Video Surveillance Option

ADT has a video plan option where for $49.99 per month, you get the standard security systems package along with a camera that includes video surveillance features that you can monitor through the ADT mobile app. Most home security service providers still do not offer video surveillance as a service. So if this is an important feature to you, you’ll want to consider ADT.

ADT Mobile App

With the ADT app, you can disarm and arm your ADT home security system, receive email and text message alarm notifications, and control your home’s smart devices like smart locks and motion sensors. According to the ADT home security systems website, the ADT app uses innovative Z-Wave technology.

Company Guarantees

ADT offers a six-month money-back guarantee on installation and monitoring if you are unhappy with your current home security system. Additionally, according to the company’s website, ADT offers a theft protection guarantee that lets you “get up to $500 of your insurance deductible covered if burglary occurs while your system is armed.”

Impressive Technology

ADT offers a variety of advanced technology within each home security system package including a digital control panel, video doorbells, smart locks, motion detectors, high-decibel alarm, a backup battery system, wireless keychain remotes, entryway contacts, security cameras, professional monitoring equipment, and other smart services and products.

High Monthly Monitoring Fees

Standard monitoring plans for new customers range from $36.99 to $52.99 per month. This is a bit higher than other leading home security system providers. Specifically, their lowest plan is considerably higher than other industry leading providers and their respective lower plans.

Long-Term Contract

ADT provides the installation and home monitoring equipment free of charge, but with one major caveat. You’re basically signing a three-year (36-month) contract. Also it’s important to note that their contract isn’t too forgiving. Customers are expected to pay what they owe on the contract in the event that they try to cancel early.

Customer Service Complaints

Common complaints of ADT customers include sales and installation reps failing to show up to scheduled appointments, long wait times, additional charges, and high cancellation fees.

    Extremely bad, dishonest company. Extremely hard sell when you buy. ADT then makes it as difficult as possible to cancel your service – they constantly harass you, demand that you listen to their sales pitches for stuff you don’t want, require you to call different numbers to cancel your home security and health services, and make you wait on hold while listening to ominous messages about how you’re putting your family at risk by not having their services. Pricing is high compared to comparable services, and double what you can get if you install yourself and pay for monitoring. Their sales agents claim that other services are much worse on monitoring, and when you say there are a lot of different services that they can’t possibly know about, that consumer reports disagrees, etc., they keep up with their threatening tone.

    This is really appalling, and the government should investigate this company.

    Phone service people are usually dumb and unhelpful. Seems to be based in Florida, which is not a state where people have much of a concept of what good customer-focused service looks like.

    A customer service representative named Calvin called to replace battery of our system and promised it was only $50 charge for the battery, no hidden cost. When the service man come he gave us a bill of $131.08. I called customer service to complain about the inconsistency of the charge. They promised to lower the charge down to $50 as promised at the first place. A few days later, I received an invoice of $131.08 again. I am shocked to how ADT do their business: NOT HONEST AT ALL!!!!!

    Absolute worse so-called professional service ever!!! First of all, they failed to properly set my alarm, so once i had a break-in, my cameras did not even record. Secondly, i tried TWICE to make appointments for additional installations, and both times, they did NOT show up. When i tried to call and find out why, My call was not answered. I left several messages and they NEVER called me back. Also, over the phone service takes between 45 minutes to an hour, and the online service only allows you to make changes if you allow them to send you junk email. PLEASE DON’T USE ADT. I WOULD NOT WISH THIS TRAGEDY ON MY WORSE ENEMY!!!

    The entire experience with ADT and their subcontractors is a nightmare. They do nothing but rip you off, do not follow through on promised rebates and every time you call to be released from the contract, they tell you another story. It will cost you a small fortune to use them as your security system, there are other companies that are much more willing to provide service at a fair reasonable rate. This is the biggest rip off I have ever been involved with and would recommend them to no one.

