ADT has a video plan option where for $49.99 per month, you get the standard security systems package along with a camera that includes video surveillance features that you can monitor through the ADT mobile app. Most home security service providers still do not offer video surveillance as a service. So if this is an important feature to you, you’ll want to consider ADT.

ADT Mobile App

With the ADT app, you can disarm and arm your ADT home security system, receive email and text message alarm notifications, and control your home’s smart devices like smart locks and motion sensors. According to the ADT home security systems website, the ADT app uses innovative Z-Wave technology.

ADT Guarantees

ADT offers a six-month money-back guarantee on installation and monitoring if you are unhappy with your current home security system. Additionally, according to the company’s website, ADT offers a theft protection guarantee that lets you “get up to $500 of your insurance deductible covered if a burglary occurs while your system is armed.”

High Monthly Monitoring Fees

Standard monitoring plans for new customers start at $28.99 for their traditional package. Those interested in the ADT mobile app or an outdoor/indoor camera, will need to pay more for the more comprehensive home security packages. The cost could end up being higher than other leading home security system providers. Specifically, their lowest plan is considerably higher than other industry-leading providers and their respective lower plans.

Undisclosed Information

Unike other home security companies, like Protect America, ADT does not disclose how much their monitoring packages are. While you can see that the company offers three packages, it’s difficult to see the distinctions and what equipment is offered in each package.

Negative ADT Home Security Reviews

ADT offers a video surveillance option, a helpful mobile app, and a money-back guarantee as well as a theft protection guarantee. Additionally, ADT offers a variety of high-tech products with their monitoring service including cameras, video doorbells, motion detectors/motion sensors, a digital control panel, smart locks, and other monitoring service equipment. Unfortunately, the bad seems to outweigh the good when it comes to ADT security systems.

Customers are charged high monthly fees for ADT security services and are usually locked into a long-term contract. Also, there have been a plethora of negative customer reviews regarding ADT customer service and professional installation.

    They charge a lot of money for basically nothing. My main beef with them is that the traditional breakers you attach to the windows are of terrible quality. They malfunction and/or detach quite easily; they use some really cheap glue (tape) to attach and with heat and time they simply fall off. The technicians don’t even clean the surfaces properly. And, secondly, when you eventually have to call on something they are downright rude and unhelpful on the phone. The English is quite often hard to understand on the phone, which instills little or no confidence. I’d switch to another company in a heartbeat if we weren’t stuck with ADT hardware.

    I got two cameras from ADT and they are constantly buffering. I was told by an ADT person that my wifi signal was really weak. My provider did a bunch of tests that all passed and I also got a wifi booster from them to cover 2000 sq. ft. My home is only 1200 sq. ft. That should’ve been sufficient. They said I had an exellent signal, so now I’m wondering if the ADT people are messing with my cameras so I’ll upgrade or buy their wifi extender. Not happening. I told ADT what my provider did and said and yet they still “claim” I have a weak signal. I guess they wanna take blood out of a rock, even though I can’t afford to pay more. So not happy with the company now. I wish I had read the reviews here before I signed on with them. *grumbles*

    ADT has been nothing but a headache from the time I first started business with them. The customer service is extremely unhelpful and is trained in unethical and sketchy ways to scam their customers. The prices are advertised as low and affordable until you a representative actually comes out to your house, at which point they let you know of all of the real costs that are initially hidden. And they lock you into a lengthy and costly contract. If you ever need assistance from customer support you are put on hold and transferred until you give up, and if you do happen to get someone on the phone it is obvious that they are trained to scam and steal from the customer. The equipment is over priced and the monitoring is a waste of money. Overall, I am surprised that ADT is allowed to continue as a company and I would never recommend it to anyone. I have had such a terrible experience with the company and its dealers that I will go out of my way to inform others to stay away from ADT.

