ADT is one of the oldest home security companies in the world, with over one century under its belt. With that much experience, ADT-Monitored Security is bound to know what it’s talking about with securing your home. OR do they really know? While one of the largest home security companies in the nation, many consumers of late have not been expressing fond interest in the company’s services. Hopefully, our quick Good & Bad breakdown will help give you an idea about what to expect with ADT-Monitored Security.

The Good

New customers of ADT-Monitored Security can get started for just $28.99 per month with its Traditional package which is slightly lower than a majority of security companies out there. This plan comes with limited features but all plans come with a 6-month money back guarantee. If during this time, you are at all dissatisfied with the service that ADT-Monitored Security provides, they will refund you the installation charge and any monitoring fees you’ve accrued.

ADT-Monitored Security video plan comes with free installation, and a Nest Learning Thermostat which is just one of the perks of paying $49.99 per month for this plan. Not only that, but this plan includes home automation features that let you control door locks, lighting, your thermostat, and your garage, remotely from the ADT-Monitored Security Pulse app.

The Bad

Customers that are new to ADT-Monitored Security service will be able to take advantage of its lowest monitoring plan (Traditional) at $28.99 per month, however, this plan does not come with free installation or the extended limited warranty. You will be required to sign a 36-month contract (24-month if you are a resident of California) which is unfortunate if you become dissatisfied with ADT-Monitored Security service after the 6-month money back guarantee.

Users of our site have had quite a bit to say about ADT-Monitored Security and the service it provides. Several reviews proclaimed problems with ADT-Monitored Security reps not showing up to appointments they scheduled, not to mention the hours that some customers have been put on hold for. Other customers of ADT-Monitored Security have mentioned that they were charged high cancellation fees as well as expensive rates for service visits.

The Bottom Line

ADT-Monitored Security offers great introductory packages to help you get started with securing your home. The Video package is a little more expensive than the Traditional but it comes with free installation, tons of home automation features, and a 6-month money back guarantee. However, if you decide to go with ADT-Monitored Security, you must sign a 36-month contract, and you run the risk of dealing with its poor customer service, high cancellation fees, and costly service visits.

We do not recommend ADT-Monitored Security to be your home security provider. There are many other companies out there that offer better customer service and that are more affordable. Companies like Frontpoint Security, Protect America, and SimpliSafe.

    I paid $600 for the hardware and a week later in the mail got a coupon for $500 which ADT would not honor. I have paid them $41.99 for 5.5 years and then they lowered the rate to $29.99 but never informed me. The ADT has a cell tower to connect to them and yet the ADT installers demanded that I had to use a landline. There is cell phone energy/access in my home but evidently ADT goes with the cheaper cell service. It costs me an additional $25/month so they can save some money on their end. I have paid them literally thousands of dollars and then they have the audacity to demand that when I cancel their service they demand an additional month payment. I do not want their service any more and yet they demand to charge me for service I refuse to use. I will be sending the BBB a complaint…..and why isn’t this company’s headquarters located in the US rather than S. Africa.

    BE AWARE—-I’ve been an ADT customer for over 10 yrs. I just up graded to the pulse systems with wireless cameras. This system has a major flaw. My car was vandalized in my driveway. When I went to show the video to the police. I learned that the camera only records for 30 seconds….then TAKE 4 MINS TO RESET BEFORE IT RECORDS AGAIN….. so all I had was the back of someones head. They left that info about the 4 MINUTE DELAY…out of the sales pitch. Very disappointed. I was surprised to hear from ADT customer service “who had no idea about their systems” that for another $900 they can get me the system I thought I had brought.

    The 6 month warranty is garbage. I keep getting false alarms while I’m away or at work. The police have been called my my residence multiple times for these false alarms bc I was at work and could not get to my phone. Called and had people come out to fix my system and I still get the false alarms!!! The price is steep! I was paying 48.00 and mysteriously went up to 52.99, I guess that’s more of the fine print that the price can go up. The contact is 3 years with an early cancellation fee!! I’m 2 years in and tired of this system and want out!!

    Rates keep going up, and since we use automatic bill pay from our bank we were paying the original amount and had apparently owed. Their customer service calls came at the WORST times (dinner time, kids bed time, school bus time) and when I would rush to the phone to answer I would be greeted with a recording asking me to “Please hold for the next available representative”. Very unprofessional and off-putting. My time is no less valuable than your customer service team. Couple this with the overpriced services and they have lost my business.

    The morning of 3/15 i noticed my ADT app and camera were not working, later after I had gotten home from work I called ADT customer service. After spending 55 minutes troubleshooting with customer service they decided to send a tech out to fix. 3 minutes after i hung up the phone someone kicked in my front door. Yes they did call me and call the police but the camera was no working and I was unable to see what was going on through my phone. The camera would have gotten a video of the criminal. I called ADT and told them what happened they expedited someone to come out and fix the issue. The tech came on 3/16 and after about two hours was unable to fix the issue. I have it on recording where the tech admitted the hardware had failed. It has only been 15 months and the hardware failed. I had to take off today 3/20 for the tech to come back out and fix it, the tech was able to fix it but now my key fob does not work and they have to send a tech out again and i have to take another day off from work. I called the company multiple times and complained that their equipment failed me when i needed them and i wanted to cancel my contract, they told me i would have to pay all termination fees. I should not have to pay fees because they did not hold up their end of the contract i pay extra for the app and camera and it failed me. I do not want money or anything i just want out of my contract.

