  • High monthly monitoring fees: Standard monitoring plans for new customers range from $36.99 to $52.99 per month. This is a bit higher than other leading industry providers. Specifically, their lowest plan is considerably higher than other industry leading providers and their respective lower plans.
  • A long, 36-Month contract: ADT provides the installation and equipment free of charge, but with one major caveat. You’re basically signing a 3 year (36-month) contract. Also it’s important to note that these contracts aren’t too forgiving. Customers are expected to pay what they owe on the contract in the event that they try to cancel early.
  • Video surveillance option: ADT has a video plan option where for $49.99/month, you get the standard home security package along with a camera that includes video surveillance features that you can monitor through the ADT mobile app. Most home security service providers still do not offer video surveillance as a service. So if this is an important feature to you, you’ll want to consider ADT.
  • Customer service complaints: Common complaints of ADT customers include sales and installation reps failing to show up to scheduled appointments, long wait times, and high cancellation fees. We have received over 1,500 negative reviews here on this website regarding ADT from real customers.

    ADT called me in February to tell me to put new batteries in. I told them that my alam system did not work and that I wanted to cancel the service. They said that if they could troubleshoot it from the telephone, would I keep the system? I said yes, but if they couldn't, I wanted to cancel. They could not troubleshoot it. They continued to bill me, I did not pay, since I had verbally cancelled. Yesterday, October, I got a call from their collection agency, Source Receivables Management. They were very rude. I called ADT today to complain. They have all the record of my calls and that I wanted to cancel, etc., but now they're telling me it had to be done in writing. They didn't tell me that then. They strongarmmed me into paying the money or were going to have it affect my credit. Very deceptive and very rude!!! DO NOT USE THEM!!!!Read More

    Worst service ever. Was told that I would be quoted one thing when I ended up having to spend much more. Have been trying to get reimbursed for over a month now. Also spoke with someone on the phone and I expressed my frustrations and they literally laughed at me. I will never go with this company again. After my contract is up we will be done.Read More

    I had bad experience with ADT, I got quote over the phone and they told me they will give me credit for all equipment and after technician came in my house he want to charge me extra for equipment and he take out my previous security keypad on the wall and he cut wire for my air conditioner after I said no I don’t want work with ADT and he didn’t fix my stuff and he left. I paid $300 to electrician to come and fix those thing he misstep. I never suggest this company to any one .

    The worst company with the customer service. No one appeared to communicate with the other. Various plans, packages, promises and commitments were made with ALL either a lie or said to just keep me interested. With each and every call to an ADT rep. it was one after the other either stating something different then what I was previously told by another rep. This was all coming from what I was told to be managers in their Customer Loyalty Department. Apparently customer loyalty is just a name and not a commitment. I would NOT recommend ADT to even put a new or upgraded system on an outhouse let alone my home again. Buyers beware!!!!

    On March 12, 2019. I contacted ADT to give me a quote for the home security, I spoke to a guy named Steve who later forwarded my call to a lady (can’t recollect her name). The lady told me that they can quote me a better than online rate and also give a $99 visa card that will take care of installation.
    She told me for that they just need basic details before she can tell me the exact monthly rate. After I gave her my name and address. She mentioned for her to process the rate she will need credit card number. It was already appearing “fishy” but ADT is a well known company (same as one thinks of ATT). So, I told her I do not give that kind of information over the phone. She insisted that they cannot charge until they have security code. Anyways, I hesitatingly gave my credit card information in hope of a good quote and getting one thing checked of my long list of to-do items of the day. Well, she gave me the quote ($37/month for 3 year contract which was same as online) and told me if I would like to set up installation. I refused and assumed that was end of it.
    Next day, I recieved a hard inquiry by DEFENDER SECURITY (for ADT) and a $107 charge on my credit card. When I reached out to ADT customer service again and got hold of another manager (Sherry) she apologized told me she will escalate and remove any charges. Guess what, nothing happened on day 7, and I had to dispute with both the credit agency and credit card company. Complete waste of time and a predatory company ADT.
    Go with local home security service providers. The average rate should not be more than $16/month (with no contract) for a basic security installation. Don’t buy shenanigans of ADT.

