  • High monthly monitoring fees: Standard monitoring plans for new customers range from $36.99 to $52.99 per month. This is a bit higher than other leading industry providers. Specifically, their lowest plan is considerably higher than other industry leading providers and their respective lower plans.
  • A long, 36-Month contract: ADT provides the installation and equipment free of charge, but with one major caveat. You’re basically signing a 3 year (36-month) contract. Also it’s important to note that these contracts aren’t too forgiving. Customers are expected to pay what they owe on the contract in the event that they try to cancel early.
  • Video surveillance option: ADT has a video plan option where for $49.99/month, you get the standard home security package along with a camera that includes video surveillance features that you can monitor through the ADT mobile app. Most home security service providers still do not offer video surveillance as a service. So if this is an important feature to you, you’ll want to consider ADT.

    ADT called me in February to tell me to put new batteries in. I told them that my alam system did not work and that I wanted to cancel the service. They said that if they could troubleshoot it from the telephone, would I keep the system? I said yes, but if they couldn't, I wanted to cancel. They could not troubleshoot it. They continued to bill me, I did not pay, since I had verbally cancelled. Yesterday, October, I got a call from their collection agency, Source Receivables Management. They were very rude. I called ADT today to complain. They have all the record of my calls and that I wanted to cancel, etc., but now they're telling me it had to be done in writing. They didn't tell me that then. They strongarmmed me into paying the money or were going to have it affect my credit. Very deceptive and very rude!!! DO NOT USE THEM!!!!Read More

    Worst service ever. Was told that I would be quoted one thing when I ended up having to spend much more. Have been trying to get reimbursed for over a month now. Also spoke with someone on the phone and I expressed my frustrations and they literally laughed at me. I will never go with this company again. After my contract is up we will be done.Read More

    I’ve had the service since March of this year of 2018 I’ve haven’t been able to set my alarm since October of 2018 I’ve called almost six to seven times The defenders numbers to have the system address I keep getting bounced around between ADT and defenders I am regretting having this service I am regretting spending money for this service when I cannot even use it I’ve called and I get hung up on I get transferred without finishing my sentence. All alone I wish I never had the service I cannot wait for my contract to be up so I can just cancel it all together and go somewhere else where would feel better on if I have a situation they’re going to address it they are unable to help at all I get associates that hang up on you I get run around and all for what I know I’m trying to use their service for a piece of mind for myself and my family but if it comes with this much frustration I would rather take my chances against the robber.

    I have your ADT Pulse. The keypad I know it’s a real disappointment to me. You can’t hear the siren it’s really really low the volume is why up but it doesn’t make a difference . When I call about the issue it doest matter you guys alway what to sell me something else to make it better. Instead of wanting to fix it or keep me on hole before you hang up on me . Or direct me to sale’s again and again. I’ve been a customer for a long time and I think it might be time for a change. You guys aren’t backing the products your selling when your making that big sell.

