Video Surveillance Option

ADT has a video plan option where for $49.99 per month, you get the standard security systems package along with a camera that includes video surveillance features that you can monitor through the ADT mobile app. Most home security service providers still do not offer video surveillance as a service. So if this is an important feature to you, you’ll want to consider ADT.

ADT Mobile App

With the ADT app, you can disarm and arm your ADT home security system, receive email and text message alarm notifications, and control your home’s smart devices like smart locks and motion sensors. According to the ADT home security systems website, the ADT app uses innovative Z-Wave technology.

Company Guarantees

ADT offers a six-month money-back guarantee on installation and monitoring if you are unhappy with your current home security system. Additionally, according to the company’s website, ADT offers a theft protection guarantee that lets you “get up to $500 of your insurance deductible covered if burglary occurs while your system is armed.”

Impressive Technology

ADT offers a variety of advanced technology within each home security system package including a digital control panel, video doorbells, smart locks, motion detectors, high-decibel alarm, a backup battery system, wireless keychain remotes, entryway contacts, security cameras, professional monitoring equipment, and other smart services and products.

High Monthly Monitoring Fees

Standard monitoring plans for new customers range from $36.99 to $52.99 per month. This is a bit higher than other leading home security system providers. Specifically, their lowest plan is considerably higher than other industry leading providers and their respective lower plans.

Long-Term Contract

ADT provides the installation and home monitoring equipment free of charge, but with one major caveat. You’re basically signing a three-year (36-month) contract. Also it’s important to note that their contract isn’t too forgiving. Customers are expected to pay what they owe on the contract in the event that they try to cancel early.

Customer Service Complaints

Common complaints of ADT customers include sales and installation reps failing to show up to scheduled appointments, long wait times, additional charges, and high cancellation fees.

    ADT is easy to join. It is at best difficult to leave as they refuse to accept cancellation without arguing why service should continue to the point of forcing us to hang up.

    I was with ADT for 9 years. The straw that broke the camel’s back came last Christmas when we had a smoke detector activate due to oven pie drip overflow. ADT did not respond or even recognize the smoke detector activated. I called them to see if they were on the job. They stated they called the numbers on the call log and no one responded: A lie as I was waiting by my phone and no one called and there were no missed calls. I served notice that I was leaving their service and they would not take no for an answer. They rope-a-doped me into hanging up after about 20 minutes of their badgering about me not leaving. The next day I disconnected the land line that the ADT system needs to report to the call center. It took the all center 30 days to call me and inform me that my line is out, I re-advised them that I had cancelled service and no line is in existence so they had nothing to monitor. Today ADT “customer service” told me that since I hung up on the representative in the first call in January that they did not stop my service account of my actions. Today the representative stated that my service will end March 31, 2018 or three months after I called to cancel the service. I am taking this matter to the Missouri Attorney General as a fraudulent business practice.

    I called tonight to cancel my service and sp[ent 25 min listening someone trying to explain over and over why I need this account. I kept saying that I did not need a sales pitch and wanted the account closes immediately and was told they cannot do that. I asked for a supervisor was put on hold and then after a number of minutes later the same person came back online and started the same litany. I will send an overnight demand for closure tomorrow morning and will have to pay for another month of service I do not need.

    Fortunately, I am a California resident and the contact can only be enforced for 24 months.

    We had this company to install our security October 29, 2017 in our new home. Nov. 2017 one of the monitors on the garage door malfunctioned 3 to 5 nights waking us up until someone finally came to fix it. A month later the other door monitor malfunctioned they came out twice after waiting for days. Now a week ago we began receiving medical alerts from the pad beeping and waking us up at 3;15 every night for days until someone came but it is sickening the time they have us waiting. I called and told them unless some comes out within this week I will cancel this contract with them. Someone came the next day. The service man claimed it was fixed Feb. 24, 2018, on Feb. 26, 2018 the beeping started waking us up again at 4:08 am on Feb. 27, 2018, it woke us up at 4:06 am. Enough is enough. I called there 800 number and explained how we are fed up with this service and we are ready to canceled, she stated she will send someone out on Thursday March 1, 2018 to fix the issued.     We were ADT customers for 3 years. I absoultly would not contract with ADT again. During our CONTRACT ADT raised our monthly cost, which I found to be ridiculous. To me the thought of being in contract should go both ways and they should not be able to hike up their price once you have signed contract. I probably wouldn’t find this to be so insane if it only happened one time but that was not the case. When I called and tried to take a polite approached to addressing this matter I got no where. In order to get them to respond I had to get what I would consider harsh or rude to get them to respond. That shouldn’t be how people work with each other. When I went to cancel our service to to contract being up and we had no desire to continue it, they were rude, nosey and aggressive with how they handle the situation. That just reassured all my thoughts on leaving them and taking another security route. After having ADT for 3 years so may new forms of security came out and made ADT outdated. I was not happy really with any part of our service with ADT and did not have any positive feedback to give.

    Our window alarms are many years old and go off frequently. Very annoying especially if we’re on a long trip. We called to see if we could get some new ones and were told they would cost about $80. a piece. They have raised our rates by $15. per month now and want $80. for a unit that probably cost them under $5.?!!? This is not fair nor good customer service. I’m going to look into another Security service!

    Since I Canceled my service, They have hit My Credit Card 5 times. then they sent me a bill for cancellation charges. I just called customer service and after 30 minutes, They agreed they owe my 95.03. Tried to call my Credit Card company to Block them but the only way to do that is Change my number. Do yourself a favor and run from these guys. They are Crooks!!!

    Pay for a maintenance service on top of monitoring. Attempting to get someone out to service system is really a joke. Talking to folks from the third world is a little irritating to say the lest. Get transffered to sales when you need maintenance and then repeating same request to 3 different low IQ folks is a real waste of time. Have been with company for many years via them buying out local companies a jacking up rates. Big Company with little interest in their customers. Sort of like AT&T if you have had that experience.

