ADT offers professionally installed home security systems in 40 U.S. states. They do not offer home security in the following US states: Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire. Almost all equipment needs to be purchased upfront. Monthly monitoring fees start at $27.99 for basic home security, $52.99 to use the ADT app, and $58.99 for video monitoring.

ADT Mobile App

With the ADT app, you can disarm and arm your ADT home security system, receive email and text message alarm notifications, and control your home’s smart devices like smart locks and motion sensors. According to the ADT home security systems website, the ADT app uses innovative Z-Wave technology. ADT offers two main mobile apps for their systems: ADT Pulse and ADT Control.

ADT Home Security Guarantees

ADT offers a six-month money-back guarantee on installation service and monitoring if you are unhappy with your current home security system. Additionally, according to the company’s website, ADT offers a theft protection guarantee. If your home has a burglary while your ADT alarm is set, the company will give you up to $500 towards your insurance deductible. This is a unique service is the home security industry.

Cons

High Monthly Monitoring Fees

Standard ADT monitoring plans for new customers start at $27.99 for the traditional package and increase to $58.99 for video monitoring. Those interested in the ADT mobile app or an outdoor/indoor camera, will need to pay more for those services. Overall, the monthly and upfront costs could end up being higher than other leading alarm and smart home systems. Looking specifically at the “traditional” package (their least expensive monitoring service), it is considerably higher than other industry-leading providers and their respective lower plans.

Unlike other home security companies, ADT does not disclose how much added on equipment is. While you can see that the company offers three packages, it’s difficult to see the distinctions and what equipment is offered in each package.

However, when you look at the customer reviews left for ADT, the good is outweighed by contract and customer service issues.

Customers are charged high monthly fees for ADT security services and are usually locked into a long-term contract. Also, there have been a plethora of negative customer reviews regarding the company’s customer service and professional installation.

What is ADT Pulse?

ADT Pulse is the company’s older alarm system. It is not available to new customers – instead, new customers use ADT Control. Existing customers can upgrade to ADT Control, or stay with ADT Pulse.

With ADT Pulse, you can control your security and automations systems remotely using the Pulse app. However, the control panel is not a touch screen and does not integrate with as many home automation products as ADT Control.

    Can’t schedule technician visits until a week out. If something happens on the day they are supposed to come and we can’t be home, we need to schedule for a whole other week. Their system has had issues since day one. The sensor doesn’t work, system won’t arm, loud beeping noising coming from the keypad in the middle of the night, and their techs can’t help until a week later.

    Horrible service. I had the system installed less than a year ago and two sensors constantly go off. I have made several phone calls but I stay on hold for 30 minutes then hang up. Service is very important and the other systems I have are

    ADT did not call the police.

    Recently my home was broken into, my ADT system functioned exactly as it should. Glass break sensor and motion detector both set off the alarm. ADT called our home and left a voice message on our answering machine and that was all. They did not contact the local police department or 911, they did not attempt to contact our additional emergency numbers. All they did was leave a message on our answering machine stating that there was an alarm detection and told us to call them if we had any questions.

    Since then we have attempted to contact ADT to get an explanation, to see what sort of recourse we have. Have been redirected to at least 6 different people, they tell us they will call us back and never do. We are completely getting the run around from ADT.

    We are through with ADT and everyone should be leery of this company.

    They don’t call you every time when you have an alarm. I asked them to send the police but they send an armed guard instead. I’m canceling. Scary when your afraid of your alarm company.

    HORRIBLE service….I have been on hold now for 21 minutes for a recurring problem with a faulty device. UNACCEPTABLE. A 3 year contract is bogus and if you relocate the time starts over again. I will pay out the remainder of the contract and give my business elsewhere (unless someone else knows of an out to this BS)..an expensive lesson, but how on earth can I be safe and secure when it takes forever and a day to speak with someone then another eternity if your call has to be transferred. “WE ARE SORRY FOR THE DELAY….my ass!

    Our alarm service has been fine, but I’m concerned about the security of our ADT account information. I’ve received two solicitation calls in two days from two different representatives of another company. Both had our ADT subscriber information and seemingly more. I wonder, a) how they got our information, and b) what information they have, i.e., auto pay bank information, SSN’s, home layout, system details, pass codes, etc. I called ADT customer relations to discuss my concerns, and provided them the phone numbers from which the calls were made. Both were local numbers. ADT’s response was essentially, “We don’t know, but we don’t share subscriber information with anyone.” Obviously, our information got out somehow. The phone numbers I provided should provide an avenue to determine answers to my concerns. ADT said they’d forward the information to their legal department; also, that we would receive no followup. ADT told me that unless the callers falsely represented themselves to be ADT employees, it’s my problem. They suggested I call the BBB! That’s ludicrous. I think we’ll shop for another security provider.