    I have 3 alarm systems on my property from ADT. The main house is equipped with the pulse system, second is though a phone line and third, metal shop building using a wireless phone monitor and wireless door magnet on man entry and 3 roll up doors (I asked for everything to be hard wired). The first 2 pulse and direct phone line are fine, yes we where teased with free this and that which I’m not sure what was free. The shop building is a joke. The service tech that installed the system was an independent contractor and was very easy to work with. The problem is the monitoring of that wireless system. It is basically unusable. When set the alarm will go off and we receive a phone call in the middle of the night or the police show up pand we never even hear the alarm going off. My wife had called to explain that we think that it may be going off due to phone signal being lost. I have watched the wireless phone monitor and it is at either one light or a blinking one light. I am not an alarm tech but am a service tech that deals with wireless equipment and other higher tech equipment. I gave up using the piece of junk, worried that we may get a fine for the police showing up for false alarms. I have been working in my shop and would hear the pad beep as if someone opened a door but no doors where opened, no wind to cause a movement or ?. I believe it to be the loss of phone connection, which obviously doesn’t trigger the loud alarm to go off. We have called once, but it is obviously not going to help since they see connection and that it is all good. I cant wait for our contact to be over so that I can get this corrected and work with a real alarm company that has true robust equipment. My shop is 500 to 700 feet away from my house and has expensive tools and equipment. It scares me to not have it monitored. I paired good money and pay the monitoring fee for something that doesn’t work. If you live in a residential area and have wifi or phone line, I am sure it works well like the other 2 systems we have. If not and you use the wireless phone system, DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY! Oh, they use AT&T for the wireless, at my property we do not get a good signal from AT&T just verizon which I guess is not an option, I found this out after everything was installed, which could explain the poor reception and false alarm signals to the monitor service. Hate this, just want it to work without the constant false alarms. Don’t want to pay for a usless tech to come out and problably say we need to ad this for more$$$ and you’ll also need this at $$$ just to find out that it won’t work. Lost faith in this company. As a side note, the install tech spent hour plus to get two signal bars on the phone transmission, that should of thrown a red flag in a good techs mind that maybe we need to do something different or move the antenna outside with a high gain antenna? So for now I pay the $50.00 plus a month to have an alarm system that doesn’t work like it should, not to mention the hardware that we paid for which I cant remember since we where installing 3 systems. Oh, we called on a special of $99.00 for the second alarm system which ended up costing $400.00 to $600.00. The main house was upgraded so I didn’t mind paying for that and the pads we chose, just hate that my shop is an open target with a alarm system that won’t function like it is supposed to. I think we are past our warranty period, don’t even know if they offered a warranty since the sales person was all over the board on the three systems, just saw $$$$ in her pocket. My recommendation would be to go with a local alarm company that cares about there work and reputation. Being in the field service industry for 32 years has taught me that small independent companies are competitive and care about customer satisfaction. Large companies like this one cares about bottom line numbers not customers! Get the ring system or something equivalent, at least it works and you end up saving all the headaches of dealing with a unskilled sales and service staff looking for a great commission check rather then what the customer really needs.

    ADT is a total ripoff after being with them and paying monthly monitoring fees for over 12 years we moved and tried to cancel the service a bunch of run around then they charged us for an additional month and a half saying it was “ in our contract” will never use them again.

    Our ADT system has been nothing but unpleasant: I recommend that you avoid this system. They failed to install the Pulse thermostat correctly so we were without heat for over 24-hours right before Thanksgiving. I noticed this in the evening and it was a major fight to get a technician to come out. Ultimately, I had to text the sales rep to get any action. In addition, the Pulse system doesn’t work about 50% of the time. Also, the installation showed a lack of attention to detail and respect: they installed one smoke detector so that it blocked a closet door and they left dirt everywhere. If you don’t like the system, you have three days to cancel.

    i called and was told my serv would be 27.99 and install/equip would be free. they tried up selling me which i did not buy. when it came to signing the contract after installation the charge was $52.95 !!! they asked me where should they put the electrical. I chose a place, /After installation they told me the 27.99 charge would be for Landline use only, to use the satellite it would cost 52.95. they did NOT give me a choice before i did the installation. Nore did they tell me i would have auto deduction out of my account because of my credit score. They did not tell me this ahead of time til i saw it out of my account. Be careful when signing their contract, they rush you through as – i mistakenly marked auto payment. There’s a big lack of communication in their sales. Ask questions on phone as well as when rep comes to your home. They will do anything to increase the price. I will never refer ADT to anyone. very sneaky, sneaky, sneaky.

    Absolutely the worst experience I have had trying to cancel service with a company. Had trouble getting a call through with “high demands” prompting they would call back., When I got through I was told I had to email, so I emailed. With no response, I called in and was then told I had to mail something on letterhead. It took several extra months to cancel due to this running around. This is after we had a beak in without the alarm going off, though we had several false alarms in the previous 2 months. With so many other options that do not demand a contract, have better customer service and are cheaper, I wouldn’t be surprised if ADT became a thing of the past.

    Wow…what a terrible company…they take over another company called Reliant and have no contract with me over 11 years…At first I was told to cancel the day of the take over from another monitoring company, and now they screw me for another $41 because they say i need to cancel 30 days ahead….with no contract…so here’s a plug (THEY DO THE SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE FOR MONITORING)

    SAVE YOUR MONEY…IT’S NOT WORTH IT…THEY USE THE SAME MONITORING AS THE OTHERS

    plus they keep on increasing your rates…

    Simply put, ADT lies about incentives, policies, etc.; their evil twin “Defender” is who actually sells, installs and handles “customer service”, ADT seems to be a sort of shell or umbrella company handling only billing and national advertising, but having no control over “Defender”.
    Their CS reps act like low-class thugs, are rude, utterly unsympathetic and unresponsive when contacted and they provide no flexibility in their service plans. Use a local security-alarm company who can provide far better service with all the technology, devices and capabilities of a national company like ADT, at much better rates. With ADT, you’re just buying national advertising name recognition.