    Impossible to cancel service even after contract is up. Talked to 4 different people and given 4 different directions on how to cancel. Should be able to call and cancel, but it’s not that easy. Just spend 48 minutes on the phone trying to cancel, and ended the call with “my manager is going to call you back”. Just a joke!

    I would never recommend their service to anyone. We had ADT for 6 years and the one time it was needed, we realized what a crappy service this is. All is well when you don’t have an issue. when you do, you see how well they react. We had left home early in the morning and after 15 minutes, we we got a call from ADT and we could not pick up the phone right away since I was driving but within minutes we checked the voicemail that said “Please call back if there is a need” and we were wondering how they expect us to call back if we are in trouble.We turned back home immediately to check the situation. In the meantime ADT had reached the emergency contact provided by us who was also on vacation. However, she tried to call back ADT and was on hold for over 15 minutes. At that point, she used good judgement and called the local police to investigate if all is OK at our house and had them call her back to let her know. ADT did NOTHING. Also when we drove back home after hearing the message from ADT about the alarm going off, we saw the cops and they confirmed that they had a call from our emergency contact because of which they had come to check. After the situation was resolved, we called back ADT to check what they did if anything when the alarm was set off and they claimed that their logs did not indicate any evidence of our emergency contact calling ADT and at that point I just asked ADT to cancel my services since I know that our emergency contact is extremely reliable and has come through at many difficult situations for us. The ADT representative continued to pursue us to remain as a customer for over half an hour and I had to be really firm to ask him to cancel the service right away. There are a LOT of other security systems out there which are cheaper and offer better service. I cancelled my service on the same day of the incident. I have NO TRUST in them whatsoever

    I called on Monday n was told a tech will call me about when they can come out. I called on Wednesday asking why I gotta call them and when can you fix my alarm? Today is 22 May they can’t get to me til 17 June – UNACCEPTABLE! I told them to hire more people. You can take my money but I gotta wait 3wks to see me. I rather get another security company then to wait that long.

    You can’t win, agents lack common sense. 2 plus 2 equals 4. They will insist it equals 5.. Told us we didn’t have a contract, but they were taking 71 dollars a month out of our account.. Go figure.. I was always happy with ADT, can’t understand the lack of concern for faithful customers.

    This is the Worst Decision I’ve ever made on something for the house!! The cost was expensive, it was sold by a person contracted by them that didn’t have the time to explain everything so, needless to say there were hidden costs…..READ THE WHOLE CONTRACT!!!!! While they are sitting there!!!! Faulty equipment, well of course, the service call is your cost, so every time the little beep starts you either bypass that particular window, or have them come out to replace at 25$ every time. Wait till you have at least 4 out. I could go on For Days. I will cancel ASAP end of Contract.

    The sales told me their motion-activated cameras can be adjusted for sensitivity, but after they were installed, I found out they pick up EVERYTHING that moves–lights, shadows, bugs. They only record up to 30 seconds of a continuous event, so you miss a lot of activity when you need to monitor an event. Very bad.

    To say ADT’s customer service is HORRIBLE is an understatement.
    It is May 20, 2019 and I have been trying since October 2018 to get them to send me proper bills and fix my system that is still not functioning properly. I contacted them by phone and emails several times. They responded here and there and 7 months later, my system still does not work properly nor have I received proper bills.
    I do however receive threatening letters from them. This “Executive Escalations Officer” is very rude. She never resolved the issue and has stopped responding to my emails.
    I noticed that other people left comments here but no one seems to have replied to them so perhaps this comment would remain unanswered as well.
    I just trust that anyone reading this and is thinking about taking ADT services would think about it carefully because their customer service is awful and Escalations officer simply does not care to respond. Her excuse at one time was that she was on holidays. . .for over 2 months apparently.

