ADT offers professionally installed home security systems in 40 U.S. states. They do not offer home security in the following US states: Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire. Almost all equipment needs to be purchased upfront. Monthly monitoring fees start at $27.99 for basic home security, $52.99 to use the ADT app, and $58.99 for video monitoring.

Video Surveillance Option

ADT has a video plan option where for $58.99 per month, you get the standard security systems package along with a camera that includes video surveillance features that you can monitor through the ADT mobile app. Most home security service providers still do not offer video surveillance as a service. So if this is an important feature to you, you’ll want to consider ADT.

With the ADT app, you can disarm and arm your ADT home security system, receive email and text message alarm notifications, and control your home’s smart devices like smart locks and motion sensors. According to the ADT home security systems website, the ADT app uses innovative Z-Wave technology.

ADT Guarantees

ADT offers a six-month money-back guarantee on installation and monitoring if you are unhappy with your current home security system. Additionally, according to the company’s website, ADT offers a theft protection guarantee that lets you “get up to $500 of your insurance deductible covered if a burglary occurs while your system is armed.”

High Monthly Monitoring Fees

Standard monitoring plans for new customers start at $27.99 for their traditional package and goes up to $58.99 for video monitoring. Those interested in the ADT mobile app or an outdoor/indoor camera, will need to pay more for the more comprehensive home security packages. The cost could end up being higher than other leading home security system providers. Specifically, their lowest plan is considerably higher than other industry-leading providers and their respective lower plans.

Undisclosed Information

Unlike other home security companies, like Protect America, ADT does not disclose how much added on equipment is. While you can see that the company offers three packages, it’s difficult to see the distinctions and what equipment is offered in each package.

Unfortunately, the bad seems to outweigh the good when it comes to ADT security systems.

Customers are charged high monthly fees for ADT security services and are usually locked into a long-term contract. Also, there have been a plethora of negative customer reviews regarding ADT customer service and professional installation.

    Someone trespassed in my driveway
    I have three cameras and they only record for 30 seconds a clip
    So the guy walks in my yard then after 30 seconds the camera stops recording and doesn’t start recording until the guy is gone.
    I call and ask why one person lied and said my cameras can record longer
    The next person put me on hold and never picked up the phone again after I called back and ask why did the person just lie to me and didn’t send me information on how to make the cameras record longer
    A persons life and property is worth more than 30 secs
    It’s sad but the people at ADT don’t care they put you on hold and wait for you to hang up
    I’m looking for another service please help

    I have been a customer of ADT for 20 years. I have a windows sensor that began to fail simply due to settling of the house. I called to get it serviced and ADT stated that I could add an additional service contract to my monthly bill for an additional $32.00 per month and then it would cost me an additional $80.00 for the technician to come out and move the sensor closer to the window. Or, I could pay $94.00 for the first 30 minutes and an additional $34.00 dollars per 15 minutes that the technician was on-site. So, I could spend a couple hundred dollars for the technician to move my sensor closer to the window, or replace it, or I could upgrade my system for less money but sign up for another contract. ADT doesn’t care about their customers. You are just a number to them and once they have you, they don’t care to provide support to you any longer.

    I ordered 4 cameras with audio and night vision to be monitored by ADT. Spoke with customer service who said their would be a $100 installation fee. The technicians came by to installed all cameras and said I would be getting to burglar alarm key pad for free. So he installed it and left. Got home to read the paperwork and ADT installed 4 indoor cameras without audio which will not be monitored by ADT (after talking to someone else in customer service) just the door. I told customer service that is not the door I needed monitored, it’s the cameras.. This is absurd and having ADT pick up all their equipment.

    Worst experience in my life the worst company i have ever had to deal with!!! Do NOT call the number you find when you search for ADT on the internet they will transfer you to a company called defenders they will try to sell you a bunch of stuff for a lot of Money. DON’T CALL DEFENDERS or ADT. I promise you will regret it!!!!!!!!!

