ADT offers professionally installed home security systems in 40 U.S. states. They do not offer home security in the following US states: Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire. Almost all equipment needs to be purchased upfront. Monthly monitoring fees start at $27.99 for basic home security, $52.99 to use the ADT app, and $58.99 for video monitoring.

Video Surveillance Option

ADT has a video plan option where for $58.99 per month, you get the standard security systems package along with a camera that includes video surveillance features that you can monitor through the ADT mobile app. Most home security service providers still do not offer video surveillance as a service. So if this is an important feature to you, you’ll want to consider ADT.

ADT Mobile App

With the ADT app, you can disarm and arm your ADT home security system, receive email and text message alarm notifications, and control your home’s smart devices like smart locks and motion sensors. According to the ADT home security systems website, the ADT app uses innovative Z-Wave technology.

ADT Guarantees

ADT offers a six-month money-back guarantee on installation and monitoring if you are unhappy with your current home security system. Additionally, according to the company’s website, ADT offers a theft protection guarantee. If your home has a burglary while your ADT system is set, ADT will give you up to $500 towards your insurance deductible.

High Monthly Monitoring Fees

Standard monitoring plans for new customers start at $27.99 for their traditional package and goes up to $58.99 for video monitoring. Those interested in the ADT mobile app or an outdoor/indoor camera, will need to pay more for the more comprehensive home security packages. The cost could end up being higher than other leading home security system providers. Specifically, their lowest plan is considerably higher than other industry-leading providers and their respective lower plans.

Undisclosed Information

Unlike other home security companies, like Protect America, ADT does not disclose how much added on equipment is. While you can see that the company offers three packages, it’s difficult to see the distinctions and what equipment is offered in each package.

However, when you look at the customer reviews left for ADT, the good is outweighed by contract and customer service issues.

    AWFUL SERVICE
    WHEN I FIRST SIGNED THE 3 YEAR CONTRACT I SIGNED FOR AUTO PAY OUT OF MY ACCOUNT WELL AFTER 2 MONTHS I GOT A BILL SAYING I HADNT PAID WELL WENT BACK AN THEY DIDN’T DO THE AUTO PAY APPEARENTLY!! SO I PAID THE BALANCE AN TOLD THEM DO AUTO PAY SO NEXT MONTH I CHECKED STILL NO AUTO PAY SO I RECEIVED ANOTHER BILL THEN I PAID IT…. WELL LONG STORY SHORT THEY ENDED UP ENDING MY SERVICE DUE TO LAY PAYMENTS THEN I CONTINUED TO PAY MY MONTHLY BILL WELL IT WASNT UNTIL MY ALARM WENT OFF AN THEY DIDN’T SEND HELP THAT I WAS NOTIFIED ..ONCE I CALLED THE COMPANY THEY HAD ENDED MY SERVICE. I HAD BEEN PAYING STILL

    Worst experience ever. I have been their loyal customer for almost 6 years. One year ago my system started to have the ongoing issue. I had SIX technicians trying to fix it, but the issue came back a week after their visit. Last time I was ready to cancel their service and they asked me to give them a last chance to fix it. I was promised that if doesn’t work again, I would be able to cancel. They told me that it would be on my file. Guess what, nothing was fixed so I called yesterday to cancel it. And I wasn’t able to do that as they signed me up for the next two years without my permission or my knowledge about it. I was requested to pay penalty for early cancellation. And nobody cares that the system hasn’t been working this whole year while they charged me for full service. Moreover they were aggressive over phone and yelled at me. I spoke with Retention department ( Audrey and Ellis), both were following just their standard procedure and didn’t care that my home security was compromised during the year by their lack of service. All they care is only the money. I was so frustrated. Never again ADT will be at my home.
    I will cancel the service and will go to small court claims to get back my penalty and the whole year service fee that I paid.

    When my husband(92) could not stand from floor, I called ADT for help. They came, but instead of helping him, they took him to UCLA emergency against our complain. After emergency examined my husband for a week, they took him a nursing home. Since then, my dear husband has been laying down without any attention. ADT is just after you money. They do not care you at all. Do not trust ADT.

    I foolishly paid this poor excuse of a company/scam artist close to $4,000 for a service that was faulty. The cameras failed to record MULTIPLE times and I was given the same token/trained excuse of “we apologize the system was under maintenance/updating”.

    This system malfunction aka “maintenance” occurred so many times ADT compensated my family by given us a month free of charge. Guess what happened during our free month? THE SYSTEM FAILED AGAIN!!!! Some vandal had stolen and destroyed our outdoor Christmas display and when I attempted to view the video there was nothing to view. Once again, I called this scam of a company and was told “system maintenance” followed by, once again, a slew of pathetic scripted apologies. This time this crap company offered a free door camera. Needless to say, I informed them what they could do with their door camera and their subpar service and requested they cancel my service immediately.

    One would think this scam of a company would say “you know we failed you, we apologize and will cancel the service immediately”. You would think they would learn from their failure and improve the service. You would even think they would say “well we got two years of that sucker paying for a service we did not provide as promised”. YOU WOULD BE WRONG!!!!! A few weeks later I received a bill for almost $55. YEP!!! They billed me a cancellation fee and a pro rated fee because I cancelled mid month. I immediately telephoned ADT stating I refuse to pay them one more penny. I spoke with MANY representatives and was given the scripted apologies MANY times. Was told not to worry.

