ADT is one of the oldest home security companies in the world, with over one century under its belt. With that much experience, ADT-Monitored Security is bound to know what it’s talking about with securing your home. OR do they really know? While one of the largest home security companies in the nation, many consumers of late have not been expressing fond interest in the company’s services. Hopefully, our quick Good & Bad breakdown will help give you an idea about what to expect with ADT-Monitored Security.

The Good

New customers of ADT-Monitored Security can get started for just $28.99 per month with its Traditional package which is slightly lower than a majority of security companies out there. This plan comes with limited features but all plans come with a 6-month money back guarantee. If during this time, you are at all dissatisfied with the service that ADT-Monitored Security provides, they will refund you the installation charge and any monitoring fees you’ve accrued.

ADT-Monitored Security video plan comes with free installation, and a Nest Learning Thermostat which is just one of the perks of paying $49.99 per month for this plan. Not only that, but this plan includes home automation features that let you control door locks, lighting, your thermostat, and your garage, remotely from the ADT-Monitored Security Pulse app.

The Bad

Customers that are new to ADT-Monitored Security service will be able to take advantage of its lowest monitoring plan (Traditional) at $28.99 per month, however, this plan does not come with free installation or the extended limited warranty. You will be required to sign a 36-month contract (24-month if you are a resident of California) which is unfortunate if you become dissatisfied with ADT-Monitored Security service after the 6-month money back guarantee.

Users of our site have had quite a bit to say about ADT-Monitored Security and the service it provides. Several reviews proclaimed problems with ADT-Monitored Security reps not showing up to appointments they scheduled, not to mention the hours that some customers have been put on hold for. Other customers of ADT-Monitored Security have mentioned that they were charged high cancellation fees as well as expensive rates for service visits.

The Bottom Line

ADT-Monitored Security offers great introductory packages to help you get started with securing your home. The Video package is a little more expensive than the Traditional but it comes with free installation, tons of home automation features, and a 6-month money back guarantee. However, if you decide to go with ADT-Monitored Security, you must sign a 36-month contract, and you run the risk of dealing with its poor customer service, high cancellation fees, and costly service visits.

We do not recommend ADT-Monitored Security to be your home security provider. There are many other companies out there that offer better customer service and that are more affordable. Companies like Frontpoint Security, Protect America, and SimpliSafe.

    I have personally had my ADT system for 34 months of my 36 month contract and have had nothing but problems with the company since I signed the contract. Not enough space to list all the issues bit I would PERSONALLY never recommend their service or products to anyone. You will be highly dissatisfied with their service guarenteed. There are too many other cheaper and more reliable options out there. I would suggest to any homeowners thinking about purchasing their product to take a little time to explore their options.

    I have never dealt with a more unprofessional company and made a big mistake of changing from Monitronics, my former security company of 10 years, to get a better monthly fee with ADT. The ADT salesperson told me I would pay $27.99 for the life of the contract and have an upgraded system from my prior Monitronics system. Upon arrival they immediately put up a keyboard that did not have 2-way conversation feature and was much lower end than the keyboard I had for 10 years. They also told me it would cost me $700+ to have my windows secured with sensors and I was forced to keep my old sensors from the prior company. I also didn’t realize I was dealing with a Third party agent called Defenders instead of ADT and everything they told me about the way the system is monitored turned out to be false.

    I should have cancelled during my 3-day window but was too busy with work to deal with it. I had a manager at ADT attempting to get me the 2-way monitor to no avail. I then was charged double of what was promised and stated in my contract ($52.99) instead of $27.99 and had to make 5 phone calls getting the run around between ADT and Defender, a company I never knew was part of the contract.

    This company is a scam and takes advantage of new customers. I have been in sales for 30 years and have never seen such dishonest sales people and “do nothing managers” who are incapable of fixing problems. I wish I never switched companies to save a few dollars. This company has got to be under investigation by Better Business Bureau. If my money is not refunded for the monthly charge, I will simply block future payments on my credit card and tear up their worthless contract. Do NOT DO BUSINESS WITH ADT.

    ADT provides fine home security service. My beef is with their customer service. I tried to find out the cost for upgrading to the CellGuard system from my current system. After 20 minutes on the phone with two different customer service reps, I still had no answer. The first customer service rep game me totally inaccurate information and only after I asked her to check with her supervisor (since I couldn’t believe what she was telling me was correct) did she come back and indicate that the information she gave me was entirely wrong. The second person was only interested in upselling me and could not get the question of cost even though I explained why I did not want to CellGuard Plus for entirely technical reasons. It was total frustration.

    We moved into a home 7 months ago with an ADT box on the wall. Recently ADT customer service called to ask if we want to subscribe to the service. Being an elderly couple on a fixed income we were forced to decline.

    A few days later (today) our alarm system started going off erratically. We called and asked to have it turned off and/or removed. We were told that it would cost us a hundred dollars.

    We will probably have no choice but to capitulate and pay. But this is clearly blackmail at the worst and terrible customer service at best. Surely there are companies to deal with that have more integrity.

