ADT is one of the oldest home security companies in the world, with over one century under its belt. With that much experience, ADT-Monitored Security is bound to know what it’s talking about with securing your home. OR do they really know? While one of the largest home security companies in the nation, many consumers of late have not been expressing fond interest in the company’s services. Hopefully, our quick Good & Bad breakdown will help give you an idea about what to expect with ADT-Monitored Security.

The Good

  • $28.99/Mo Traditional Plan For New Customers

New customers of ADT-Monitored Security can get started for just $28.99 per month with its Traditional package which is slightly lower than a majority of security companies out there. This plan comes with limited features but all plans come with a 6-month money back guarantee. If during this time, you are at all dissatisfied with the service that ADT-Monitored Security provides, they will refund you the installation charge and any monitoring fees you’ve accrued.

ADT-Monitored Security video plan comes with free installation, and a Nest Learning Thermostat which is just one of the perks of paying $49.99 per month for this plan. Not only that, but this plan includes home automation features that let you control door locks, lighting, your thermostat, and your garage, remotely from the ADT-Monitored Security Pulse app.

The Bad

Customers that are new to ADT-Monitored Security service will be able to take advantage of its lowest monitoring plan (Traditional) at $28.99 per month, however, this plan does not come with free installation or the extended limited warranty. You will be required to sign a 36-month contract (24-month if you are a resident of California) which is unfortunate if you become dissatisfied with ADT-Monitored Security service after the 6-month money back guarantee.

Users of our site have had quite a bit to say about ADT-Monitored Security and the service it provides. Several reviews proclaimed problems with ADT-Monitored Security reps not showing up to appointments they scheduled, not to mention the hours that some customers have been put on hold for. Other customers of ADT-Monitored Security have mentioned that they were charged high cancellation fees as well as expensive rates for service visits.

The Bottom Line

ADT-Monitored Security offers great introductory packages to help you get started with securing your home. The Video package is a little more expensive than the Traditional but it comes with free installation, tons of home automation features, and a 6-month money back guarantee. However, if you decide to go with ADT-Monitored Security, you must sign a 36-month contract, and you run the risk of dealing with its poor customer service, high cancellation fees, and costly service visits.

We do not recommend ADT-Monitored Security to be your home security provider. There are many other companies out there that offer better customer service and that are more affordable. Companies like Frontpoint Security, Protect America, and SimpliSafe.

    Customer service unreliable and inconsistent. They have many third party dealers, who give different recommendations. There are many security services out there. Do not use ADT. I cannot wait until my contract expires.

    I contacted ADT for a quote on what it wold cost to secure our home. After discussing my needs and size of the house, etc. he said our plan would cost us about $128 a month. Then he got his supervisor on the phone who cornfirmed that amount. We were asking for glass breaks and door alarms for four doors so we felt the amount was fair. But when the technician came he immediately drilled his box into our wall, and walked around and looked at the house, added a few more window breaks and said that it would cost us over $9,000. whereupon my husband said, “You handle this.” He was just too angry to talk to the guy. So, I whiddled him down to $2,000, but I still feel ripped off and had. I really can’t wait until our 36 months is over. I think the guys I first talked to were con artists. I wonder if they tell their technicians to drill their box in before they walk through the house to come up with a higher amount than you’ve been quoted. The box just seemed to say that we were stuck.

    BEWARE ADT!!! PASS THE WORD. NEW ADT SYSTEM INSTALLED, paid almost $1,000. for everything. Two days later, two of the sensors popped off. The trainee had ‘installed’ them incorrectly. One of the parts was missing and when I told the service person at ADT that a little piece of plastic seemed to be missing, I was told it would be at least $110. for them to come out and ‘service’ because of the missing plastic piece. WHAT!? ADT’s TRAINEE did not put the sensors in correctly. We are paying $55. mo. for this crap and cannot use the system. Our contract will cost an absolute fortune if we have to buy out of this mess NEVER AGAIN. WARNING. WARNING. WARNING.

    I cancelled my service, which I have had since 2009, on 08/25/2017. You would think there would not be any new charges on this account. Well these people billed me for 9/18 – 10/17 and then told me it takes 30 days to cancel their service. Bull on that…then they are only going to refund me for a partial of the billing…NEVER, I say NEVER use these people…a bunch of thieves. I’ll be looking for my refund Brandon, C/S Manager from Corporate office.

    Heads up if you rent. Every time you move your contract starts over and if you rent and move within your 3-year contract, you have to get a new contract. So effectively if you rent and move you’re screwed into always having ADT or paying the ridiculous cancellation fee. Good luck trying to find this in your contract also because that rule actually lives on ADT’s web page in a small asterisk in super tiny font and the bottom of the page.

    I was forced to used adt due to landlord obligations. Before signing the lease, the lease agent advised me that it’s part of the lease but when the lease ends. the landlord will take over the contract. So there will be no adt termination due. Fast forward 2 yrs later, adt apparently changed their policy and is No longer allowed to transfer ownership of contract. So now I’m stuck with a bill over $600. Customer service is rude and not helpful at all.

    This is the worse company I’ve ever dealt with since the 80’s. they need to wake up and realize that it’s customers like us that pays on time that makes their business.

    This goes without saying, but I’m so angry that I will say it. I will never ever sign up with them nor recommend them.