    tried for two months to get cancelled spoke with 9 reps over four conversations then told the amount I pay each month could be cut in half if stay..After 17 years with the co. now I get a discount……still did not want to take no for answer and would not take my written notice as cancellation so going to bill for another month…real sham

    THEY ARE TERRIBLE!!! THEY LIE ABOUT EVERYTHING. I tried for 3 months to cancel my account and they kept giving me excuses like, well, we didn’t ask for you password so we can’t cancel without this. WHAT? Then I get another bill and this is when she tells me about the password. So I give them the password and again they assure me I am cancelled. Then I get another bill with a big red line for past due!! I call and she says they can bill me for an extra 30 days after I cancel and since I didn’t give my password the first time they can now bill me for two months. At this point I think I must need to contact an attorney, how do I get rid of them??? I’m at my wits end. I hate them so much. I also have co-workers with some same issues of them lying about the monthly charge, term of contract and impossible to cancel. DON’T USE ADT, THEY ARE SCAMMERS!!

    Adt is nothing but a scam! They tell you that the price is $52 a month but charge $96 a month. I bought a house that already had adt so I switched it over to my name, they didn’t tell me or even show me any paper work saying that I was signing a 3 year contract. So when I go to cancel it now they want over $1000 for abunch of used junk that doesn’t even work properly. So before you sign up for this scam make sure you do your homework. Simplysafe is the way to go. I wish I would have know that before I got scammed into this adt garbage.

    Closed my business in May of 2018, Sent a written letter to cancel to the address the y advised me to sent it to. They are still charging me and it now March of 2019. Spoke tot another rep 2 months ago and she gave me an email address and told me to send her a copy of the letter and explain what has happened as she advised they never recevied the letter. Well, it did not come back to me so whose desk is it sitting on? Guess a letter is the next step.

    ADT is a racket, as is its partner, Safe Streets USA. At installation, the installer / sales person failed to tell me that my monthly service fee was handled by Safe Street USA. I had no idea I my account was basically “sold” to this third party. When I sold my home and moved, leaving behind my security system, I was told I must pay the remainder of a 3-year service contract that, again, the installer / sales person did not disclose. During this discussion with a Safe Street Agent, when I calmly and pleasantly asked for clarification of the cancellation policy, he hung up on me – appalling and very disrespectful and poor customer service. I then paid the remaining balance, over $900, and cancelled my service effective on that date, only to find that I continued to be charged the monthly service fee. When I called to inquire about the continued charge, I was told it takes 30 days for the cancellation to take effect. Once again, I was not told this when I spoke with the agent who accepted my $900+ and notice of cancellation. I highly recommend NOT working with these companies if you value transparency, customer service, and honesty!!!

    I tried faxing the form 25 times. to the fax provided never works, so I mailed in the cancellation notice and they don’t seem to ever get it. I sent proof of all the faxes and it was time stamped as well.
    this is a crazy I was given a sup # her name is Allie they have the call documented but the fax and mail don’t seem to work or get to them. this is a scam to say the least.

    We called to cancel the account they said okay but 1 year later they were still charging us and we did not even live there any longer,when I called they said that no it wasn’t canceled because they need a letter which can be e-mailed, they gave the email address and I emailed a letter and didn’t want to be bothered by the one years payments they stole from us. After the letter was e-mailed years down the road I get a call from collections, apparently they still never canceled it because they needed a pen signature on the letter because otherwise they cannot prove it was the right person!! I mean are you crazy? I have the account number and e-mailed from the e-mail which was under the account and it was signed so I have no idea what they are talking about they just continue to steal money and when you call them out on it they try to make and excuse for what they have done. I also have a business account with them for many many years and after the kind of attitude I got for the manager in Mississauga by the name of Sakeen H I will be canceling the account with them. This is ridiculous and they should be jailed for fraud!! All I asked for them is to remove a $300 outstanding fee and I would call it even but they didn’t do this, even though they took $1000’s from our business account for the house which we had moved out of and tried to cancel more then once!!

    This Company is absolutely awful & unprofessional! I called as a new customer, they took my info, transferred me to another gentleman referred to as a Mgr. & told me it would cost $99 right then before anyone comes out to do a Consultation with us. I declined because another company I had called did not request that. I then received a letter a week later that they did a hard credit check on me, which was never disclosed with me!!