    We had ADT security installed on May 7, 2019. The technicians asked us, if we wanted basic service with rate $27.99, or service with cellular phone control and rate $48.99. We chose $27.99. After installation, the technicians asked my wife to sign the contract, told her it was basic service with rate $27.99. My wife didn’t read it, signed. Later it turned out charging us $48.99/month but without cellular backup, even though the contract stated cellular backup. I called protect your home to change the plan. Protect your home/ADT sent two technicians today to reset the system. They told me, in order to set back to basic service, I need to have a home telephone line. Without it, $48.99 is the lowest rate.

    The whole process appears like a trick. It’s not honest.

    HORRIBLE COMPANY

    I’ve moved to a house in July 2018, the property is equipped with security cameras and I asked ADT if they could have their system plugged in our current cameras. Their answer “yes of course”
    They did their all sales pitch to me announcing me a price of $29 per month, which I found reasonable.
    The technician comes to our house and then tells us he probably can’t connect the ADT system with our camera. Make a sign a document for installation and told us to call a number to ask for another technician to come and check the cameras.
    We called, and they told us they only can install their system with their own ADT cameras. FIRST LIE

    One month later I am being charged $55. I called again, and they said that is the price on my contract. I asked that if it is the case, I want to cancel my account
    I asked to talk to a manager and asked the manager to review the sale call. One month later and 10 phone calls later the manager told me that the salesperson didn’t do anything wrong and that it was my fault for not asking properly about the camera. SECOND LIE
    But the best is to come, now I asked the manager to cancel my account and he tells me “sorry but you signed a year contract and can’t cancel unless you pay $900″ THIS IS A JOKE RIGHT?

    Fast forward, A YEAR LATER, I call to cancel AGAIN, ADT first tells me they don’t do the cancellation themselves and transferred me to Defender ?!?
    Defender obnoxious agent ERICA tells me ” sorry you have a 2 years contract and you can’t cancel, you need to pay 75% of your contract now to cancel it, its about $507″
    I am moving out of this house, and out of the country but I still have to pay for ADT?!? I asked to talk to a manager, she says I don’t have a manager. I Asked to be sent my record of phone calls with all ADT and defender agent she said NO.

    How is this legal? Why no class actions have been done? How the government allows this kind of UNETHICAL business practice? How could you force a consumer to pay for security on a place that you don’t live in anymore? And how is it LEGAL for a company not to disclose and/or LIE about the service they provide and their pricing, and have the customer responsible and liable for this?

    Please DON’T signed anything with ADT, they WILL RIP YOU OFF. Call other companies before making any decision.

    The representative who sold us a package has not completed his job, but taken the large amount he quoted from our account. what is our recourse? We were sold equipment which could not get installed for various reasons. Not got a refund for it. Out climate control does not work after they installed it. Sad and feel cheated!

    Scheduled 3 times for someone to come to my house to quote me for a security system. 2 different technitions, no one showed up at any point. I was very calm and understanding the first two times, the third time they lost my business for sure. I called the company, they told me they would get in touch with the technitions manager and they would call me back. No one ever got back to me, I would NEVER recommend their service to anyone. Worst customer service ever, how could you trust a company that is so unreliable.

    We was told at the time of purchase that the batteries were replaced free and they were 10 year batteries. Only had the system for 2 years and 5 months and battery already needs replaced at the cost of 120.00 so don’t believe the sales representative they are liars just to get you to buy the unit. Not pleased at all.

    I’m a 20 year+ customer of ADT. We were out of town and had turned our cell phone off after going to bed. Our home alarm went off and the ADT guard service that we contract for apparently visited and inspected the house and reset the alarm although window was clearly broken in our back deck leading into the living room. Burglars spend several hours ransacking our house, casually drinking all our liquor, and stealing whatever they could carry. ADT took little responsibility and after many calls offered a small credit that was less than 2% of our loss.
    We have since hired a separate guard service but kept there alarm monitoring. For two days we have been unable to activate the alarm due to faulty contacts. I tried calling service and was left on hold for 15 minutes and finally advised that they would book service. they never did. AVOID ADT