    I have had Adt for years along with my grandmother. My grandmother now is in a home since 2015. My grandfather as been passed since 2011. The house since been sold as of 2015 and she has been sent to a collection agency to collect the remaining balance that was stopped by my grandfather (per the paperwork that I sent them). Also I gave all info to deduct monthly from the bank account after I changed banks and now I have a $900. Obviously they are hard up. Sad to say I have to get an attorney involved. Good luck.     I have trouble with the system, then I called the customer service to help me with the problem. I went through 3 different person and no one could solve the problem.
    Then I said I’d like to cancel my service, they said that I need to call a different department… like everyone who lies about canceling the service and never do.
    Not happy with the service at all. I’ll cancel for sure!!

    I pay 70$ a month for my home security , since I started the service the pulse app never connected to the security system , so when I am outside the house I won’t know if my security is turned on or not. This thanksgiving I was 500 miles away from my house and my plumber came in by mistake , I opened the door for him from my mobile the alarm went off , he was outside for 8 minutes , I did not get a single alert . After that I gave my pin to him to disarm . When I go to the activity log I don’t see anything other than camera sensor saying no motion detected , since the guy opened the door and went out side the house …. So I have so hope that adt is even doing basic protection . They won’t discontinue my contract , they kept switching my call from department . Now when ever I am away from my house and family is there in the house I trust in god .

    Transfered my Service and instead they made a new contract which I was not aware of. When they installed equipment, it cost me &850 more than what I was told. The garage door opener has never worked. Disgusted.

    I was an ADT customer for a bit over 5 years and my only real complaint with them was they kept increasing my rates because I didn’t want to sign another long term contract. I believe in companies rewarding customer loyalty instead of penalizing them by charging them more and more unless they’re willing to lock themselves into a contract. Throughout each increase in payment amount monthly, I gained no features or anything new in terms of my security suite, but got the opportunity to pay more for what I already had. During Black Friday this year I picked up some Ring cameras and then started looking more into what they had to offer, so decided to replace ADT with Ring’s security system (it was ~$350 with a monthly $10 versus ADT’s $60 a month and due to the cameras etc I now gained video, motion detection, etc and one consolidated suite that would pay for itself in a matter of 6 months). This is where the real issues started–trying to cancel. I called on a Saturday and was told their cancellation department isn’t available. That’s fine/understandable. So I call Monday.. wait on hold about 10 minutes, someone answers, they get a few details, then put me back on hold for over 20 minutes before I hung up (had to get kiddos in bed).. Tuesday I tried again, waited on hold for 20 minutes, someone answered but was not able to be heard due to an extreme blast of static any time they spoke so had to hang up again.. Called again, 20 minutes on hold, someone took my details, another 20ish minutes on hold before hanging up. There’s no way to do this on their site, via email, or in any other way. I ended up writing an email to the CEO, President, etc from information I found on the Googles and got a call back at about 9:30PM that night from someone in their service group, however not expecting it to be them and not recognizing the number I didn’t answer. Instead they left a voice mail redirecting me to the 800 number I had been calling all along. So the next day called that number, waited on hold (luckily only for a few minutes this time) and then transferred my initial information, went back on hold for a few minutes and FINALLY got someone to cancel my service, all while telling me how I am an idiot for not fully reading my contract that tells me to renegotiate with them any time my contract is up (fair, I suppose, though I haven’t dealt with that with any other companies..). In the end, I’m locked in to paying them one more time despite being a few years out of contract with them because I have to give them ’30 days notice’, but I’ll take that as a learning fee. I will never do business with ADT again, primarily because of their contract/renegotiation process they require and because their cancellation method is primitive.

    Pros:
    -System worked
    -New customers get great deals with many great features (not available for existing customers unless you pay $$)
    -Decent Mobile app (Pulse)

    Cons:
    -After your long term contract is up you have to “re-negotiate” and sign a new contract in order to maintain your current rates or your rates will continuously climb
    -If your house already had an ADT system, you’re not eligible for the cool new stuff without paying for it (signed up 5 years ago, possible this has changed since then, so validate that..)
    -Mobile app “Pulse” requires additional monthly charge
    -Difficult to cancel if you ever want out — get berated by ‘customer service’ while doing so.