    Horrible customer service and too expensive. Im shopping around to replace this bad customer service company. I call them to add two thermostat and they offer me an appointment for the next satuday-8-12. I stay home waiting and at 1pm they called me to cancel…then they rescheduled for the next saturday, I agreed, the same thing…they scheduled me for 8-12 for SATUDAY. then they did not show up nor did they call…

    Is this want you want from you security company?

    I demanded someone from management to call me… Im still waiting 4 days later.

    ADT is full of crap. I had to contact the company 3 times in a row and tell them that my house was broken into and they told me it wasn’t. Only to find out, when I got back in town that it was! I reported it to the police department and everything. The thieves couldn’t get access to money and Jewerly so they left and ADT didn’t honor their guarantee! I will never trust ADT again and since then 17 family members and friends have switched our services and I am encouraging everyone to switch. I presented the police report and everything only to be told that it was vandalism! Regardless of what I had an alarm system that should have went off and triggered the police or third party to protect my property! No one should have even been able to rummage through my home for such period of time! Thanks for honoring your word ADT…

    Well after a 36 month contract & many problems from day 1. I call today to cancel with ADT to set for my DEPOSIT to be refunded. Well to my surprise!! It is now called a INSTALLATION charge!!! So, I now have handed over $150.00 to ADT!!! I guess they need it, and for the all the problems I have had with them. Well I guess I have to pay for them as well. I will never come back to be a customer, nor will I recommend ADT. If you have to put down a deposit. PLEASE, make sure you do out separately. So you don’t find yourself in my shoes. I will also fill a complaint with the BBB. This is very sad of a company of this size to manipulate customers to their financial advantaged!!

    I just cancelled my service. I have been unable to arm the system for over 6 months without it false alarming. The system doesn’t tell me which sensor is the source of the false alarm and the monitoring company only gives me an automated call when someone has entered the correct code to turn the system off. I shudder to think what would happen if it was a real event. All this for almost $50/month. I am canceling the service.

    The sales rep did not tell me that when transferring services to a new location that I would have top sign into a new contract. If I knew this I would have not signed up you adt. I was renting a home until I decided on a permanent location. And they also are trying to force me to update equipment that was working just fine.

    I’ve been trying to cancel my ADT service since 2012 but so far unsuccessful. My credit card had been charged from the beginning and had to close my credit card account to stop the debiting of my account. I called customer service to cancel numerous times but still failed to do so. ADT is like a roach motel, you check-in but you don’t check out.

    They are liars, promised monthly payment 36.99 if I keep their service at my new house, and start charge 48.99 by my credit card, I don’t have any contract with them, and they report over $800 on my credit collections, they are a scam.

    This is a joke for security . I had a robo call from them the first call they didn’t leave a message or call my other contact the next day I answered the robo call letting me know that my system is not working . I told them I was out of state they acted like they was connecting to my system and every thing was fine but that was not the case. I paid someone to go check my system and sure enough it’s not working and it will be well over a week befor they can come out . At least every other month for the last two years I have nothing but trouble with these liars . If my house gets broken in to I will sue . And that’s not the kind of person I am.

    During a false alarm I have to repeat my information to every person I speak with, if my alarm is going off that can be a big time delay and possibly the police are on their way while I repeat my information over and over!
    Today I got a call that my alarm is off line and I need to be there to trouble shoot it. They called me and I had to speak with two people because the first person could not really explain the problem to me. The second person I spoke to was curt with me and again I could not get my questions answered. The house with the alarm issue is a summer house and we aren’t always there.I was told I have to be there to trouble shoot it and it is my responsibility to do so so that I can be back on line! Well, isn’t part of having an alarm the fact that you want your house monitored while you AREN’t there. So right now my house could burn down because I am away and can’t trouble shoot it until I return!! This was discovered when they did the monthly check. They can’t tell me how long it has been off line AND I am paying for this? Now it is being suggested that I go with the more expensive plan in case it is a telephone problem!! Now I should pay more money for monitoring that is done via cell towers. So what HAVE I been paying for? I am so frustrated with the whole thing. And all I want is to have my house monitored for FIRE but you can’t get just fire alarms. Another way they get more money from you!!!

    I have their cameras and digital video recorder. I did not take the entire package. These cameras are horrible. I have had my house egged twice and could not figure out whom it was on the film. They don’t tell you that it’s essential to have lighting above the cameras. In front of camera or facing a camera is a ball of light. There is no zoom in on the any of the cameras. you must read and reread instructions as it’s not user friendly. I should have shopped around.