    Worst company. They do fake promises by telling they will escalate the complaint but they never did. There is no communication between staff members.
    They have remove my regular doorbell putting their own which has stop working and they have never come back to replace my doorbell . Their door bell camera has stop working and they are telling me they don’t have that type of product anymore I have to purchase a new one and there will be new rate for me ongoing . They are all fake . They keep on sending me invoices for bill that was already paid .. WORST COMPANY . Am just waiting my contract with them to be over ..

    I will start from the beginning. We bought a brand new house and these sales guys knocked on our door. We set up the appointment and listened to what they had to say. They told us multiple times that we would be in a 2 year contract. Myself, my husband and my mother were all there. They went through each page of the contract very quickly and did not allow time for actual review. I learned my lesson. From now on I will be that annoying person who insists on reading all fine print before signing. Needless to say the 2.5 years we had adt, the pulse app that they charge extra for never worked. The one time our alarm was activated when we weren’t home, the person they sent was here when my husband came rushing home but wouldn’t even go into the backyard to investigate. He told my husband everything out front looked intact. Well the glass break sensor at the back of the house was the one activated so of course the front of the house is fine. Anyway, fast forward to multiple calls to them complaining about the app that they blamed on cell towers and our internet and alarm going off in the middle of the night because the wind blew our garage door and shook it a little. Come to find out, the sensors installed on our garage doors we’re not meant for garage doors. We waited for our “2 year” contract to end only to be told when we tried to cancel that we are in a 3 year contract and would have to pay $400 to get out of it. The next time I called to cancel, I was told that everything installed in my house was outdated by a decade and that if we stay with them they will completely upgrade our equipment for free. When I questioned why they would install outdated equipment into a home they said we went through an authorized dealer who did that and they were also the ones who lied about the length of the contract so it has nothing to do with adt. I told the person they are wrong and it goes to show that adt is ok with using dishonest authorized dealers. In the end they said I owed $260 to cancel and that I would be billed for it. I told them to send me the invoice and not to draft it from my bank account. A month later, they took my monthly payment out and when I called they said I still had to pay that because it takes a month for the cancellation to go into effect. Then this week they sent me an invoice for $217 and then drafted $281 out of my account. They are the worst company to do business with. Go with Sting Alarm. They give more, cost less, and their equipment works.

    The ADT company is completely dishonest and disrespectful to their customers. They will lie to you and apparently they’re ok with it. They blame the services not mentioned over the phone on the employee “forgetting”.

    Also I have noticed that there is a pattern of sexism within the company and most women are the ones that report the unfairness of the company. I did not know that women were inferior when I comes to home security. It’s like going to mechanic shop all over again.

    For a company that is supposed to prevent people from stealing from others they’re stealing from their customers by quoting one price from something that was never discussed then saying oh well there’s nothing we can do to rectify the issue you can cancel in 3 days.

    I’m sure the late Edward C or Jim D or Tim W or Marc B would not appreciate knowing any of this.

    What kind of home security system is ok with their employees defrauding others? Shame on your company in 2019. I give you zero stars and will never ever recommend this company to anyone.

    By far the worst customer service I have ever had. We transferred our service because we had $600 left on the contract. They came to our new home which is on the historic Registry and told us they couldn’t put in the system due to the walls in the windows being so old. Then they took the $600 directly out of my bank account. Without telling me! When I tried to call I talked to six different people who were all beyond rude!

    I called ADT for security for my mom after my dad died. Quoted one price for this big promotion going on and than charged over thousand dollars more! Instead of feeling like my mom was going to be safe, I felt like my mom just got robbed by ADT!

    Their fees are high…I pay 47.00 a month for the cellular service. The problem is that I’ve been with them for 6 years + and they never upgrade the hardware. I’ve had the same equipment for years…it works but I would like something smaller than a toaster oven on my wall…just saying.