    We contracted with ADT two years ago in November; the motion sensor was installed high up on the wall aimed at an opposite wall where no one walked. So, it didn’t work for two years. Also, my ex got in repeatedly, did damage and the system did not have an alarm history; we were told just recently that my ex could shut down the system or delete the alarm history with his cell phone. How secure is that? Then, we finally found out that the motion sensor was not working so someone came out and reinstalled it where it was installed aimed down at the floor and caught the cat moving off the couch. The motion sensor picked up only to 90 degrees; we had been told 180 degrees and that was the way it was installed.The second installer this year argued with me about the facts of our situation, told me that the motion sensor aimed down at the floor anyway (everyone else’s aims straight out so I don’t believe he knew what he was talking about) was very rude, talking over me, and basically told me I didn’t know what I was talking about. Everything I told him that I had been told on the phone he contradicted so i don’t know what to believe. I tried to show this guy how my ex changed a setting on a computer that had to be done in person but he didn’t care or possibly believe me. I finally said we were getting another company, he got angry, saying he had been “doing this for over 20 years,” and left. We completed our contract but I believe they owe us money because their system did not work for the entire two years and I wish we had never bought their “service.”

    Been trying for 2 years to cancel my mother’s security system. With endless letters and forms sent they refuse to cancel. My mother is in a nursing home and now they are calling her and upsetting her beyond words. She is subject to strokes and they still do not seem to care. Had to get a lawyer involved now to write a letter of further action if they do not stop calling. They say she owes $300. which she does not. My mother is 80 years old and should not have to go through this. Would never recommend their security system. Easy to get the system but plan on never be allowed to get out.

    The ADT sales rep. told me it was a 2 year contract but it really was a 3 year contract. When I called to cancel after 2 years, I was informed that I had to pay 75% of the final year. They required immediate payment and refused to provide me with written confirmation of my cancellation or payment. Moreover, ADT requires a 30 day waiting period in order to contest your final bill, have a difficult to remember email, and refuse to send it to you in a written bill or email.

    During the 2 years we had the service, there were so many false alarms that we stopped using it. I definitely would not recommend it.

    To anyone and everyone who will listen to me DO NOT GET AN ADT SECURITY SYSTEM!!! Poor and slow customer service, lack of problem solving skills, old and ineffective/inefficient hardware, stupid technicians. My system has been non-operational for almost a month and no matter how many service calls I’ve made, nothing has or is being done. The worst part is I still have a year and a half left on my contract!!!! I’m seriously considering legal action at this point.

    They told me I was getting 1 month free and I wasn’t going to be charged until next month then makes me sign a paper that apparently says in very TINY print that I will be charged 24 hours after installation. Tried to backpedal and say that I will be getting the “1 month” credit in form of gift card through the mail. 3 weeks later and no gift card. I tried getting in contact with the agent that got me to sign up and no reply after I mention that if I can go ahead & cancel the service because as I was told “I was also being given a free trial which I can cancel if I actually do not enjoy the service.” I’m sure ADT Security is nice for a lot of people but because of this “Authorized Dealer” aka Bulldog Security Service.. I will be telling everyone I know how terrible ADT is. Disputed the charge with my bank since it is not even my social security they used for the account.

    We got ADT in November 2016; the motion sensor was installed high up on a wall looking at the opposite wall and we were walking underneath it instead of in front of it. SO, it didn’t work for two years and we didn’t know it until November 2018. We knew someone was getting in the house even with the alarm on but there was no alarm history on the panel or Pulse. A rep told me that the alarm history couldn’t be deleted; then another rep told me that it could with a cell phone but they could get his IP address. Of course, they didn’t have any. SO, we had the tech come out and reinstall the motion sensor, which he pointed down toward the floor. Now it picks up the cat jumping off the couch. So they said to alarm it on “stay,” and avoid the motion sensor (what’s the point of having it if you can’t use it?) and I did. It still picked up the cat jumping off the couch. However, we were in the driveway at the time so no one was in the house. I don’t think ADT is very good.

