ADT has a video plan option where for $49.99 per month, you get the standard security systems package along with a camera that includes video surveillance features that you can monitor through the ADT mobile app. Most home security service providers still do not offer video surveillance as a service. So if this is an important feature to you, you’ll want to consider ADT.

ADT Mobile App

With the ADT app, you can disarm and arm your ADT home security system, receive email and text message alarm notifications, and control your home’s smart devices like smart locks and motion sensors. According to the ADT home security systems website, the ADT app uses innovative Z-Wave technology.

ADT Guarantees

ADT offers a six-month money-back guarantee on installation and monitoring if you are unhappy with your current home security system. Additionally, according to the company’s website, ADT offers a theft protection guarantee that lets you “get up to $500 of your insurance deductible covered if a burglary occurs while your system is armed.”

High Monthly Monitoring Fees

Standard monitoring plans for new customers start at $28.99 for their traditional package. Those interested in the ADT mobile app or an outdoor/indoor camera, will need to pay more for the more comprehensive home security packages. The cost could end up being higher than other leading home security system providers. Specifically, their lowest plan is considerably higher than other industry-leading providers and their respective lower plans.

Undisclosed Information

Unike other home security companies, like Protect America, ADT does not disclose how much their monitoring packages are. While you can see that the company offers three packages, it’s difficult to see the distinctions and what equipment is offered in each package.

Negative ADT Home Security Reviews

Additionally, ADT offers a variety of high-tech products with their monitoring service including cameras, video doorbells, motion detectors/motion sensors, a digital control panel, smart locks, and other monitoring service equipment. Unfortunately, the bad seems to outweigh the good when it comes to ADT security systems.

Customers are charged high monthly fees for ADT security services and are usually locked into a long-term contract. Also, there have been a plethora of negative customer reviews regarding ADT customer service and professional installation.

    I never say hate BUT I HATE ADT. From the start i had a one hour conversation getting it set up & the next week the install came. Not ONCE was I advice that I need a permit for the county that I’m in. Instead I get a surprise letter from adt jurisdictions & a week before adt customer service told me ‘yes you paid for the permit’ come to find out it’s just ANOTHER ADT charge. I’m stuck 3 & it’ll be the worst 3 years of my life. I hate ADT.

    I called for 2 months before they would finally cancel the account Each time they wanted to argue for over 30 mins The service didn’t even work half the time and when the alarm would go off a computer would call NOT an actual person so what am I paying 70 dollars a month for..

    When they finally let me cancel it they were very rude and insistent that I be billed for an additional 30 days despite the fact that I called over a month before and they didn’t cancel it then and we were billed again.

    I rarely write a bad review but their customer service is AWFUL and it’s impossible to cancel the service

    They called. I told them what I was looking for and it was just for an als without all the bells and whistles and the person then pushed me off to another group. They were supposed to call within 15 minutes. They never did. I got an alert from somewhere else.

    poor wifi service, need to change to another comm. company. Att does not provide a decent com (wifi) in my area. Therefore I cannot use my phone for security on my house. ADT should use the best Wifi available for customers, instead of using only one company. Poor Customer Service

    This has by far been the worst experience I am having with any business I have done business with in the last 10 years. If you would like to get lied to, cheated and yelled at then choose ADT for your home security. Once they get locked in a contract, they know that you choice are very limited and that if you cancel, you pay 70% of the remaining balance. The equipment are outdated, service is very unreliable and their customer service reps are rude and poorly trained. I am now just waiting for my contract to end to cancel my service and end this nightmare.

    I have called months in advance from their 30 day notice cancellation fee, to end my services May 8. I called today to make sure everything was in order, because prior to the day, I have had to do many follow up calls, to make sure they are ending my services. In which the conversations always ended with, “We do not have it in your notes, but I will write it now.” It wasn’t until April 14 (2 months after my original call), that they decided to write the date down to cancel my services, only to charge me for days that I clearly told them, I will not be around for. The whole company is unorganized. No-one says the same thing, everything is a run around. I receive different information from different people regarding the same issue. Just stay away from ADT. They don’t care about their customers!