    ADT is a very difficult company to deal with whenyou have system problems. Buyer BEWARE… If the system does not work ( quality cell signal required) they will consistently send out repair techs (5 hour appointment windows of course) that do absolutely nothing but reboot your system so the problem reappears within 1 week. The worst part of the system is the contract. Even if your system does not work, like mine does not work reliably, they still try to charge you 75% of the balance remaining on the contract. WIN WIN for ADT and their agents, LOSE, LOSE for the homeowner.

    The beauty of the system is that ADT does not actually install the system so they rely on 3rd part installers that will do anything to put a system in your house. Beware as the service techs that come install your system are nothing more then used car salesman.

    Moral of the story, perhaps ADT works in the right area but if you live in an area where you consistently have 2 bars of service on your cell phone, RUN away from this system and save yourself the grief that I have went thru.

    I wish I would have consulted reviews before signing up w/ ADT. I hope my review will help someone else from making the same mistake. I unfortunately signed on for the long term contract. Please note they will NOT allow you to cancel for any reason (I have paid for service for half of the contract for service at my parents home. ADT will not allow me to cancel despite the fact that they do not use the service. Highly recommend other more inexpensive and more customer-oriented home security providers.

    Before canceling my service with ADT I called and notified them of the new homeowners taking over my account with them because I didn’t plan to take it with me. The new homeowners ended up having to get a whole new system and I had to pay the remaining amount on the account when I was told once they called to confirm the transfer I wouldn’t have to. Needless to say the transfer didn’t happen. I will not be purchasing ADT in the future.

    The ADT security company is junk they don’t do what they say the ADT installed installed December 2018, we were told that we would get a doorbell camera and two other outdoor cameras but would have to wait a few days for them to come back and install. Well they called today and informed us that we would have to now purchase them and that the cameras are not included after they sold us on this package that included it. So I call customer service and get a company line and ask for a supervisor and the lady refused to transfer me to a supervisor. We canceled the and will never use them again. Shady untrustworthy people wanting you to trust them to protect your home they are junk don’t buy anything from them

    We had ADT for six months. After that the alarm system kept going off. We called and said that our system needed to be serviced but no one would be available in our area. Suggested that we change the batteries and or override that device. Ultimately we were paying them for a system that didn’t work.
    We put the account on hold and then cancelled the services. There is a 30 day charge to cancel the service then you get sent to collections if you don’t pay the charge that we were not even aware of until we called when we received the collection notice a month later.
    ADT Service Reps are exrtelmy rude the miscommunication in the company is embarrassing. We talked to four reps in one day and they all told us something different.
    I suggest looking into another source for home security.

    After doing my research and talking with different security companies, I chose ADT because their products would meet my needs per information given to me by ADT representatives. After installation and signing a contract, I found that the outdoor security camera I had been told would record 24/7 did not do that at all. The camera only records when motion has been detected, and the motion range is approximately 15 feet. That makes the camera worthless for the purpose for which I had it installed. When I called on March 11, 2019, to inform the company and see what they were going to do to remediate the problem, I was transferred from one department to another, finally being told that someone would call me later that same day. No one has called. I have emailed corporate customer relations and am waiting to see if the company responds. In addition to the misinformation I was given about the camera recording 24/7 during the 1 hour I was on the phone and got nowhere, an ADT representative told me that the motion sensor on the Ring Doorbell camera could be adjusted to pick up motion at 30 feet. I had just spoken with Ring the day before, so I knew that was incorrect. Representatives have lied about their products. When I told some of the people with whom I spoke on March 11 about the incorrect information I had been given, I was told that they were “sorry” and that the problem would be addressed with those employees. How does that help me? I am stuck with a camera that does not meet my needs for the 3 years of my contract. If I don’t pay them, that is breach of contract. If they deliver products that do not perform as the customer has been promised, that is not breach of contract???