    Service we had was fine. This is on the pricey side of product offerings, but you receive monitored service. Buyer beware though, they will jam you with contract terms and cancellation fees if/when you sell your home. You’ll need to shut off your service at least 30 days before leaving your house not to incur extra cost for a home you don’t live in. It’s in the fine print, but the sales people won’t highlight that and they will not waive it even if you’re leaving the residence.

    You can never leave this company. The customer service people are anything but. High pressure, pass you around to other people, try to make new deals with you but then add charges on to increase the cost that you were unaware of. Be especially wary if your contract has expired and you try to cancel – they will force you into something new and then you are trapped again. They continue to offer me a doorbell camera for free to make up for everything.

    ADT, Home security rip-off, once you sign the contract you cannot get out of it. I couldn’t even get a discount from the original payment. The only way I could get a discount from the rip-off ADT, is if they would not have to monitoring the house at all but still charge me money ? They would do nothing to change the price but you’re going to pay for all the years you signed up or buy them out at the full price. Be careful when you sign with ADT. Its all about the $$$$$$.

    ADT is the worst company I have ever dealt with! I used their service for six years, near the end of my contact about a month out I contacted them to let them know I was not renewing. That is when the insane run around began. I was consistently being sent to other people to try and close the account. I made phone calls, send letters, sent faxes, sent emails, in the end I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, at that point I was finally contacted by ADT and told that they would close the account as agreed. Now a couple of months later, these crooks are still trying to bill me. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from ADT!!

    I have never had a problem until today. I was told that we had agreed to a new system, we didnt. We only had 3 days to cancel without penalty, was out of the country. We werent told we were getting a new contract! Management was rude! Said we had to buy new camaras because if it! Why would i do that?! I was told on top of it i needed a new ring door bell, all adding up to $1000!!! I was transferred from sales to customer service back to sales, on the phone more than an hour and a half! Finally Corporate said management was going to review my call and call me back. If not i could call back and get a 50%! But still have to pay! Very upset!! Very unprofessional!

    ADT lost the ability to monitor us via mobile due to their inability to obtain 5G from AT&T.
    but they kept on charging us. After 3 months we called yet again and said please refund us for the past 3 months that you haven’t been able to monitor us… and they refused.

    They appear to be so very desperate for customers. After 5 years of being a great customer. We have moved on to another company who doesn’t treat their customers this way.

    My security system has never worked well. The keypad keeps showing errors and I can’t pull up the ring camera on the pulse app. I’ve tried for three days to get a tech to come and fix it, but it was problem after problem. They first forgot to put my request in the system, then they sent the request to the sales department, and I still haven’t seen a tech after the third day of waiting.

    The Company is very rude and not helpful and to get someone to come out and install is way too long and don’t want to work with you. I had to transfer service to new home and sign another three year contract and because I was already a customer they took there time to install and did not care about our business since we were already customers.

    I currently have a complaint against this company with the Better Business Bureau. I thought this was an honest, reliable service but they have done nothing but try to get as much money out of me as possible without ever installing the equipment I ordered. I asked for two outdoor cameras and window sensors. Instead I got two indoor cameras. I was told by the installer they were out of the outdoor cameras but he would be back within a week to install the proper equipment which never happened. I tried to call them several times and twice was laughed at by their customer service representatives who told me I had to continue to pay and there was nothing I could do even though I never received what I ordered. I was also promised a Visa Gift Card that would cover the installation costs but I never received that either. I would never recommend this company to anyone.

    We received a price quote to install security cameras at our home. We the technician arrived “he stated that he couldn’t install the number of cameras that we wanted and wanted to charge us an additional $299 dollars installation fee. We had already placed an installment fee down when we discussed the initial offer with ADT. This company is a fraud.

    This organization cares only about collecting “their” service fees and not a bit about providing a customer oriented service. It has taken several months to discontinue my service and still all i can get is how their policy dictates that we have you and there is nothing you can do about it.

    Pressured me into getting the system . Then my smoke detector broke and they rescheduled 3 times and never came to fix it. Wish I would have read more about this horrible company before I invested thousands of dollars into this worthless company. Can’t afford to directly pay off the contact so I will be paying for nothing for the next 2 years.

    This company take advantage and is dishonest with the customer.
    If you decide to cancel the contract they will threat you telling you ALL the charges that they can apply.
    They were rude and not polite at all but I payed me everything only because I dont want to know about them.

    Moved into my home on the 22nd of August. Signed up for ADT roughly a week later with the top of the line equipment with the monthly subscription for 3 years of $57 and some change. Due to high demand they weren’t able to get a technician in for installation until the following Saturday. No problem. The Friday before my appointment a live person called to confirm my appointment. Appointment was confirmed. I should mention I took the Saturday morning off from work to ensure I was home in time for the technician. Approximately 15 minutes before my appointment I received a phone call stating they had a scheduling error and the appointment could not be fulfilled. The next available Saturday was October 5. A month later. I asked for some form of compensation and was told they could see if they can get a technician out sooner or waive a couple months of subscription fees. I was asked to remain patient and give them a few days to work it out and someone from would be back in contact with me. So here we are on September 25th. I never heard again from ADT. No one ever attempted to contact me regarding the compensation or scheduling error. Needless to say I canceled and will be taking my business elsewhere. This company for being one of the best in the business is a joke and was a true indication that they only care about the money and not the customer. Save yourself the headache of being passed around to several different people to get an answer and then being told to just be patient only to never hear back with a resolution. My guess is they figured we’ll just hold out till the 5th of October when she’s already sucked into our 3 year contract. No thanks. I’ll take my money and safety to another company .