    Horrible Company! I moved in 2015 and my contract was taken over by the occupants of my previous home. I keep getting bills from ADT even though I have called them numerous times and they admit that I do not have anything due to them

    The sales reps and installation workers are like vultures. We just moved into our new home and after 10 days we had 3 unsolicited visits from AST reps and field techs. Not to mention tons of calling cards shoved into our mailbox. I asked for ADT to install a new system in my home for the basic pricing of $27.99. What they don’t tell you is that it costs $100 for installation and then the techs will try to charge you upwards of $800 for equipment. That’s ridiculous. Then, they forced me to chose the $52.99 a month after they found out that my home phone service was VoIP. Why are they sticking with the traditional landlines when most homes have wireless phones now? It makes ZERO sense to me. Needless to say, I canceled my services and requested a full refund and went with a better brand.

    For a security system it is important not to have false alarms. ADT appears to have nothing but false alarms and always in the middle of the night. E.g. Low battery warning that can easily wait until the next day and most likely happen at night because the temperatures drop. Means that smoke alarm probably still will work for a few hours or days. Certainly when house warms up next day..

    As if this is not bad enough ADT then calls every phone number on their calling list including fire department regardless whether the phones are answered or not.

    And when ADT has woken you up in the middle of the night the calling employe is unable to tell you what sort of alarm and the urgency is.
    When calling the next day to complain then all of a sudden it can tell you it was as always the smoke detector in the hall. No other alarms which makes it likely it just is low battery.

    Many false alarms are technically unnecessary and bad news because the alarms lose credibility.

    We will never use ADT again. They take the money but do not provide security. We had a problem with ourbtlelohone line that meant they could not communicate with us and did not get any alarm when we had a near serious smoke issue. We have a second home with a security system who will all us the moment there is any issue. ADT only have automated calls. They will not get a human To call you and let you know there is a problem.

    We had an appointment and no one showed or even bothered to call us to say running late or even coming. When we called we got silly excuses after being given run around. Ridiculous. Horrible customer service and we do not recommend at all. This is not our first call just simply trying to get information even.

    ADT’S home security service malfunction in Jan 17. Our home remained unsecured for 4 months while we were away. ADT was informed that the system was not working and did not attempt to repair it–but did continue to bill for the nonexistent service. It was then formally discontinued and another security service was install. Now 9 months later ADT is still billing us. Talking with customer service is like talking to a wall.
    DO NOT USE ADT. YOU WILL RECEIVE LITTLE TO NO SERVICE AND BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF FINANCIALLY. YOU WOULD BE BETTER OFF AND LOSE LESS TO HAVE NO SECURITY RATHER THAN ADT.

    Customer service is the worst!!! And the app doesn’t want work and it just freezes my phone. Wished I didn’t pay a arm and a leg for installation cause I want to switch to someone, anyone else. Don’t believe those flyers you get about cheap installs, when they get there they will just tell you that it’s the lowest package they have and talk you into expansive equip. I paid $1600 for total install for a 2 story home. And when they thing started beeping at 3 am, the customer service rep attacked like I was bothering her to call at 3 am. Hello I’m the one listening to beeps at 3 am. Then when the tech didn’t show the next day, customer service tried to tell me it cause they have me listed in a different time zone, even though I verified that when I set up the appt. Just an all around bad experience!

    There’s nothing wrong with devices but customer services are suck. Called them many times to cancel service. They made it terribly hard to cancel it with many requirements. I agreed to pay cancellation fee which includes fines and 75% left. They told me it’s already canceled and gave me cancellation ID. Next month, the bank charged me money again. I called them, and they said there’s another requirement for cancellation. It happened like that 5 times already. Feel like I’m a slave under ADT protection…

    We had ADT for 7.5 years. The introductory price and set up was reasonable and well done by the local provider. But over the years the rates climbed from $35/mo to today’s increase to be $51/mo We are not using it so called to cancel. Took 28 minutes and they still charge you for 30 days after you cancel and also wipe your monitoring system that you own so it cannot be used in stand alone. So you own junk. Will go to home installed and monitioring system we can turn on and off as we want along with cheap cell system

    My house front door was kicked in and opened ( 9/11/17). They took the car keys and fled with the car. The house is armed with ADT sensor and motion detectors and was armed to stay. With the first kick, the sensor broke and did not go off or sound. The house stayed armed despite the fact that burglars were in. I disarmed the system after I called 911. ADT customer advocacy has been extremely dismissive and rude about the fact that their alarm malfunction has put me in serious risk. I felt that I have taken the necessary steps to protect myself by securing the house. They argue that they don’t know what may have been the cause that the alarm malfunctioned, and they won’t take any responsibility. One person took the liberty of disputing the fact that I’ve armed the system at all, when their record clearly shows that the house was armed until when the first police arrived. Another person said: I’m sorry you feel that way. If you feel that ADT is responsible for your car being stolen, file a loss claim. I couldn’t make this person/machine see that I’m upset that their flimsy equipment that breaks with an indirect impact has put me in serious risk. I’m shopping for a new company.
    ADT is all soft and nice talk, until you have a real safety issue. That’s when the gun come out.

    The ADT installation and equipment is okay! The REAL PROBLEM is the AFTER SALES SERVICE! I have had had my alarm system for 2 years. During this time, I have had to have to book two service calls. For each of these service appointments I had to wait more than 2 weeks for servicing to repair the problem. Naturally, while waiting for the repair to take place the alarm system is either compromised or totally inoperable. Of course, while your alarm system doesn’t work, you STILL PAY the monthly service fee! I would never recommend ADT to anyone. The system is fine when it’s working, but if it breaks down the customer is in trouble due to the terrible after-sales service.