    Let me start of this post by saying that I am not someone who does this regularly. In fact, I’m the person that gets angry with people who just air grievances online over and over again. I don’t have social media accounts and I keep to myself. I’m not going to yell, scream, or curse. I’m not going to mention anyone by name, but I am going to call out a company for treating loyal customers like trash and being crooks.
    With that being said, I am writing this to put out there the horrible experiences I have had with ADT Home Security. I had ADT installed at my home a week after I purchased it in September 2011. I remained a loyal customer despite price increases and many offers from other company that would save literally hundreds of dollars a year. On top of not being a complainer, I am also not someone who jumps from company to company to just save a buck. The price got so high that I called ADT three separate times requesting they decrease the price for a loyal customer. That of course did not happen.
    My ADT equipment began to breakdown and malfunction which led to many problems including me being woken up several times in the middle of the night. When I spoke to them they encouraged me to change the batteries. That didn’t work. When I called again they offered for a technician to come to my house, at a charge of course, to look at the system and then for me to pay for whatever equipment needed to be replaced. I declined and tried to live with the faulty equipment. Around this time my brother moved into a new home and had such a bad experience with ADT that he switched to a new company after being with ADT for 10+ years (he was the reason I went with them to begin with).
    I decided to look at other options in January 2019. I ended up finding a company for much cheaper. I had to buy all the new equipment up front (I bought all the same parts as I currently had) and would still save over $75 the first year because the monthly fee was so much cheaper. After the first year I would save $350 per year without having any contract. I couldn’t pass those savings up and made the switch.
    When I proceeded to call ADT to cancel my monitoring I became very upset. They argued with me that I couldn’t possibly have the same equipment or services for so much cheaper. When that didn’t work they asked if I had a maintenance program which replaces old or faulty equipment like ADT. I informed them that I didn’t have that with ADT at which time I was informed that I did. I became very upset and asked why I hadn’t been offered that when I had previously called about my equipment and why I was informed I would be charged. I told the person that I felt like they were stealing money from me all those years. They then told me that I had to give a 30 day notice in order to cancel. I argued that indicating that I was no longer on a contract. They insisted I give a 30 day notice and were rude in doing so. I was transferred to someone else for the cancelation. I literally went through the exact same process with them. They offered a discounted price for 6 months, but then nothing after that. I declined and ended the call.
    Two days later I received a call asking why I was switching. After explaining they offered to reduce my rate to match my rate with the other company. I asked if I would get all new equipment too just as I am with the new company. I was informed that I would not. I politely declined, explained my frustration with my call two days earlier, and let them know that I already took down all of my ADT equipment.
    Approximately a week and a half later I was checking my credit card statement and saw that they did charge my credit card for my normal monthly fee even though I had canceled and removed all my equipment. I called ADT and requested to speak with a supervisor. I insisted that they refund my money. I was told that they would not do this. At this point I became very upset, let them know I would be disputing the charge, and “trashing ADT online”. They told me that someone from customer relations would contact me within 24 hours. That was over 144 hours ago.
    I apologize for the long story and my rambling. The bottom line is that ADT is a horrible company. I was a loyal customer for over 7 years. I was taken advantage of, not notified of programs I was paying for, and received no support when I called customer service. They are crooks who take advantage of people. I would NEVER encourage anyone to do business with them. They are just a name from the past. With so many viable options out there nowadays due yourself a favor and stay far away from ADT. I have zero complaints about my new company, my brother had and still has zero complaints about the company we are with, and we encouraged my sister to sign up to. She did and you guessed it, zero complaints. ADT sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    We are so disappointed with our choice on ADT, none of the system is free, l08.00 to install and our package is almost $ 400.00 a month for equipment. They offer a Visa card but do not supply proper work other than by computer so you better own one and own a printer also.
    Yes they maybe one of the best but 36 month contract at 59.99 binding and also a lot of effort to receive the Visa rebate, and you can’t apply that to your bill.
    My first hit on my visa is prorated $ 79.00 for two months and then one almost $ 400.00 for the equipment that was FREE, and also the l08.00 Install fee. so the first month hit is $ 600.00. unreal. We have just had this system a few days but to long to get out of our contract so we will suck it up but probably not recommend them.