    Spectrum is not a bad company its equipment is just so easy for hackers in your neighborhoods to hack in. Now in the situation i talking about the cable boxes modems and phone are easy for hackers to get in. I reside where its happening now. they want you to pay a healthy bill however its easy for people to take your information just through your internet modems or listen in on your conversations by tracking your phone information. I have adt security and they can see when my cameras are turned on and off i really feel violated. Spectrum was contacted 3 times by myself and yet this issues continues to stand. if you dont believe me i have now forwarded my calls to the police department just so they see im not at all crazy.And if you look at spectrum records i just changed my phone number unplug my phone and still receives calls where if my phone is plug to the modem but not in the phone and all of a sudden the phone rings out loud. WOw Im very disturbed, However upset becuase with the companys wanting you to pay for services and expensive ones at that, how can you actually TRUST them and how easy for it is for someone to get your information However they say its ENCRYPTED.I spoke to numerous people whom work for them and told them they have already went on the pole and the back of my house and now they have interrupted where i do not have access to my devices. They have allowed hackers to do this. And Now that the hackers have gained my information accessing all my information through computers, phones , and internet modems there is nothing i can do about it The entire street has access through one cord and Spectrum says they can not detect it I know it coming through mine If a man next door can just wiggle a wire and put in access from your modem Then you may not want to get these services Your whole street can gain access to your phone, internet, and cable boxes or even security cameras.Now i dont want to turn on these items because of the situation and Im in contract

    Worst security system. Everything runs on a delay. Key pad is is substandard There are much better companies to use. Their contracts are in my opinion illegal. The police are not called if the alarm goes off. We just found out they send a security company who then calls the police. Total scam.

    Palm Coast, FL: On Thursday, we had an ADT Installer “Anthony” arrive for an installation (because when you call ADT for information, they use high-pressure sales tactics to just schedule it as an install – it’s all sold as a “no risk”).

    The technician arrived (unmarked car and only a small ID badge can be seen), and we had a brief chat about what our issues were and I was clear that I wanted to know options. He said he would check things out and he will review everything with me.

    Later, he begins the upsell pitch, of which we had no interest. I had to call my husband, who was 20-30 minutes from home and discuss the options and how to move forward (they really complicate it… upsell was anything from zero and guarantee nothing will work to $3,000 and guarantee everything. Either case – it’s a 3-year monitoring contract). The technician managed to stall long enough, outside in his car, blocking our driveway for 30 minutes, until my husband returned home. By this time, the technician had our wall panel off. After what evolved into a heated discussion in our home with this technician, and putting me on the phone with his manager, FINALLY he agreed to put our original system back in place. My husband had to leave for an appointment, and later called to say do not let him out of my sight.

    The technician was in and out the front door going to and from his truck putting our system back in place. I was distracted by my daughter and heard the door again. I went to the door and he was driving away. Anthony left our system inoperable. We had no power to turn on our alarm. We spent a bit of time on the phone with Spectrum trying to troubleshoot. We noticed some obvious problems (unplugged our main board – cut several wires). A Spectrum technician came out the following morning to repair the system. The technician (who has been to our home before) said the ADT Technician did not know what he was doing or he must have been very angry because he fried the main board, the wall panel, and the wires were just all pulled out. It was a mess. The repair required new wall panels, new parts in the main board, wiring, and a few hours of work.

    This ADT Technician’s first name is Anthony, and ADT is telling me they don’t have his last name. BEWARE! Kudos to Spectrum security. They fixed our system no charge and I can continue without a contract.

    In case anyone is wondering, we were interested in changing because of smoke alarms going off. Usually, we are home, but it has happened while not at home and the fire department had to come more than once. I discussed this problem with Spectrum, and they are aware they’re smoke detectors have become ultra sensitive and working on how to resolve.

    The customer service for ADT is the worst I have ever experienced. At three different times since I had it initially paid my deposit for the system on November the 15th of 2018. Each time
    speaking with ADT on the phone has been at least two hours or longer from one operator to
    another and even had one operator hang up on me after stating that I didn’t have an appointment. which in fact that day I was to have an install to replace two cameras with outside cameras.
    I WILL NOT RECOMMEND ADT too NO ONE!! I will be calling the BBB Bureau as of December 3, 2018 on my experience and speaking with a lawyer also on December 3, 2018. Again, I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO NO ONE!!!!!

    Hope was wonderful. I’d been living with a loud piercing alarm every morning. Two other technicians were here a week before and could find nothing wrong. I live in an adobe home and it was Hope who didn’t give up. She stayed with the problem for two hours until she solved it. If I have any further issues with ADT I only want Hope . She was amazing in her pursuit to get to the bottom of the problem I was having and she solved it. Hope is a problem solver and saved me from sleep depravation. Thank you!

