ADT is one of the oldest home security companies in the world, with over one century under its belt. With that much experience, ADT-Monitored Security is bound to know what it’s talking about with securing your home. OR do they really know? While one of the largest home security companies in the nation, many consumers of late have not been expressing fond interest in the company’s services. Hopefully, our quick Good & Bad breakdown will help give you an idea about what to expect with ADT-Monitored Security.

The Good

  • $28.99/Mo Traditional Plan For New Customers

  • ADT-Monitored Security Pulse App

New customers of ADT-Monitored Security can get started for just $28.99 per month with its Traditional package which is slightly lower than a majority of security companies out there. This plan comes with limited features but all plans come with a 6-month money back guarantee. If during this time, you are at all dissatisfied with the service that ADT-Monitored Security provides, they will refund you the installation charge and any monitoring fees you’ve accrued.

ADT-Monitored Security video plan comes with free installation, and a Nest Learning Thermostat which is just one of the perks of paying $49.99 per month for this plan. Not only that, but this plan includes home automation features that let you control door locks, lighting, your thermostat, and your garage, remotely from the ADT-Monitored Security Pulse app.

The Bad

Customers that are new to ADT-Monitored Security service will be able to take advantage of its lowest monitoring plan (Traditional) at $28.99 per month, however, this plan does not come with free installation or the extended limited warranty. You will be required to sign a 36-month contract (24-month if you are a resident of California) which is unfortunate if you become dissatisfied with ADT-Monitored Security service after the 6-month money back guarantee.

Users of our site have had quite a bit to say about ADT-Monitored Security and the service it provides. Several reviews proclaimed problems with ADT-Monitored Security reps not showing up to appointments they scheduled, not to mention the hours that some customers have been put on hold for. Other customers of ADT-Monitored Security have mentioned that they were charged high cancellation fees as well as expensive rates for service visits.

The Bottom Line

ADT-Monitored Security offers great introductory packages to help you get started with securing your home. The Video package is a little more expensive than the Traditional but it comes with free installation, tons of home automation features, and a 6-month money back guarantee. However, if you decide to go with ADT-Monitored Security, you must sign a 36-month contract, and you run the risk of dealing with its poor customer service, high cancellation fees, and costly service visits.

We do not recommend ADT-Monitored Security to be your home security provider. There are many other companies out there that offer better customer service and that are more affordable. Companies like Frontpoint Security, Protect America, and SimpliSafe.

    I had a fire in my home when I was not there (but my dog and 3 cats were). ADT immediately called me to warn me and when I didnt answer immediately had my citys fire fighters dispatched. The firefighters responded in under 5 minutes. The fire marshall explained had ADT not have called so quickly my house would have been in flames. I will forever be thankful for them.

    First I would like to say I feel like I’ve been ripped off. ADT told me I can cancel my service within the first week if I didn’t like it. I called back in 3 days because I found something better. But guess what ADT told me that I already signed a contract. So I was stuck with them for the next 3 years. A word of advice please check out other sources before going with ADT. And when my contract was finally over they still charge me every month. And it was like pulling teeth to get them to cancel.

    I have the worst experience possible with ADT. They cheat, they will bill you for the service that they never provided. i don’t know how many times i called, how many hours i spent trying to tell them the story. They just connect you from one person to another so that you are exhausted to tell them what you need from them. I am soooo tired that they never follow up on their promises. Stay away from ADT.

    I have to wait 3 days for them to fix a window senser. I told them that my home won’t be secure until then. They told me to bypass the window senser. Thanks ADT for another nightmare with PTSD. US Veteran.

    I recently signed up for service with ADT via Defender. I have had the service for one month and within this month the system has malfunctioned twice. We have had two service visits without resolution. The police department had to come out due to the false alarms. I contacted Defender to cancel service due to the defective system. I spoke with Kelly, Cancellation Department Manager (employee number 13363) in St. Louis, MO. She was extremely nasty and frigid. Needless to say, she would not let me out of the contract because the 3 day grace period has passed. What kind of company expects someone to continue with a service that malfunctioned twice within 30 days!!!
    I also contacted ADT and they stated that they were unable to cancel the service due to my contract being with Defender.

    I explained to ADT how I will not do business or recommend them to anyone due to the fact that they (ADT) as the parent company can not reprimand Defender (contractor) and assist an unhappy customer. Plus Defender provided rude and unacceptable service via customer service both management and faulty equipment. I am very disgusted that my only options are being stuck paying for a service that I am not happy with or paying $1300 to cancel the service.

    Please do not sign up with Defenders. If you don’t have 3 or more service visits regarding the same problem they will not cancel your contract. Please do not sign up with ADT they are not supportive of their customers via the contract companies. Both companies are in it together just for the money!!!! STEER CLEAR.

    DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THIS COMPANY.
    Long story short… a greasy sales guy convinced us to sign a contract with the promise that we could remove services we didn’t want at any time.
    We weren’t sure that we wanted a camera and the app but he convinced us to get the pulse system and the camera…
    anyways, we cannot and we are out of luck for 3 years.
    WE ALSO were almost dinged for MOVING HOUSES.
    The contract is NON TRANSFERRABLE and you will have to pay an early termination fee if you don’t sign up for another 3 YEAR CONTRACT. We moved provinces, and didnt have a choice because my husband got a great job.
    So we’ve been stuck with them for 5 years and we can’t get out.
    We also had some issues with a door contact (luckily my husband is a tech for another company and was able to repair the problem) but because a technician was going to have to come out, we would have to pay him his hourly rate to come fix the problem with the ADT SYSTEM.
    I DESPISE THIS COMPANY AND NOW WHEN WE BUY A HOUSE WE WILL BE STUCK IN ANOTHER FREAKING CONTRACT.
    Then!! then didn’t take money out of my account for MONTHS, then all of a sudden (after i had been paying it ON TIME through online banking) they started taking money out of my account so i was being dinged double.

    After 8 years with ADT, we decided to go with another company. So, at the end of the regular quarterly billing period we sent a note with the on-time, returned, next-quarter bill stating that we had terminated (cancelled) service effectively immediately. Eighteen days later we received an automated telephone alert that the periodic test had failed. I called the local office to tell them that we no longer had service with ADT. We endured very hostile language from two people who said that we had to apply for cancellation 30-days in advance. After 8 years we surely were not under any contractual obligations. However, we since have received from ADT’s Colorado office a ridiculous letter that basically treats customers like dirt. On December 4th we got a bill from the Pittsburgh office for another quarter. We returned it unpaid. Background: during 8 years we never had a check-up call from either a person or a computer following occasional false alarms. Was anyone monitoring the system?

    DO NOT BUY THE KEY FOB REMOTES FROM ADT. I bought two remotes for $100 each from out installer only to find out that they will not work from outside our house. We had a service Tech come back to check on the install and he got them to work from the driveway when he held it up to the windshield but I have been unable to duplicate that on my own. ADT says that these remotes are non-returnable so we are out the 200 bucks for something we will never use.

    I was promised a monthly bill for basic wireless monitoring of under $30.00 but my actual monthly bill is around $60.00. My previous security company (Floridalarm) only charged me $16.99 monthly. So ADT sales rep came to my house and lied to me and now I’m also stuck in a 3 year contract.

    Stay away from ADT! It is a scam!

    Their sales agent came to our house after we recently bought it and told us about their service and said right now they are offering free equipment and free installation at the lowest price of $46.38. 3 window sensors, 1 motion sensor, and 1 that detects windows being broken (I can’t remember what it’s called), and 2 remotes. after talking for awhile we agreed to go through with it, but still had doubts about whether or not we could afford it.

    When their technician arrived we asked him about cancellation fees, he told us that there aren’t any. Turns out that was a lie because about a month later I called the sales lady asking to cancel our service and she gets very defensive and tells me that I have 2 options. Option 1, I can stop paying and their lawyers will come after us… Not sure why she felt the need to tell me that. Option 2, I pay 70% of the remaining 3 year balance. So fine, i guess we are pretty much screwed.

    I later found out that we were also lied to about their ‘lowest price’ when we got an ad in the mail from ADT offering free 15 window sensors, 1 remote, 1 digital camera and a $100 VISA gift card for $26.99 a month! It is so frustrating getting 1 of these ads every month knowing we are almost paying double for way less equipment.

    Be careful!! I had them for my office and when we moved I had to sign another 3 year contract. I did not want to but there was no option. Now after 2 years we are moving and after 4 years with ADT I have to pay a 425.00 penalty for not fulfilling the second 3 year contract. ERGH!!!! Go somewhere else.

    Their billing is deceptive. They force you to auto pay unless you “qualify. Thankfully I did qualify before your auto pay when charge the account when the invoice is created even though the due date is almost a month after. When you call billing reps they say to just ignore the due date every time and they charge the account on your install date. What is the point of the due date?

    I sold my home and called ADT to cancel service to that home on theee separate occasions. They said they updated their records but I never received any follow up. On my third and final call with ADT I was told even though I sold my home they were still going to charge me an additional $1700.00. Why would I pay $1700 for an alarm system and a home I no longer own? Their customer service is terrible I would never recommend ADT to anyone go with simply safe alarm system .

    When ADT came to install get a quote they never told me about the 3 year contract, they said I could cancel at anytime. I went to cancel and they told me I would have to pay. My ADT system has not been working correctly for over a month and their solution is to send a technician. Customer service isn’t helpful or considerate that no one told someone about a 3 year contract. I would never recommend ADT to anyone in the future.

    They are just the worst. The Pulse app doesn’t work a lot of the time and CS really doesn’t care. They are very highly trained and high pressure sales people but when things go wrong CS is equally well trained and deflecting and they tell you to call your local dealer. ADT took my money but won’t fix any issues. There are big penalties for canceling too.
    AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

    Make sure you cancel At least 30 days PRIOR to you moving because they will charge you an extra 30 days & will not negotiate that even though new owners moved in & paid! BeWaRe!!

    I had Security system installed last year. I wasnt really bothered my partner paid for some of the payments. I asked partner to leave now im footing the bill. I didnt sign a contract, however both our names were on the letters ect. My daughter was murdered last year and I was a wreck, I told ADT I was also a carer and on benefits. Should i get Legal Advice Thanks S Wild
