their customers.. but then again, maybe another rep will tell you something different

    equipment – bad/ low quality/ malfunctioning
customer service – worst i’ve ever had
glad im done callig them at least for today

Worst experience with a company I’ve had. They practiced the usual sign up at a low cost then it raises sharply. My fault for not researching further because of course they’re not going to be upfront about it. I had to move out of state and the cancellation process has been a nightmare. Hours spent in the phone and each time getting a differe story. It stinks to feel so helpless and have no idea how to do anything about it. I was just told they would only charge me $200 because they care and not the $600 it should be? I am so confused at this point about how the fee goes up and down depending on who I talk to. Bottom line; read the contract closely. If something happens in your life and you have to move to wear it cannot be transferred, you will be out a lot of time and money

Horrible. The system is supposed to be fine for dogs under 80 lbs. We had this system installed less than 24 hours ago and have had more than 10 false alarms since then. Our dogs are 12 and 25 pounds. The 1 800 Xfinity number is not working and it took me 2 hours to just get in touch with a customer service representative- and that was only after the alarm company supervisor transferred me directly.

They don’t tell you about services fee’s when a technician comes out. My alarm has lost internet connectivity several times, and the camera does the same thing. The cable is ok, but the alarm connectivity sucks!

As a long time Comcast customer, I was impressed with the promotion of their home security system. We had an existing system that worked fine, but did not have video monitoring. I switched to Xfinity. In the past year plus, the system has been plagued by multiple false alarms. Numerous techs and a supervisor have not fixed the problem. I am now a pariah in our neighborhood with false alarms waking people in a three block area. Finally I requested that they remove their system and return my old system. They can do that but I must pay the early disconnect fee of $400 – 500, because we have a contract. Apparently the contract excludes their side which should guarantee a working system on their part.

Xfinity is complete crap! They told me I had a 36mth contract with them while I had their bundle for internet, cable and phone and this was separate. It malfunctioned exactly 35 days after installation and no monitoring for 5 days. Customer service was unaware and nobody knew how to fix the problem They refused to let me out of the contract past 30 days. I threatened to cut off the bundle ($200+ worth of service) if they kept me on the monitoring and they didn’t care, even after I did. I realize their company has no idea what their right and left hands are up to. I reported them multiple times to the BBB and corporate heads just kept thinking about contract and not about the dissatisfaction or that my home was left vulnerable for days. We went back and forth for weeks at the BBB until the case closed out of my frustration. The BBB is not rally any help in these matter I found they just facilitate and back and forth conversation between you and the corporation which goes on until you give up. During the whole time coming up to 36months I am having all kinds of false alarm (motion and doors both) system offline, and every craziness that I just gave up talking to them.

Horrid customer service and inept technical support. The battery on my thermometer needed changing, but after changing, resetting, rebooting, etc. The monitor still shows that the battery is low (and chirps as if a door is opening which makes my dogs – and everyone – crazy). They could not fix over the phone – tried troubleshooting to no avail – but still want to charge me for a service call to “change the batteries”! Even worse, they no longer sell or provide glass break sensors; they assured me that my pets, which weigh under 40lbs, would not set off motion sensors (they claim are good to 80lbs), but they do trigger the alarms, so I need to set my security system to “Stay” deactivating motion sensors. With no glass break sensors, my home is not secure! They will offer NO advice or support on where/how to purchase/install third-party sensors. Even WORSE, they will be disconnecting and no longer provide carbon monoxide sensors! When questioned, they “customer solutions” department actually asked me if these were so important to me, “Why did I not purchase them when I had the system installed”! Wow, such impertinence. Maybe my house got bigger? Finished our basement? Got two puppies? Now have a baby? (Answer is all four) Worst company on the planet. Will not release me from contract. Will now have to sue. Hopefully find attorney that will get class-action certified. I’m on a mission. I will take them down. Most dishonest company I have ever dealt with. The above only pertains to Home Security. Don’t get me started with the Internet and TV.

I have had the system for 8 months now and it is great. Easy to turn on and off and I have only had one false alarm, which was actually not false, my landlord came into the house. Camera connects quickly from any device. I can monitor my house from anywhere.

Horrible service, alarm keep going off every time you step in the door. Keep getting false alarm, police came to the house and gave me a warning for false alarm and they will fine me if that ever go off false alarm again. Do not use Xfinity home or you will be disappointed.

The system works fine. I’ve had it for almost two years now. Some of posts indicated problems but I’ve had very few. My O2 sensor was recalled and they sent me plenty to purchase another. The water sensor can’t be over riden with the touchpad. So if you have a water problem you need to deal with it immediately to stop that alarm. (That’s not necessarily a bad thing). I’ve added cameras and other components. The overall value is good. They now have the ability to utilize the camera’s motion sensor and will capture video events without having an intrusion. My only question is if I move where they don’t provide service, can I use the equipment with another service or self monitor.

Would not recommend this at all. Equipment never properly worked. The technicians never fixed the problem with the door sensors whenever they came out. I eventually stopped arming the system and finally just unplugged it. I couldn’t cancel it because of the contract. It has cameras, but they only record if the alarm has gone off. It’s just a pointless system. Total waste of money.