    They don’t tell you that you need to have a maintenance plan for them to help fix any issues you have with the system and want to charge an extreme amount per hour to help you fix a simple issue. When you ask about the maintenance plan they don’t give you any information about it. We stuck it out and stayed with them despite this issue. Then you need to add additional services and want someone to come out and help you make sure you have the right equipment but they supposedly don’t have anyone local to help so you have to order it and hope it’s the right thing. Finally found a good alarm company that wants to help us. So we contact them to cancel even with being out of contract they say we have to give them 30 days notice just to keep our money we pre paid which was ridiculous monthly as it was over $85 a month. But they want to threaten you that your equipment will not longer work etc etc. Guess what my equipment works fine because I own it and have a good company now. Stay far far away!!

    I sold my house after a year of having ADT. ADT is telling me that my contract states I must complete the obligation some $800+. The installation guy was horrible. He began installing without going through the packages, and signed me up for 3 years of service without explaining. They are a consumers worst nightmare. The home has been sold to new owners. There should be a final close out total, possibly the balance on the equipment costs only. That is stealing. You want me to pay for a service that I won’t be getting. Even cell phone companies that place you under contract will only make you responsible for a cut off fee and the balance of your equipment. This is completely ridiculous. Please do not use these people. For a large company they are thieves.

    Worst company Ever!!!!!! For all of you who as a Pulse System!!! Please read. When I ordered a system I didn’t get what I ordered. They put a substitute in in it place, a Pulse which has a serious security flaw built in.
    The ADT pulse system has a serious arming flaw the general public is probably unaware of which I accidently discovered 3 months after the system were installed. The Pulse system is engineered, built and programmed to alarm in two modes; Stay or Away. When arming the system using the Pulse smartphone app it does not arm the system to instantaneously trigger an alarm if armed “Stay” there is ~45-60 sec delay in alarm triggering. After bringing this to the attention of ADT and after several days of phone calls and visits with ADT tech support, sales, and customer service personnel and to my dissatisfaction they admitted that using the smartphone app to arm the in “Stay mode” does not have a “no delay” alarm function and cannot be independently programmed to do so if a zone is breached. What more alarming (sic) is ADT doesn’t have a fix for this issue on the Pulse and the only fix is the homeowner is to arm the system from the secondary keypad that comes with the system which defeats the purpose of the smartphone app. The problem with this issue is the customer is not made aware of this upfront during sales or installation. So, what does this means to the average customer; YOUR HOME AND FAMILY IS NOT SECURE IN THE “Stay Mode” using the smartphone app!
    After discovering this flaw, I tried to get them to install a system that was comparable to what I ordered initially they contend they did not have anything to offer because any other system of comparable specs has the same problem. Then I tried to invoke their 6-month customer satisfaction guarantee and they would not honor it, thus telling me I would incur 75% of the remaining contract cost.

    I EXPLAINED WITH(2) DIFFERENT ASSOCIATES WHAT I WANTED I DIDN’T WANT LAND LINE AND I WANTED VIDEOS I EVEN TOLD THEM I DIDN’T HAVE AN ELECTRIC DOOR BELL BUT THE (2) ASSURED ME MY PAYMENTS WOULD BE 27.00 THEY PROCESSED MY CREDIT CARD FOR 99.00.     Very rude salesman just left my property. He parked behind my wife’s car but she had to go out so I asked him to move his car so she could get out. He would not move it and said she had to be there for him to give his spheel. I told him again she had an appointment but that didn’t matter. He said I was incapable of deciding weather we would buy his products and services. I told him I could make those decisions with or without my wife. Then he said I wasn’t able to decide in a very nasty tone. I asked what right he had to question my ability to make decisions and again his reply was unbelievably harsh. I then told him to leave my property ASAP. His name is Roger so beware if ADT sends him to your house. After having to get rid of this as#hole and after reading many of the 2300 bad reviews I see why so many think this guy and the company as a whole are a slimey bunch of cons. Don’t waste your time with these guys. Find some company that treats you with respect and is completely open and honest

    ADT is the WORST system ever. It is useless. The customer service is terrible as well. They will lure you into a lengthy contract because they knew their system sucks. When you call in to cancel they will sweet talk you to prolonging your contract—DON’T. They will also make it very difficult for you to cancel. Just buy RING or other alarm system and pay nothing or 10$ monthly for professional monitoring.

