ADT is one of the oldest home security companies in the world, with over one century under its belt. With that much experience, ADT-Monitored Security is bound to know what it’s talking about with securing your home. OR do they really know? While one of the largest home security companies in the nation, many consumers of late have not been expressing fond interest in the company’s services. Hopefully, our quick Good & Bad breakdown will help give you an idea about what to expect with ADT-Monitored Security.

The Good

  • $28.99/Mo Traditional Plan For New Customers

New customers of ADT-Monitored Security can get started for just $28.99 per month with its Traditional package which is slightly lower than a majority of security companies out there. This plan comes with limited features but all plans come with a 6-month money back guarantee. If during this time, you are at all dissatisfied with the service that ADT-Monitored Security provides, they will refund you the installation charge and any monitoring fees you’ve accrued.

ADT-Monitored Security video plan comes with free installation, and a Nest Learning Thermostat which is just one of the perks of paying $49.99 per month for this plan. Not only that, but this plan includes home automation features that let you control door locks, lighting, your thermostat, and your garage, remotely from the ADT-Monitored Security Pulse app.

The Bad

Customers that are new to ADT-Monitored Security service will be able to take advantage of its lowest monitoring plan (Traditional) at $28.99 per month, however, this plan does not come with free installation or the extended limited warranty. You will be required to sign a 36-month contract (24-month if you are a resident of California) which is unfortunate if you become dissatisfied with ADT-Monitored Security service after the 6-month money back guarantee.

Users of our site have had quite a bit to say about ADT-Monitored Security and the service it provides. Several reviews proclaimed problems with ADT-Monitored Security reps not showing up to appointments they scheduled, not to mention the hours that some customers have been put on hold for. Other customers of ADT-Monitored Security have mentioned that they were charged high cancellation fees as well as expensive rates for service visits.

The Bottom Line

ADT-Monitored Security offers great introductory packages to help you get started with securing your home. The Video package is a little more expensive than the Traditional but it comes with free installation, tons of home automation features, and a 6-month money back guarantee. However, if you decide to go with ADT-Monitored Security, you must sign a 36-month contract, and you run the risk of dealing with its poor customer service, high cancellation fees, and costly service visits.

We do not recommend ADT-Monitored Security to be your home security provider. There are many other companies out there that offer better customer service and that are more affordable. Companies like Frontpoint Security, Protect America, and SimpliSafe.

    I have been using ADT for about a year. I wanted to ask them about the benefit of having pre-wiring done in a new construction home that I’ll be moving into later this year. I chatted online twice and asked whether it would impact ADT’s service installation fee or monthly rates. Both times, their representative told me to contact them back when I actually have a home and just ended the conversation. I made such an inquiry at this time because I would need to make the decision on pre-wiring at this stage of construction. Never have I experienced such an unpleasant conversation with a service company, in any industry. I’ll cancel my current contract even if it would cost me hundreds in cancellation fee, as long as it reduces their revenue. I’ll never do business with this company even if they are the only company left on earth.

    One of the worst decisions I’ve made in recent years was to sign with ADT. Faulty system set-up cost me hundreds of dollars in false alarm fees. I had to constantly run home from work to see why the alarm was going off and it would go off in the middle of the night and wake everyone up. When I called to have it cancelled, I received THE WORST customer service I’ve ever encountered in my entire life. They told me to pay the cancellation fee or deal with it (I am NOT paraphrasing). I deeply regret the day I signed up with ADT after I came home to my home being robbed. I would rather go through that several times over than to ever deal with ADT again. I have a useless alarm that I don’t use but still have to pay for! Not to mention the incorrect charges on my account and hours of my life spent on the phone trying to get their mistakes corrected. I CANNOT WAIT to be done with them in October and get off this stressful 3 year ride that has cost me my hard-earned money and my peace of mind.

    Terrible service Horrible service.
    My brother doesn’t speak English well so I cxall DAT customer service for my brother and he was with me right next to me.
    Call three times for cancel my brothers account but they don’t let me.
    Lady i talk to acting like she dosent understand me And she hang up on me without notified. That’s ridiculous.

    Was customer for many years, moved, relocated service to new office (business) they continued to charge me for the old office and after 3 months of trying, I gave up trying to get my $600+ back they stole from me. They SUCK, they DON’T CARE about you as a customer, a person, nothing. I’m a widow and can’t afford the loss of the money, the DON’T CARE about that either. NEVER USE ADT. Also, they are 3 times the cost of other BETTER security companies.

    May system was disconnected and replaced by another company
    You would think we would get an immediate call from ADT to let us know our system was down but never did.
    This was really disappointing to find out
    Apparently if all you do is make your payments and never have alarms go off they don’t monitor your household
    You would think they would have a way of knowing if your system is even working or connected and contact you immediately

    I feel like I was very misled about this service. They were going to convert me from Vivent to their system. First thing they did when they got here was to take out the panel and disable the Vivent system before explaining the other changes that would have to be made.. Then they discussed the installation options. instead of changing the service they replaced every item. they did not use any of the already installed items. They might have needed to do this but I was lead to believe that they would just replace the panel so that they would monitor the old system. They also indicated that I would have all they same features except the camera. However they did not replace the thermostat or the front door look. I have tried to contact them three times to discuss getting out of my contract. They left me on hold twice and then sent me to voice mail. I also sent them an email through their site. I have not received a call back from them at all.