    We are very interested in this system. Upon talking to the SALES rep and I told them in no uncertain terms that my husband and I would have to discuss this and then talk to a rep. Then we would decide. They wanted my credit card to have a rep come talk to us. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. So we will be looking into another security system

    When My 84 y/o mother moved from her home to mine she and I called ADT to stop her service. She could not remember her pass code hat her late husband had set so ADT refused to stop service, When I invoked the Power of Attorney (ADT was faxed a copy) and ordered a stop to the service they continued to withdraw funds from her account, they said they never received any communications from us. It took more than a year to stop service and close the account. ADT has no reasonable customer service and less ethics.

    After atleast 30 years of using ADT services at my business and home they are charging me a termination fee because I sold my business and said they said I was under contract because of updated services.As soon as my Residentual contract is up I will.be cancelling it also.Randy C.

    I got the security system installed form ADT and while signing up I only registered for ADT basic service but when the installer came and up sold us to the ADT Pulse. In the process of up selling the system he offered us $200 of gift cards. He installed the system and left and we waited for about a month for the gift card to arrive but never came, so I called ADT 800 number and found out that I needed to fill out a form and send my contract and $4.95 for shipping in Bankers check or money order only in order to receive the $100 gift card. And when I inquired about the second $100 gift card I was told there is no second $100 gift card on your account.

    This is the security company and I can’t trust the security company to the right thing. I have no trust on ADT.

    I hope this review helps someone avoid this company. If you cannot trust the company that is supposed to protect there is no need of security system.

    As a new home owner, I made the mistake of letting myself get talked into buying a home security system by an ADT sales representative who came to my door. I am writing this review in the hope of preventing others from making the same mistake I did. The contract I now find myself in and the monthly payments I will need to make for three years is completely my own fault for making a poor decision as a consumer. I have found my ADT service to be over priced and unnecessary. My advice for new home owners: When an ADT sales representative comes to your house, don’t worry yourself over talk of bumper keys and burglaries, different contract options, and taking advantage of the new home owner “deal” before it is too late — simply don’t answer the door.

    ADT, is the worst company in he whole world, their costumer service sucks, they do not tell you upfront all the charges until they install all your equipment, I had to come out with $800 of my pocket after I just moved across country, and besides the heavy “equipment instalations fees” I wanted the $27 monthly service I had to do a two week trial to get that installation down to $800 and after I called them to cancel their $52 trial and to put me on the $27 I still paying for the $52 two months later, and when I called them they transfer me over to defender their installation company. I never even called defender. ADT is a scam

    Had an ADT authorized sales person come to my home, stating she knew that I just closed on the house and wanted to offer me a free ADT system install. I informed her that I had chosen another provider for my security system. She went in to her sales speech, stating that the system I chose is nowhere near the service I would receive from ADT. After approximately 4 minutes of trying to get this person to get out of the way so I could close my door, I had to physically remove her. When I called ADT to discuss this issue I was told that they never send sales reps out to homes. DO NOT EVER TALK TO ANYONE CLAIMING TO BE ADT. VERY RUDE!!!!!

    This is the worst security service to install in your home or business. Customer service is the lowest end of the scale you can get. Installer has virtually no training and will treat your house and walls with total disrespect. Some installed equipment does not function and if you bring it up with the installer s/he will tell you without even the semblance of courtesy to do things in the most buzzard d manner imaginable. If you complain about service you will get a response bordering on insults. If you want to cancel due to unsatisfactory service, accounting my will seek payment of the full amount without consideration to the fulfilment of ADT’s service obligations.

    I got service to cover my business, and after 4 months, the system still doesn’t work. I’ve already had enough false alarms to get fined by the police. The technician came out and told me there’s no reason the system should be breaking down. He did replace a sensor then said everything is fine. Now I can’t even access the control panel. In calling the company again, they told me they could bypass the sensor so I just have 2 sensors but not all my doors would be covered. I said that is silly, especially since this door is a prime one.

    I went with a Nest system which is way cheaper, more reliable and also included the cameras, and cost 1/6 the amount per year. I’m still stuck with my ADT system for 2 more years, but at least I don’t have to be scared of missing a call and getting fined $100 each time, or getting woken up at 2am (daily) because the system constantly has errors.