    I met with an agent and explained what I wanted to him. This was far from what I received. I paid $800 in installation fees to have a gentleman set up things that my 10 year old could have done. When mounting cameras he drilled through the exterior wall in both my bedroom and my garage to use an outlet. Not kidding. I was horrified when I saw this. I was also expecting a mounted control panel. What I got was the control center left on my kitchen counter where my children could play with the buttons. The cameras barely work, most of the time they are offline. We never got alerts if one of our sensors tripped and I have had a “fault” on one of my windows for months. I cancelled after one year and I now have to pay over $1000 or 75% of the balance for the remainder of my contract. I went with ADT because they were well known. Now I wish I went with the smaller guys in my area.

    They fooled me by signing a two year agreement after signing one year prior because I wanted cameras in the front and back of my door entrances . When the two year agreement expired from the original contract I terminated adt because I wasn’t happy with their services . They made me pay $750 for a new contract I never knew about for some stupid cameras that never worked . I payed outright for the cameras and the installation and a additional $10 a month for having these cheap cameras on top of their bill . When I called what’s this $750 , they said it was an early termination fee that no one told me about because I should of just stayed until it was over . Their response was we are going to send a collection agency after you if you don’t pay up . The only people that robbed me was adt . They insult people’s intelligence by using scare tactics of having people being robbed on their cheesey commercials . The only people that robbed me was adt . Stay far away from these crooks .

    I have been with ADT for over two years. I have been having issues with the system because it sometimes will not accept my code to deactivate it and it goes off. Once it goes of it takes between 5-10 minutes for us to shut it up. Last time I had to ask my daughter to take the dog outside because the poor thing was going crazy and crying with the horrible noise.
    The customer service has been TERRIBLE. They have not done a thing to fix this problem and if I call they won’t help me because I forgot my security code to talk to them. The only thing they can do, as they say, is mail my my security code, which they supposedly have done twice, but I have not gotten it. So, they won’t take my calls, but they have been charging my credit card every month for a service that is not working. Today they finally said they could send a technician to solve the problem but I had to pay for it. HELL NO! this is not my problem! DON’T hire them. Worse company ever!

    Worst experience ever. Unreliable and irresponsible service. Even for urgent matters you have to wait on line for at least 30 minutes. And because ADT Canada was not able to pick up my phone call within a few minutes as stated clearly to me the police was dispatched. When you tried to explain no one at ADT cares to take any responsibility. I have been with ADT for almost 10 years and they will not consider your loyalty if something goes wrong. I decided to leave this company. Even your alarm goes off now you will be asked to press 1 then 2 then ……. and wait forever. Think twice if you want professional and timely service.

    The service is horrendous! For any action completed against your account, no email is generated and THEY WILL NOT create an email for documentation purposes!!! They will provide only a verbal confirmation number that means absolutely nothing outside the call you are currently on. Had service for over 36 months; however, as a renter, it was not in the same location. When we attempted to cancel we were advised we would be paying over $900 in fees for a service no longer rendered. When you ask to speak to a manager or supervisor it is a waste of time as all they say is that is policy and too bad, you signed a contract. Will NEVER recommend them or use them. Wish I was never scammed into believing I “needed” them. A hassle from day 1

    ADT did not cancel our service as requested when we moved. We were still being billed for services despite the cancellation. Afterwards they make it a hassle to get re-imbursed for a mistake they have made. I would not recommend ADT for service in the future.

    We had ADT for over four years as our alarm monitoring company. Luckily, we never had an issue relating to break-in. I do use the word luckily with an emphasis.
    On one occasion, I accidentally tripped the alarm by entering the place without keying in my code. The obvious siren went off and managed to mute it. No calls from ADT so I figured may because I managed to shut it off quickly, ADT did not contact. Months later, the same happened, except I purposely did not shut off the alarm and waited for several minutes. Guess what? No calls from ADT and no police.
    Upon calling to see why they didn’t contact me, to my astonishment they did have my system turned not on their end!!!!! FOUR YEARS OF PAYING THEM $56.00 plus a month down the tube. No matter how hard I tried to tell them they owe us OUR money back, they refused to give back to us. I spent a long time battling this crooked company for our money and they refuse to reimburse us. This company should be investigated! SAVE YOUR MONEY, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY DON’T PLAY RUSSIAN ROULETTE WITH THE SAFETY OF YOUR FAMILY by hiring ADT.

    I have been with ADT for eleven years. Recently I upgraded my system that is when the nightmare began. First, I asked ADT for a letter stating that I’ve had their service for eleven years. Something that I needed for my home owners insurance company. They said that they could only provide a letter stating the new upgrade date of one month. Next, they overdrew my checking account by charging me a quarterly fee on top of my monthly monitoring fee. Oh, I didn’t know about this fee and didn’t authorize it. I’ve spoken to them four times and was told each time that the I would receive a refund to my checking account. It’s been one week and my account has received overdraft charges.Each time I was told something different. I just want my money refunded. I trusted ADT with my security and my checking information. What a disappointment!

    They will leave your old system unhooked and extort money from you if you let them into your home. Do not ever let them hook anything up to your old system as they will triple their quoted price and then try to leave you with a disabled system if you do not agree to their “new” price!!!

    Was told I had an 8AM appointment for service. At 8:10 the next day, I called and was told the time was between 8AM and 12PM and a service man would be here at 9:55AM. Explained that this is not what I was told and wanted someone here sooner. They reported they talked with the service man and he would be here earlier. It is now 10:16AM and no service man. ADT must think they are the only home security company there is. I am going to find another home security company that is more customer friendly.