    The sales rep on the phone told me something completely different than when the “security advisor” that showed up told me and he stayed here 4 hours trying to force me to buy his services and refused to give me what I asked for initially even having the advertisement I got in the mail in my hand which he read and then the email that I had gotten…. After 4 hours of not talking “NO” for an answer he gets on the phone with his “boss” and proceeds to talk so badly about us to his “boss” that I almost cried…. He made sure we knew he drove one and a half hours to get to my home just to waste his time and gas that he would NOT get back….I should’ve called the cops but didn’t think of That so I called my father and he came over and the guy still hadn’t left when my father left…. They say it’s NO pressure but by all means they will put every ounce of issue they can on YOU to force you to feel so bad that you get their services to the point her lied to me on so many levels when saying it was a 3 day money back her could call his “boss” to extend that policy but he wasn’t allowed to and tried to make me pay $507/month plus $58.99/month for 4 months then $58.99/month after THAT for equipment I never asked for or wanted…. At this point there’s no way I would tell any woman to meet with any ADT person ALONE…. DON’T DO IT….

    I had ADT at an address for 2 years. When I moved to a new address, they modified my contract to make it 3 additional years instead of finishing out 1. $800 fee to cancel at this point.

    I’m writing the review I’m very unhappy with ADT at this point, I just got this installed at my house and last night the system had gone off. Because the didn’t hook the door sensor up right. So my family was thinking someone had came in the back door. Not only didn’t ADT not call to make sure everything was okay the never ever set the cops, I had to call 911. They told me because I entered the code the assume everything was okay. What since does that make what if someone had a gun to my head and I had to enter my code to save my family life? how would they know I was okay if they didn’t call??? Now there telling me that can’t come out until tomorrow to fix the problems so I have to have that sensor on bypass. I’m completely not happy with ADT; and nor do I feel safe with this company at this point. If I wasn’t in the contract I would be so done with them very unhappy with this company and upset that I put my family with them and we don’t feel safe.

    I have had the unfortunate experience with dealing with your customer service staff when looking for a company to provide security services. In many cases I was quoted 3-4 different rates for the same service with the same company??? Also some of your reps are rude especially when I requested to speak with someone specifically. Also I was addressed unprofessionally, customers should be addressed by the last name, I’m a customer not a friend so why I’m I addressed by my first name?? For these reasons I’m looking diligently for another company to provide the services I need.

    Worst company ever! Lied about services provided. Purchased equipment because I was led I would get smaller contract… had a concern and told me maintenance was included and just saw where a bill was added that they “mistakenly” added! Cheers; thieves, liars; professional con artists….do not subscribe….. furthermore; my own insurance company is in partnership with them which is where I got my lead. Screw them too! USAA if ur curious…. 70 bucks a month as well if u want to use the equipment u paid for !

    We were paying for just home monitoring & they kept charging extra, which we assumed was for all the new modern technology we didn’t have.So when we called to cancel there service, they lowered our bill because we felt that it was to much to pay for just in home monitoring. They did not tell us that we had to keep the service for x amount of months, it was all recorded when they lowered it so I told them to find the recording where they stated that & that,was agreed to, which they never have.. They went & auto debited our account for the amount they say we owed. Fortunately the bank caught it & got our money back from them, now they are turning it into collections, which we are both on social security & don’t have it pay them. We were with them for over 10 years & thought they were a good company, but will never trust them again or give them authorization to debt our account. Oh, & they used another account # to debt our account when they did that.

    Oh my. No wonder I’m having such a problem. ADT has a hx. We need to get a class action suit started. My complaint, I tried to cancel I have another service now. I informed several reps of need for cancellation . But ADT is now holding me accountable because I didn’t hold for 15 min for a particular person I needed to talk with. So they want to back charge me for monitoring when ADT was not actually monitoring me another company was. Sounds fishy to me.