    We have had our new ADT system in place for less then two weeks and have had to have repairs made to our system 3 times since installation. The system has not worked properly since day one. When we called to schedule a repair or cancel service we were told, “Don’t worry we will trouble shoot and get everything taken care of for you” Also, they repeatedly told us, “give us a chance to fix it and if we can’t you can cancel”. They have not been able to fix anything, keep sending different techs out who keep replacing componets that continue not to work and refuse to cancel our service. They are sending another tech out next week to “fix” and “trouble shoot” the equipment and are now saying if this tech decides the system won’t work we can request to cancel but they don’t have to honor our request since we have gone past our 3 day cancellation time frame. Customer Service is a joke and the manager just laughed at the situation. We spent close to a $1000 for a security system that doesn’t work. Don’t ever use this company.

    My alarm isnt functioning correctly. I called multiple times and had support do a hard reset, that didn’t work. We had a tech come out to fix it, that didn’t work. We’ve had many problems with the system and even had a support tell us that the alarm wasnt ADT’s; how unprofessional and who am I paying every month for our alarm then?! I live in a neighborhood that has break ins periodically so I shouldnt have to question the security of my family when I at least have an alarm system. I even called for another tech to come out to fix the problem and I never got a call back to set an appointment. I need a manager or someone that’ll help to contact me asap for my families safety! This is not acceptable.

    This turned out to be the worst company that i have the displeasure to encounter on my search for a security system . I found them to be nothing more then cheap hustlers who lied to me repeatly and even used the phony “speak to my manager” . The “manager” then proceeded to make promises that they made no attempt to honor . I was foolish enough tp think a large compoany like ADT would not bother to con a customer for a mere 100 $ but apparently nothing is too small for a hustler . They withdrew money without my permission and i have been advised it will take a “week to 10 days” to return what they had no right to take ! I advise anyone considering a security company to avoid them like the plague ..

    DO NOT USE!

    USE LOCAL SECURITY COMPANY to ensure you get service!!

    ADT only want your money & give no customer service.

    Called ADT when montion battery low. They never offered to send anyone out & I have a broken back they expect me to clumb a ladder. Batteries were replaced & day later that same motion sensor failed & alarm goes off ever 3 hours all nite long & they won’t help.

    It’s been 1 week ADT has not sent anyone out to fix & tell me to fix it.

    1 week & ADT cannot help me . But they can sure take your money every month but no customer service

    I have in my entire life not experienced such horrible service. Initial installation was not
    correctly done and we never were able to activate keypad.. Called dozens and dozens of
    times for technician to come and repair. Call Centre always remarked call with my concerns. Nobody ever showed up.
    I stopped paying after 3 months due nothing was working. Now they have collection agency
    coming after us. Do not deal with this company.

    I signed a contract in July of 2018 in response to their promo of $27.99 and “free” installation. However, I’ve been paying $49.99 per month since then for the service I do NOT have. Additionally, I have not received the $100 credit and another $100 they promised they would give for the inconvenience they have caused. They caused me so much headaches. Every single time I call them they transfer me to another company, name Defender, who in turn blame ADT because they do the billing. I advise the readers to NOT TO BELIEVE they advertisement when it comes to promo. ADT communication between billing, technical support and installer is not very effective. If this is not being fixed in the near future, I’ll just have someone to call them.

    I was moving business locations and I cancelled my contract in Feb 2018 by advising ADT by phone and email. They didn’t cancel my service, despite the fact I’d moved, and continued to call and wouldn’t issue a credit for the year in advance I’d paid. Finally, after several phone conversations and emails, I received notice of cancellation, plus an “early termination fee” of almost $400.00. Now I’m told I need to complete a fraud report and submit to ADT, but they haven’t emailed the package as promised, so I guess I need to call the company again, wait on hold for 30 minutes (again), and remind them of their commitment. This company’s customer service is pathetic and I strongly encourage anyone needing security to shop elsewhere.

    My 84 year old father decided he needed a security system and called ADT due to their 99 dollar package. They talked him into almost $10000 worth of equipment with a $60 per month contract. That is not a mistake; 100x the advertised price!! They agreed to come back and remove $1500 worth of equipment but the service people leave no information and simply say it is all online. Father is not adept at online computing. He hardly uses the system because of the complexity. It is almost criminal what ADT has done to him.