    My 3 year contract is up in July….my contract states that it will auto renew on a monthly basis unless I notify them that I am cancelling AT LEAST 30 Days in advance. Call yesterday and was first told that they could only put the cancel in 30 days in advance….then 60 days but no more. If I put the cancellation in now – I would have to pay the early cancellation penalty. I told them I didn’t want to cancel early – that I wanted to cancel at the end of my contract. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told by Dwight that he would get them and that they were on the line. I tried speaking to the supervisor and then was told – “Oh he is on the “other” line”….well I guess I wasn’t speaking to the supervisor. I asked again to speak to a supervisor and file a formal complaint against Dwight for lying. Eventually spoke to a supervisor and was told that I needed to cancel in writing – asked where that was in the contract as Item 1 in the contract stated that I just needed to contact ADT via the phone (and the phone number was listed) at least 30 days before my contract expired. Told them to make the notification of cancellation in my account and make the recording available as I wouldn’t be calling back 30 days before my contract expired. Wish I had never signed up with them.

    By far the worst security company around for your home, they should concentrate on protecting businesses, rude customer service rep (Cedric) I cancelled in 2014 they kept taking money out my account, I simply called to have them stop billing me, did not request a refund and Cedric was so rude and disrespectful, it’s my money I can choose to STOP paying, they suck anyway with their outdated equipment .     If any less stars were available I would have choose less.
    Their equipment is garage it doesn’t work. The door bell camera doesnt ring the actual door bell in the home. The panel doesnt make any noise when you enter to tell you yo turn it off so the kids are constantly setting it off. I have been literally fighting with them to set up a service call and they refuse to call me back. I did an on line service request they came back with an answer saying it’s cold out so electronics dont work in the cold. Its warm now and they still dont work.
    Customer service is even worse then their garbage system if you can even imagine that it is possible to go that low but they have found a way.

    Look out if you choose this ridiculous company to outfit your home

    The billing is too high. Initially they will give all the promises to get it installed after that ADT or the Defender service will not stay on even a single word they gave during the installation. I have had 10 promises that they did not keep after the installation and cancellation.
    1. The monthly bill they said was $36.99 but after the installation they said since I don’t have a landline I will have to pay $52.99 per month.
    2. Before installation, manager, customer rep and the Technician all spoke with me and promised me some extra things but during the installation they said I need to pay for those items.
    3. During the installation again the technician called the manager and made the promise like they will be covering all the damages like holes etc if I cancel the service, but after the cancellation the defender service called me and said they will not be covering them.
    These are some of the false promises they made me and never kept their words. Never ever go with ADT. If at all you go with ADT it is purely your risk.

    My mother purchased ADT and her bill was a lot more than quoted, but that was not as terrible as trying to cancel her service after she died. She passed in October and I sent them her death certificate and went through a lengthy phone conversations answering their service representative questions. Sent them emails and letters with copies of my mother’s death certificates attached for 4 consecutive months with no resolve. I called again and was told I had to contact another company that they are associated wit, so I did and sent them the death certificate. ADT continued to get activate her auto pay on her credit card. Then I cancelled my mother’s credit card, yet ADT persisted and now the mail bills to my mother’s address. I guess I can give bad reviews and do a youtube to warn others. If you are considering the service be prepared for problems.

    This is amazing; you guys don’t want to cancel my service, I am going to the better business bureau, 22 minutes on the phone, to tell me that I need a password that I have not to use in years, you have my address my social security number, my credit card information? Come on this is the worst ever. Not a simple sorry sir! I was transferred 5 times!!! can you believe this. You suck! UPDATE: I just spoke to a supervisor, I said to her you have all of my private information, the bank, the IRS verify my information differently! She responded, ” we are not the bank nor the IRS, wait for the password in the mail”! I will not tell you about the tactics that the salesperson used to get me to sing a contract for that was my fault for not reading the contract. UNETHICAL COMPANY

    They can’t get a repairman out to my home for 5 days guess we don’t have a house alarm which I’ll be paying for while I sit here and wait. wow with a young child in my house and break ins in our neighbourhood just around the corner from us this is unbelievable. I would understand 24 to 48hrs for a repair, but for such a large company they should have tech repair at their disposal. Will be posting negative reviews everwhere I can BBB etc… Is there a class action lawsuit against this company for defrauding their customers out of their money and not providing the services paid for. Will look into it, hope others do too.