    I want to give them a -10 but not available. I cancelled service and they continued the auto payments for two additional months. Yesterday I was told for the first time cancelation had to done in writing with 30 days notice so they terminate my service today but keep the payment for next month. I agree with other reviews.     We contacted ADT about switching to their company because we wanted a doorbell camera. We were quoted a price of $58.99 a month. We decided not to go with them. Then we were bombarded with calls offering all kinds of deals. Finally spoke to a supervisor and she told us we can get doorbell camera, sensors, key fobs, she cut installation fee in half, offered $100 Visa gift card. All this for $36.99. We said ok. She set up appointment for next day with a tech. He came out, brought all kinds of equipment with him. I specifically said, now this is $36.99, right? He said, let me get started then we’ll talk cost. He took our existing key panel out, installed his, then said ok, let’s talk costs. He decided we needed all kinds of protection. He added it up and it was $6000, but because we have excellent credit, he would take off $2000! He would set up payments for $4000. We said no, we only wanted to upgrade to doorbell with camera for $36.99. Turns out for that price you get very basic service, no doorbell. Bait and switch. After several phone calls to his superiors, he reinstalled our old keypad. They would not budge on price they had quoted. Basically called us liars. We’re still waiting for installation fee to be refunded. Customer beware, they lie to you to get their foot in the door. I would never do business with them.

    I would like to personally address this review to Ms. Sadie B. This Young Lady exhibited Excellent Customer Service. Ms. B represented ADT with Knowledge of Business, Professionalism, as well as Compassion. Three keys of Customer Service. I spoke with quite of few Home Security System Representatives, in my opinion Ms. B was the only one that displayed a High Level of Customer Service Excellence, and because of her, I have recommended ADT to several co-workers.

    When you call into ADT to find out about their services and what they have to offer, they make it sound like it is the best thing, next to slice bread and it is so easy to cancel if you do not like their service. The truth is they lie to get what they want. After several hours on the phone, being on hold, getting transfer and being hung up on, my service is still not cancelled and never worked to begin with. I am going on almost a month now. Not to mention, they attempted to charge my card without my permission for fees that were not disclosed to me. The technician was the most unprofessional individual I met with no personality or common sense. The technician didn’t even set up the system correctly and it has never worked, I am not able to arm the alarm at all. They are strong arming me to keep them since we did not cancel within a 3 day time frame (which was not told to us when we were sold it, we were told, we had 90 days). They clearly see the calls and that we did call within 3 days but are not willing to acknowledge the fact that we wanted to cancel the service, why else would we call in???? Worst customer service and worst company I have ever dealt with. I plan on reporting this to the better business bureau, corporate office and getting my lawyer involved. I have never been this upset about a business transaction my entire life.

    I have a 3 year contract with them for 2 homes. Just called customer service because cameras are not working. I was told everything is under warranty for the 3 years, but found out today I have to pay $25 for them to repair their equipment that’s under warranty!!! Wish I went with another provider…. which would of been so much less a month. Can’t wait till my contract is done!!

    This has turned out to be the worst company I could ever have chosen to do business with.I was quoted a price,had system installed in January and set up auto deduct billing which they have been withdrawing each month.Today I got a text saying they were turning my system off for non payment.ADT used to be a really good company to do business with but that had been over twenty years ago.I would tell anyone considering them to go with some one else and not consider ADT.

    Hard to cancel, even if contract is over and system hasn’t been monitored in years. terrible customer service. Just want to take your money for nothing!!!!..DON’T USE THEM!!
    When my land line was cancelled they did not know how to run system. Still charged me for three years. I have to change my credit card to stop payments. It’s ridiculous.

    The contract is entirely too long which one must wonder about a company that needs to tie people down for so long, they must not be able to get them to stay after the first year without one. The cancellation penalties are extreme and they dont explain the cancellation process well when one signs up/ends service. The customer service reps need to be trained to slow down and listen to the customer so they can help better. I wouldn’t recommend ADT and I’ll never go with them again.

    I just canceled my alarm system with adt i just realized that i canceled my land line on witch my alarm was connected 2 years ago and not once in this period of time they called me saying that there was something wrong i was payin 45 dollars a month for a alarm that didn’t work bad bad service will never have business with ADT ever again

    the sale prep never explain for new contract new customers be carefully when you sign new contract and be carefully when you call them to fix your problem for your alarm every time they come they will put you another 2,3 years contract and if you cancel the fee so high.