    STAY CLEAR of this company!! We were lied to since day one when we were talked into signing up for home security system. I was concerned that our cats would set off the system while we were away. I was assured it didn’t pick up animals. WRONG!! We can’t even set the alarm when we leave because 10 out of 10 Times when we do and it goes off it’s because of the cats. Not only this, but the customer service stinks- you are always on hold forever (heaven forbid it be an emergency). After 2.5 years of having to pay for this service that doesn’t even work, I tried to call and cancel and they said if I do cancel before my 3 year contract is up that I have to pay almost $300 in fees! They do not honor their guarantee/warranty and care nothing about their customers except for taking your money for faulty service!!

    I started with ADT 25 years ago. They sold out to Brinks. With no warning whatsoever, I had ADT again. They refused to support my older system. Service calls resulted in system failures within hours. They ignored my complaints. I cancelled their service and they charged me for another month’s service after their system had been non-functional for 4+ months. These people don’t care about protecting your home…they only care about your payments. Stay away – far away!

    Horrible product and customer service! I had ADT for 2 years and the product was not working like they promised right from the beginning! They want to charge you for a technician to come out to fix the system, but never worked like it should. I moved and they said I can transfer the service to the buyers of my home. The buyer did transfer the service with all the equipment and took over monthly payments on their name. ADT told me the transfer never happened even though the buyer showed me proof they transferred the service. I never received anything else until 3 months later and ADT sent me to collections for the remaining term of my 3 year contract. I am going to pay it, cause I don’t want to fight it. I just want to warn anyone who is considering a security system to not go with ADT. They are only out for the money and you will not get what you are paying for!

    What I was promised they did not Deliver I am a veteran and I spent my veteran’s day having them come out here and by the time they finished not only did I not have what I wanted they waited until everything was installed before they told me what I had requested would not be included I was bamboozled And almost bullied into not making him take everything down I had to go leave to go pick someone up so when I called back 2 days later they gave me the full run around about getting the refund claim they didn’t receive the fax than they were rude to me when they came back out they tried to con me into keeping it and when they took off the equipment they My refund will take 30 days and $300 which will be mailed I don’t recommend them I will never use them I don’t ever want to see ADT vehicle again in my life they ruined my veteran’s day they made me promises that they did not keep and they bullied me into trying to keep it quipment that I did not even ask for I was told will you have a big house you should be able to afford it

    I have found that ADT customer service department needs a lot of training i called three different times and each time i called i received bad information on a credit that i should have reseved and never gotten .. Finally after the third call i told them i didnt want the service and they told me i cant brake contract unless i wanted a penalty for doing so ..why would i want an alarm company protect my home when the cant even get there info right on a simple credit … unfortunately I have no choice unless I want to pay their penalty ridiculous…….

    ADT literally made me LESS safe this week, as a woman fleeing a domestic violent relationship. I had provided ADT with all the court documentation including a Protective Order showing that I reside at the home, and that my estranged spouse does not and is not allowed in the home. I changed the passcode and was told that without the verbal passcode, my ex wouldn’t be able to access the account or change anything. Well, somehow he magically got ADT to MAIL him our passcode. And when he got that, he changed the email, username, password, passcode, and even bank account to the account and completely blocked me out of the account. He did all this while I was living in the home and he was not. I called ADT immediately, but since I no longer had “authorization” to the account, ADT wouldn’t assist me AT ALL. They wouldn’t even walk me through the steps to turn off the system entirely.

    So no, I do NOT recommend them. I will never recommend them to a friend. I will never use any service through ADT. You let me down, ADT. At the time in my life when I needed protection the very most, you made my life more dangerous. And I plan on telling everyone I know.

    We had adt Installed on Friday the tech couldn’t figure out how to do the over head garage door so to get done with install
    And get their money he rigid it to make it appear shut to arm system only problem with that it appeared shut when it was open called adt on Sat they didn’t see a problem with that said my contract was with home defense who they sent to install said soonest they could service it is Monday evening so they took out a working security system to put one in t that didnt tried to cancel since was very first day was told could not because tech didn’t turn in paper work yet customer service was very rude thinks it’s ok that you have to bypass your garage that has lots of tools in their for 3 days do your self a favor go with anyone but them very unpleasant experience.