    A horrendous company. ADT advertises 49.00 installation plus 27.00 a month monitoring. When the technician showed up- he first began installing the equipment and after installed then informed me that the price was close to $5000. He did not give me upfront pricing and I was operating under the belief that the price would be 49.00. Next he said that the monthly monitoring would be with tax $58 and change a month. No mention was made of the fact that you only have three days to cancel. In the brochure it alludes to a 90 day welcome period or words to that effect. The print size on the contract is extremely small. Additionally, terrible customer service in attempting to find the answers and cancel the service. Nobody seems to know what the other person is doing and you get shifted around to different people and then told that to cancel with a little over a weeks’ use it would cost $1,406.76, and by the way they already had over $1,050 as part of the so called “

    There was no reaction from the company to the fact that a sensor was broken and to their knowledge, one of the windows would have been broken/defect. When I called to cancel their services, they asked why I didn’t call them to let them know!!! really?
    They have a clause in their contract that the account stays active another 30 days until cancellation is effective. This is a ripoff and should be against the law!

    one of the worse customer service ever. ADT corporate is in competition with his contractors and that is not showing well in front of customers that eventually choose always to go to Xfinity home. It happened to me where Corporate ADT was fighting with his contractor over installing security in my home.We cancelled them over Xfinity home and we are very good and quiet now. They are very aggressive when it comes to your money but the service is zero.

    Exceptionally poor customer service. Once they receive your business they appear to be concerned solely about their monthly payments. Been on hold for over 4 hours with no response for service. In addition have attempted to contact by email, again no response.

    I’ve only been with ADT for11 months and have been calling monthly on the charge of my bill for 5 months now! One of ADT’s representatives went as far to say there were no notes in my account about the price change, basically calling me a LIAR! All 4 other representatives saw ALL of the Notes in my account that were made since July. It is now November and (fingers crossed) my bill might MIGHT be taken care of properly! I asked to speak with someone about canceling my account because of the runaround and HORRIBLE customer service I was receiving. However because the 36 month BS contract I was in I was stuck…or would have to pay OVER $1000 to cancel!!! I have worked in retail and customer service jobs for many years of my life and I have never EVER treated anybody like this NOR have I never been treated like this until ADT! This is the worst company I’ve ever dealt any sort of business with and as my suggestion: DO NOT GET A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM WITH ADT!!! I went through SAFE STREETS, USA for my contract and THEY also have treated me horrible too!

    I was an ADT customer for 7 years. I did an upgrade with a garage door opener and indoor cameras. I was not made aware that this constituted a new contract fir 36 months. I sold the house last month and left the system for the new owner. When I called to cancel the service the agent made did not mention any termination fee at all. I received a bill for $262.16. I called and had to speak with 6 different representatives and managers who were condescending, rude and nasty. Great way to treat a 24 year customer. The refuse to do anything at all even though they did not inform me at the time of my cancellation. I sold my home and I am being penalized. Great way to do business. I will not be using ADT in my new home.

    I was visited today by AdT technician , The first thing he did was he installed a monitor on the wall before we signed the contract. After we saw the contract we didn’t agree on it, so he pulled the monitor from the wall leaving two bigholes in it. After he did that he didn’t even apologize and said “it’s easy to patch it.”

    Shady business. I was a customer for 7 years. I called them up to cancel the service due to lack of funds. After speaking with a rep for 10 minutes we came to an agreement of 9$ for 3 months after which it would continue as usual to give me some time to reestablish finances and at the same time continue the service and continue paying them. They then continued to bill me the same full price and pretended we never spoke. The service was OK I guess, it was never needed the whole time I was with them, but the fact they just lied and kept billing me full price is enough for a 0. Will never deal with them again.

    Worst customer service ever. Don’t waste your time.. 25 minute hold then Twp hangs up on me. Product is terrible customer service is even worse malfunctioning products constantly!!!!! Was a good system maybe ten years ago now it’s outdated and outclassed by just about any other option. This review is just top of iceberg anyone need info feel free to reach me.

    I ordered the 27.99 service after being reassured that we are eligible since we have cox internet even though we do not have a live phone line.
    When technicians came in they went ahead and installed the main unit, without confirming our eligibility with the purchased order.

    After the installation (lots of drilling) I was told that we were only quantified for the 52.99 one, due to that fact that we do not have an active phone service.
    We could not agree, so technicians removed the wall mounted unit and left us with 12 big holes and one big hole on our interior wall.

    Now we are waiting for ADT to take care of this.

    P.S. We were promised with 15 free wireless sensors over the phone but was later told only free if we have presired sensors in place. It seems that the custome service was INTENTIONALLY obscuring the facts to make us into a haste division.
    Technicians also attempted to sell us over $4000 of sensors, which we declined.

    My first experience with ADT, the so called #1 in the US, was a disaster. The customer service team lack the product knowledge and they make it very obvious that they are under pressure to sell and very dissatisfied with their management. Inadequate information about the product, lack of knowledge about their own promotions. This review is not based on any single interaction, it is based on 5 different interactions and the only consistent aspect is ‘terrible customer experience’. One time I opted for the service after doing my own research and I called them to follow up on an email they were to send me and ended up cancelling the service even before I began, thanks to the poor service. With bestbuy insisting, I did give ADT a second chance and nothing changed, the sales team, the customer service team, the supervisors, all need to be changed. Very Poor service and lack of product knowledge and they get frustrated with questions. Thanks ADT for showing your real self upfront before I got locked into a contract.

    I have been trying to cancel service for my deceased sister for 8 months. They keep on sending a bill. I have contacted them 5 times, sent documents to no avail. Either they think they will get payed because the customer just gave up or they are totally clueless. It’s not polite to say that as a business they totally suck, so I won’t.