    AWFUL DO NOT GET!
    From the beginning they lied about the package I was told I would get my installation fee back it took 3 months to actually get it back and that was only because I had to call and tell them they never gave that back I was charged three different times in one month for service and two other things that they couldn’t even tell me what the charges was for, we recently had to move out of state which we decided to move the service with us come to find out they can’t move our service because THEY don’t serve out of state which does NOT say in contract and they are charging us 1000 plus for termination fees after telling them we are not trying to term we just want to relocate the lady representative said “ well you will have to be forced to early term and pay” I told her that this should have been stated in the contract her response was “ we don’t have to!” So please search for different service like Ring they are much better!

    ADT is the bottom dweller of all security systems. Even where their service is useless like in the country where it would take 45 minutes for any city cop to even get to you. Do you think any robbers are going to wait 45 minutes to start robbing your home? They will have your home cleaned out in minutes. I used to live in the city when I signed up for ADT and had them for 2 yrs. I had to move beyond my control and had a year left on my contract. They absolutely will not let you out of your contract under any circumstances. Any good reputable security company would understand, but that is the reason THIS company gets the bad reviews it gets. Since I have to pay for another year without having not even one of their security monitoring boxes in my home, I still have another year to pay for something I am not using. Easy money for these crooks. So that’s a year of emails each and every day to the CEO on why they are the bottom dwellers of all security companies out there. They are the lowest of the low and I have a enough reasons for a years worth of emails. Like when I did have them and the times my alarms went off at 2 and even 3am and not one single monitor call. This must be the only job where their monitoring company gets to come to work and sleep, because they sure don’t answer alarm calls. Do not believe the few good fake reviews from their own family and friends. Read the real reviews on website that do not support any company. Amazing how many of the same complaints from years and years of reviews. Now they can add me to the list.

    Very bad customer service. They have a trip charge of 25$. I paid it the first time and in the past 90 days I’ve had to call them another two times about the same camera and same issue. They want to charge me 25$ again. Also the technician that came to fix the camera asked about the money before even looking at the issue. My keypad never works and the cameras are always having issues. I wouldn’t recommend them at all.

    Horrible company. Drains your pockets. I’ve installed this product in my home really for a Ring door bell and now I am stuck with over charges for something I dont even use. Called to lower monthly prices and they would not do it because I am late into my contract, mind you I’ve been calling way since in beginning 2 months of my contract. Stay away!

    Wife wanted a quote for some specific system upgrades (since we have an existing hard wired system). We wanted a bid because after all, there are other systems and equipment out there. If they were competitive I would not mind paying a little more for a established product and service. They refused to give us a bid without a credit or debit card. Apparently they want to charge for total system conversion along with their monthly service, sight unseen. No thanks. I wondered why my neighbor quit working for ADT. With their sales tactics it is no wonder they get one star reviews.

    This is perhaps one of the worst site I visit each month. Nothing ever works. I didn’t even get a confirmation number this time, just a cc validated message. Went back in to see if it actually paid the bill and there was nothing to say one way or the other if it was paid or if the auto pay will just start next month. Its confusing and not user friendly. My panel has been fixed once already and is having the same problem. Upon moving I was told I had to start a new contract, I couldn’t transfer my existing contract that only had a few months left on, I was told I had to buy a new one. Only after signing the new contract was I told that I could’ve paid out and released myself but it was “unfortunately too late now”. I’ve only had negative experiences with ADT and look forward to leaving this crooked company for good, well as soon as my FORCED contract is up.

    After 3 years of thinking that the alarm key fob ADT gave me for mobile panic alarm I find out from them that I was never connected to their service!!!!! In fact, they tone told me it was ILLEGAL for them to connect me to their remote service!!!! I have been walking around my home with this key fob in my hand believing that if I had an emergency all I had to do was press a button and help would arrive!!! It’s a good thing I never needed it! They gave me a potentially deadly false sense of security which was deceptive trade and negligence on their part!!!! Beware. You are NOT protected! With ADT!!!!!

    Our ADT alarm hadn’t worked for months and they told us we would have to upgrade to an expensive new system so we cancelled. The representative said they would waive the monthly fees for the period it hadn’t been working, but instead sent a collection agency after my wife. When I called customer service to sort this they were not interested.
    If you need an alarm system, go with a customer-oriented one.