    ADT is incredibly dishonest and has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Due to ADT saying one thing and doing another regarding my installation, terms of contract, and billing I had multiple interactions with customer service over the phone and email, all of which were clearly scripted and did nothing to resolve my issues. Due to having absolutely no trust in ADT within one week of starting service, I took advantage of their 6-month money back guarantee. This appears to be the one thing that ADT does right. How this company is in business is a mystery to me. Avoid them at all costs!

    This company scammed us into a 5 year contract over the phone. Never agree to anything over the phone with them.

    We had an employee confirm that we got screwed over by one of the employees.

    We though we were continuing the reamaining 18 months of the previous homeowners contract and the employee reiterated 5 years to trick us and lock us in.

    Do NOT talk to ADT on the phone. Only deal with them in person.

    I got ADT five years ago as a signal mother. I had some issues with the service. Four years later I decided to cancel my service which was absolutely impossible. Seems that I had put my emergency contact down as someone that I couldn’t remember. Also my password was apparently not the same. After four to five attempts to cancel my service. The lady broke down and told me my emergency contact was Jessica. I know no one with that name. Also my password was stinky butt…… which would have never been my password. I am all for jokes. However when it comes to me and my families security that should be a lawsuite. We finnaly got the service canceled and I will never use them again.

    This company is the absolute WORST! I am not even a customer, and I am at my wits end with them. I was researching security systems, and filled out a form on their website saying that I was interested in more formation. They literally blew up my cell phone, calling ten plus times in one day while I was at work. Well stupid me calls them back and ends up getting talked into setting up a consultation, which you pay $99 to secure and if you decide to cancel or not move forward with the service they refund your money. So my significant other decides that he wants to move forward with a different security company, so I call to cancel our consultation and request that they refund my credit card. Two hours and about 7 people later, the appointment is FINALLY canceled. They are a push sales company and pretty much harassed me for two hours when I called to cancel, trying to convince me otherwise. I took me becoming rather nasty and demanding to speak with a supervisor and then telling them that I was going to dispute my credit card, for them to move forward with my refund. And then at the end of the conversation they have the audacity to say “if you ever change your mind please give us a call.” I would rather risk my house being broken into than EVER go through ADT.

    Do not go with ADT – there are so many other options available that are cheaper with smaller contract commitments. Even if you move and you relocate with them, they require you to start a whole new 36 month contract. Their cancellation policy is outrageous and they will nickle and dime you in other ways.

    I had called to install this system, long story short ADT never called me to reschedule my appointment like they said since they had schedule me for a day I told them not too. They didn’t send my confirmation email, but they did take my money right there and than. Something told me read the reviews after reading more bad than good review’s I called to cancel. The lady over the phone was really rude, like reviewer’s had mentioned also my money will take 30 days to get refunded. I’m just glad I didn’t go through with it thanks to all the reviews!

    We made an appointment to add ADT home security and spent 4 hours go over everything and a time slot for them to come out… They have called me everyday foe 3 days trying to back out of time slot and then said we can’t be there and I have already taken off work… didn’t even try to keep me as a customer… Manager said just sorry and I want them taken care of me in a crisis…

    When you sign up for this company, they transfer you to Defenders/Protect your home who do not communicate well. They don’t use your correct billing but blame you and then submit you to a 3rd party company. It is a horrible situation.

    The only activity we ever got out of the system was if you false alarms while we were on vacation. When I tried to cancel the service they offered me a much lower rate. I took that rate for a period of time and then after several months I increase the back to the operate. When I call to have them reverse that charge they would not do it.     DO NOT USE ADT!!!! I WAS ALMOST SHOT!!! I woke in the middle of the night with our alarm going off stating the lower garage exterior door was breached. ADT called and argued with me whether the alarm was going off saying no alarms had been tripped, OKAY, why would ADT call???? She fought with me on the phone whether to send the police, luckily I had it setup to notifiy our local police. I told the operate I was scared and she never offered to send the police she continue to argue with me. I was BEYOND floored being I work in a emergency service most my life.
    When you awake from a deep sleep and the alarm is sounding, the last thing you want is the company that should be protecting you is arguing with you.
    Needless to say, I had to check my property myself and as I walked down the sidewalk I was confronted by two police officers with guns. Thank God for our heros, if it had been an actual break-in I likely would of been dead.
    We called ADT two weeks ago and they said a supervisor would call us back, they still haven’t called.
    The alarm system has not worked properly since day one, we have had a tech out 3 times. I walked into the house one day all the way into the kitchen and the system never went off even with it armed.
    BIGGEST MISTAKE I HAVE MADE IS USING ADT. They could care less about your safety and security, they are just a bunch of low paid telephone operators that don’t care.
    Good luck trying to get out of your contract, eveb with a recording of them arguing with me they say we can’t cancel. I plan to sue them for emotional distress because I haven’t felt safe since that night she argued.
    All I want is out of my contract to go with an alarm company that is professional and knows what they are doing.
    DO NOT USE ADT, YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!! SO MANY COMPLAINTS!

    Your equipment is sold to you by defender a separate company from ADT. Your equipment will run you about $1300.00 for a house with about 9 windows and a patio along with the initial $104.00 initial fee as advertised.. The more windows you have the more you pay. Shock sensors cost more.
    About 3 days after installation your monthly monitoring rate will be collected. If you don’t pay for all the equipment at one time your monthly equipment charge will be about $300.00 per month plus your monitoring fee. Don’t let them install any equipment until they explain the prices because I found out after. I told the to come and get everything after the system half worked for 2 day. Each technician visit after the firs will cost you.