    Rajee-Yes, They offer something and when the installer comes then they rip you and they do not explain. When I complained that I do not want the same installer that came a week before they sent the same installer and he said he would come every time we have changes.

    Had ADT I was given a new contract and it was not any good the system runs with batteries and I had a problem with that . The system did not always work I would get a alarm saying baterrie is low I replace it and it would happen again in about A week . I called for repair and they would leave and there I was same old issues. Then it is suppose to have cell tower back up and it never worked right they came to my house on at least 3 occasions for this issue. I was told it doesn’t matter if cell tower works they would still get a call. I looked at it as I was paying for that service and I was not getting it. So with the battery issue and cell tower I figured I was not getting want I was paying for. So I told them I did not want there service and now they are trying to get me to pay for the contract and I refuse to be intimidated .

    My experience with ADT was absolutely horrible. After a few months the unit would malfunction making a loud audible sound. ADT tried to reset remotely several times but unit continued to malfunction at any time of day or night. ADT finally agreed to come and service the unit. Was leaving on vacation in a few days and ADT was unable to make repair before my departure. Canceled service upon my return and cost me over $400. I will do my homework this time and find a better option.

    ADT-Monitored Security is not properly install and that is where they get you to pay extra money to fix all those magnet that they use, they keep fallen off.
    and to get a good deal you must sign for 36 months the offers is great introductory packages to help you get started with securing your home. features, however if you decide to go with ADT-Monitored Security, you must sign a 36-month contract, and you run the risk of dealing with its poor customer service, high cancellation fees,

    Worst company to cancel the contract with mail 3 letter talked to like 8 different people and nothing they still want to charge my bank account, their service wasn’t working on my premises and they couldn’t fix the problem but still wanted us to keep paying SO i called the bank and put a STOP payment on them.. They want to send me to collection we will see what happens next.

    After more than 16 years of continual service our building was sold. We paid for the service for several months after we asked to discontinue ADTs’ service. We have been informed that even after 16 plus years of service (where we paid on time) that due to some very fine print ADT is going to come after us for an additional two and one-half years of service that we were not going to receive.
    It is hard to imagine that ADT would not consider the loyalty we have given the company but instead they are fleecing us for an additional 2 ½ years of monthly fees. Shame on ADT!

    Had them for 3 years. 6 months ago, the back door sensor kept falling off, which makes the system a decorative piece, because you can’t activate. Had techs out to fix it, two-sided tape, silicone & just when I thought we were good, it fell down again. Found out, after the 4th time they were out, it could’ve been hard wired. Customer service flipped me from person to person, extremely unprofessional. My husband was working in a different state & I was alone at home. Kind of pointless protection when you can’t utilize it. Cancelled ADT completely, they don’t even try to make a wrong right. Never again. Ever.

    ADT IS TERRIBLE WHEN IT COMES TO BILLING. I HAD CANCELLED MY SERVICE SINCE OCTOBER, BUT WAS STILL PAYING BECAUSE THE CONTRACT DOES NOT EXPIRE UNTIL 9/2018 AND I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE BILL WOULD BE LESS 6 MONTHS LATER AND NO IT IS NOT. THEY GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND ABOUT IT SAYING THAT I NEVER CANCELLED AND STILL OWE ALOT OF MONEY. THEY ARE TOO EXPENSIVE.

    They offer a good package deal until the installer comes out.
    I cancelled within 48 hours which the contract say you can, but it’s been over a month and ADT refuse to refund my money. It took about but five seconds to debit payment from my account but it’s a problem to credit it back.
    I cancelled March 16,2017, they removed the equipment on the 22nd I had tho call back on the 24th to ask for my refund. Was told April 18th the refund was denied…
    When speaking tho customer service they loose patience because I want to know exactly where will I get my money.

    I have been a customer for a 4 years, I was lead to believe that after the first contract it would go month to month… I sold my house, called and notified them of that and the date and to cancel service. They said fine thanks for being a loyal customer… Then i notice they have continued billing my credit card monthly… I called and the answer is “yes you have to pay 75% + tax for the remainder of the contract”, I explained my understanding that after initial term it was month to month, and that when I called to cancel I was not told any of this.. Their Answer “Oh well, sorry the representative didn’t tell you” in other words KMA…. we got you for $55.00 a month for doing nothing…. I would never use, refer or recommend anyone to the company, they are the worst….. and this is recent 4/19/2017. Avoid them at all cost.

    I own a rental home and paid for the hardware from ADT and it was up to the renters to pay for monitoring if they wanted it. The first renter paid long enough to fulfill the contract. New renters had no desire to may for monitoring and cancelled. ADT continues to harass me to pay their bills. Will never, ever use them again!