    ADT has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I’ve had nothing but issues from day one and the way they would like to rectify the situation is binding you to a new three year contract to replace equipment which has proven to be non functioning. And let’s not forget the two month cancellation fee they are adding on because you can not cancel service if it’s broken they want to come out and make it “right”. I was woken up by a faulty sensor at 4am And it continued to go off until 5 am when I finally pulled it off the wall completely. I have been fined by the city which I was supposed to be reimbursed for never saw that money again and they came out multiple times to replace sensors but were adiment that I could not get a new system because it wasn’t necessary. The experience I had is unreal.

    I didn’t originally contract with ADT, but they purchased the company which I had contracted with, and I continued with them after that purchase.
    When I sold the house which was monitored by them, I wrote to notify them. I gave them a date at which the service was to end, along with my new address and telephone number (landline) where I could be reached for any closing billing.
    I heard nothing from them for over a year, at which point I was contacted by a collections company who claimed that I failed to pay for the past year’s service.
    Basically, ADT was billing me for a year’s service on a house I no longer owned.
    I had mail forwarded for six months, and received no notice from ADT. The collection company had been provided with my new address and phone number by ADT, which they had obtained from my letter of notice of end of service.
    I have since learned that this a common practise of this company.
    I have no complaint with the actual service they provide – mostly because I had no break-in attempts during their period of service. I have no idea what their actual response is like.
    But this practise of billing for an entire YEAR after they were notified of the end of service is nothing short of theft.
    I find it ironic that a company whose mandate is to protect their clients from theft is, in fact, engaged in it.

    My rates were raised with out my consent so yes they will raise your rates without notification and there is no credit applied to those months that you weren’t aware of. Not only that. I was told I requested for a maintenance at 10.00 which I never did. So I was being charged for that.
    I don’t recommend this company to anyone. PLEASE do your research before jumping on with a company “ADT security.”

    Their entire promotions are based on lies. I would give no stars if that is possible. When we bought a new home we were contacted by ADT with a promotion that for zero dollars we can get equipment’s and set up service for a monthly cost of 29$. We were asked for credit card information and told that the technician will come, look at house and provide details of security service. We can deny the service if we don’t like it. During call we were not told that they are going to deduct 99$. When technicians arrived it was Quentin Dancy, trainee Wil and regional officer Casey. I mentioned I dont want to setup any service today and that is when they mentioned that our credit card was already deducted for today’s service and there is no point in saying no now. The mistake I made was that I should have denied the service even if were to lose the 100$.
    They were not transparent from the beginning, only after complete setup of equipments they revealed that we need to have a landline to avail the 29$ service and if not we have to pay 53$ . They setup lot of equipments that I agreed to install for 600$ and told that they will provide a door bell camera for free . At that point I didnt have a wifi and hence they said they will come back to set it up. Today when a new technician came to setup the doorbell he mentioned I have to pay a 299$ one time fee to upgrade to a get that service. I was not informed of this cost upfront.
    In addition to this, they promised a 300$ gift card since I was not happy before signing the contract. Later I realized that we had to get a gift certificate, take a money order for 5$ per 100$ gift card and mail the documents to MPell. We have mailed the documents and its been over 1 month and we haven’t received the gift cards yet. Every time we call Customer service, we have to wait for hours to get resolutions or updates.
    During setup we were also told that if we were unhappy with service we can cancel it up to 6 months. But when we called the customer service, they mentioned that they can cancel service only if there is something wrong with equipment and they cant fix it in 3 visits. Again this details were not provided to us.
    My biggest complain is that they were so caught up in selling the service and getting a customer sign up for contract, they were not clear on the conditions and transparent in explaining the costs and process involved while subscribing to that service. If I was informed of these in the beginning, I would have denied the service and not signed a 3 year contract. Please be careful when you get into sales call , make sure to take a day or two to think through and read the complete contract agreements before taking up this service. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what the sales person say, once we sign the contract we have to live with it.

    They give you an up front price, and then come and install everything. Then once they have the panel in your wall tell you it will be thousands more than originally quoted. They sold us 800 dollars worth of door/window devices then told us we would need 1300 dollars more worth of equipment. And it was an aggressive salesman pushing everything and putting more into the package than we wanted. Then they told us we would need to get a 50 dollar a month landline for our service to work properly on top of all the other hidden fees and subscriptions. We finally said enough and paid off our contract with them just to escape them. Beware of their aggressive sales and hidden fees.