    I called ADT bc of troubleshooting. First, i pay them evey month for support yet i havr to do the work for tthen. Second, my system is 12 years old and they have never upgraded iit.

    We go through the process, i locate the plug to electricity and notice their box is turning black, almost as if starting to burn. No reaction frim them, just a simple, we will get someone out there in 4 days! Really? 4 days!! Why do I pay for an alarm company that is going to leave me unarmed for four days! And, not even a we are sorry we could have burned your home. WoW. Time for a new alarm company. STAY AWAY!!!

    Still continue to get billed months after selling the house and moving on active duty military orders just because the street address was wrong on the orders.I understand the technicality of it all but it is obvious that we do not live there anymore and the service is not being used and the orders are legit. Also had screens removed to get alarm wire fixed and when the said the service was outdated the screens never got returned.

    DON”T DO IT. Please. I cancelled within the three days and even the cancellation process was aggravating and tedious. I had to print out the cancellation page of my contract that they emailed me. The do not give you a paper copy of the contract they make you sign on an iPad. On Monday 11/12/2018 the installer told me I could call and cancel within 3 days. He did not inform me that I will have to print out a paper and fax it. ADT can hold me liable to an contract that they emailed me, but I cant email them a cancellation notice? That is a scam to inconvenience customers. I called the tech department on 11/14/2018 because my system nor app was working properly. During the three day trial period, my system never worked properly even though they were already charging me monitoring fees. Today, Wednesday 11/15/2018 I even had a technician come to my house because it wasn’t working. He did not make sure everything was working. He told me that he fixed everything and that it should all work within 20 minutes. He left. My system was still offline and never worked after he left. Little did I know, my service provider was not ADT. ADT uses third party vendors, so I was really provided services from Defenders and ADT. So, I had to explain why I wanted to cancel to ADT then they transferred me to Defenders. I stayed on hold for 10 minutes. As soon as the representative from Defenders picked up the phone there was static. She said, “Call us back I can’t hear you. There’s too much noise on the phone.” Then she hung up. I had to call ADT again and be transferred to Defenders again. So, at that point, dedicated more than 10 hours of my life to ADT/Defenders. The installers were at my house from 9 am to 3 pm. I spend 2 hours on the phone with the tech departments trying to get the system working. A technician came to my house today for about 30 minutes. I had also spend another hour and half trying to cancel my service.
    So naturally after spending 10 hours on a service that did NOT ever function properly and also after paying $85 for monitoring, $99 for installation, and $750 for an upsale equipment charge (the initial upsale the rep tried to pin on me was $5,000), I was aggravated.
    Well, to top of the horrible experience, I get THELMA. Why? Why? Thelma was the one who told me that I had to print out an email and fax it in order to cancel. Thelma couldn’t seem to understand why I was upset. She kept telling me to stop yelling even though I wasn’t yelling I was just talking over her because she never stopped talking. She was one of the typical rude, power-hungry customer service representatives. She told me that she was rude to me because I was rude to her and that I need to treat others how I want to be treated. I asked her if she had given me more than $900 of her money and if she had wasted 10 hours of her life trying to fix a service I was supposed to provide. She said, “no.” She told me that it wasn’t her fault the system didn’t work. I told her that this is not a friendship or a relationship. I am a paying customer who has had a horrible experience and any adult with logical reasoning and business integrity would know how to communicate with such a customer. Not Thelma.
    Anyways, for brevity’s sake, I’ll conclude my review. Do not get the service. Do not believe that all you have to do is call within 3 days to cancel. The panel is old-looking (not touch screen like other more modern systems, the camera quality is poor with no sound and two-way communication, and the Zwave modem will give you problems. Just go with Vivint.com. Their package is more economical, innovative, modern, and digital. Also, their monitoring fee is cheaper for the same services. In addition, they offer a no contract plan if you pay for the equipment up front. If you can’t pay for the equipment upfront, the monthly fees are so cheap and then you’ll have a contract. The equipment is cheap enough that you can pay it upfront if you want. ADT’s equipment fees are like double the charges of Vivint.

    Shocking how terrible and rude ATD’s customer service is. I am in the military and my wife called to cancel due to deployment and talked to 5 different people who were playing games. I see why people take their experience to social media, everyone should know about ADT’s behavior. Shameful how they treat the miltary and the civillians. They are very incompetent and ignorant. If you are military stay away from this company!
