1. Strangers
Don't open the door to strangers.

Install a peephole in your front door to allow outside visibility to the inside.
3. Posers
Beware of people dressed in uniform or pretending to be someone they're not. Ask for proper identification and always check that identification.
4. Make a call
Call the person's supervisor to verify their identity.
5. Distress
If someone is in distress let them know you'll call the police for them.
6. Don't call the police
In some high crime areas it may take longer for the police to respond than the fire department.
7. Mobile phones
Keep a mobile phone in your bedroom. Burglars often remove home phone receivers from the 1st floors of homes.
8. Alarm systems
Equip yourself with a quality home security system.
9. Get armed
Get a taser or firearm to protect yourself. Remember to take any courses and classes associated with the personal firearm.
10. Locks
Install high quality locks in your home.
