    I have been with a different service for 10 years and have never felt as if I had the level of care as I got from Alarm Grid. The other guys wanted $600.00 to upgrade to 4G backup and I would not own the hardware plus 2x the monthly fee. Alarm Grid told me what to buy for the upgrade and that I could buy it anywhere it cost me $280.00 and Alarm Grid (Jorge) remotely programmed it in less than an hour after I installed the new board and communicator. Alarm Grid explicitly states it will not lock customers into contracts. This no-contract policy is quite unique in the home security industry and provides customers with a low-risk alternative to major companies. And because Alarm Grid features no long-term contracts, customers will not need to worry about the hefty cancellation fees – in which they would need to pay up to hundreds of dollars towards the remaining balance. Although customers should note the 30-day return policy on equipment purchased.

Alarm Grid provides a number of flexible monitoring options for every budget and preference. Self-monitoring is the cheapest option (as low as $15 a month) and allows customers to monitor their own system by calling the local authorities in the event of an intrusion. Alerts and notifications are sent via text to smartphones give homeowners proper notice to the dealings of their systems. Basic monitoring is handled by Criticom Monitoring Services from $15-45 per month. Basic monitoring gives homeowners access to professional monitoring but requires a phone line. However, if your home doesn’t have a phone line then you’ll have to use one of Alarm Grid’s Gold plan which uses a cellular connection and is very popular. Using the Gold plan allows you to use any of the home automation features Alarm Grid offers.

Because Alarm Grid has positioned itself as one of the best DIY home security systems in the industry, the alarm company provides plenty of online and phone support to help its customers manage their own security systems. The company features video tutorials, a comprehensive knowledge base, and live chat to answer questions and resolve issues. Customers have praised Alarm Grid’s customer service as both responsive and informative.

The alarm company offers a variety of different equipment options so that customers have flexibility in what type of equipment they have for their alarm systems. Choices include a variety of security cameras, motion sensors, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and of course window sensors and a control panel.

Alarm Grid has a unique partnership with Affirm which provides its customers who bought equipment an opportunity to finance their systems. The approval process is instant; allowing individuals with no credit score to get a 3, 6, 12-month loan to help pay for their system.

While Alarm Grid customers pay nothing in terms of activation or installation costs, they will be required to pay for all their equipment and sensors upfront, which can be hundreds of dollars even for a basic monitoring system. Other home security companies have successfully absorbed the cost of the equipment into their monthly fees, allowing customers to pay for the equipment over time. And although self-monitoring is an effective way to reduce your monthly monitoring costs, it also presents some inherent risks. Customers who choose this option will be required to contact the authorities themselves, even if they receive an alert in the middle of the night or far from home. If customers are asleep or otherwise away from their phone or computer, several minutes can transpire before authorities are contacted. Alarm Grid does not have any local service techs and is strictly a DIY company. If you prefer to install your system on your own then great, but if you prefer to have a technician do it for you, then you may need to look elsewhere.

The Bottom Line

Despite Alarm Grid’s relatively short time in business, (founded in 2012) the company has established itself as an industry disruptor. With no long-term contracts, cancellation fees, or required third-party monitoring, Alarm Grid is truly putting home security in the hands of the consumer. However, whether or not the company is placing home security in good hands depends entirely on the attention of its customers. Potential customers need to be aware of the responsibility that comes with monitoring their own systems. They should also be prepared to pay for all of their security and automation equipment up front. And though Alarm Grid has partnered with a reliable monitoring company for its professional monitoring service packages, customers are encouraged to investigate other companies with more industry experience before making a final decision.     Very impressed with Alarm Grid. I cancelled my Xfinity monitored service and replaced the Control board and Keypad, switching to Alarm grid was the easiest part, thanks to Jorge. He provided excellent customer service and very knowledgeable.

    I was looking for a state of art the alarm system to replace my 25 year old solid as a rock (but old technology) system. Looked at every review and pricing on every alarm system on the internet I finally found AlarmGrid. Look no further because between AlarmGrid client support and Honeywell technology you got the best of the best. Their Lyric panel/whole house control system is amazing. After watching their many how to install and configure videos (nice job Sterling) I realized we don’t need the smoke and mirrors of the big company’s install fee and contracts. We just need access to the latest technology and great customer support for a great self-install system. (Dylan, Jorge, Sterling are the best) AlarmGrid provides all that and much more. If you want you a professionally monitored 24/7 system for police, fire, home intrusion and medical dispatch this system this is it. You are provided with multiple choices of easy to install cellular cards for your favorite provider, Internet or both. You can also choose self- monitored if you just want to receive alerts immediately on your cell phone no problem. Since I had 8 hard wired circuits previously installed on my old panel I utilized their optional panel that allows you to connect the old circuits to it and they wirelessly communicate to the new Lyric system. No expense of replacing them. That was like 5 door/window contacts, 3 passive infrared that I got to re-use which was great and they work perfectly. I added a few new circuits that I could not add with my old panel. For that I used their full duplex encrypted door and windows sensors that are easy to self-install. So now I have my whole house protected. I can monitor, disarm/arm the system with the panel, voice control, my cell or key fobs. If you wish you can open doors, monitor cameras, adjust thermostats, check your garage doors the list goes on and on. It even takes a picture of who arms/disarms the system and does a slide show of your favorite pics on the panel with your local weather forecast. When any zone is opened the panel plays a specific melody you chose and also says “front door” “Basement Slider” etc. Way too cool. This is not just an alarm panel this is an amazing whole house control system.

    I am offering this review of alarm grid both unsolicited and unrewarded.
    I rarely do reviews and tend to only do so for the most extreme of reasons in either direction, good or bad…
    …And in this case it’s all to the good!

    From my very first initial phone call when first considering installing a home alarm system all the way through to customer service after the sale answering my questions regarding either the product itself or setup, the folks at alarm grid are patient knowledgeable and thorough. The first gentleman I spoke with was on the phone with me for a good 30 45 minutes answering all of my questions and taking care of all of my concerns to help me make an educated decision in my purchase of a home alarm system. The product arrived sooner than expected & very well packaged. When I called to initiate service I had not yet had time to sit down and thoroughly read all of the instructions on setup or installation ( a hectic work schedule in preparation for a vacation which prompted the need for the alarm in the first place) the technician I spoke with walked me through the entire process, from programming of my main panel and set up of all peripherals. Where we got off the phone literally all I had to do is Mount the peripherals at a place of my choosing.
    Even after initial installation and setup there’s customer service is still top notch I can’t tell you how many phone calls ive made to them with random questions about why this happened or what’s up with that ( nothing is wrong with the system at all, more operator error.)
    It is rare that I am this impressed with a company’s customer service and having worked customer service in the past I am fairly critical in the area.
    If you’re looking for friendly service, a knowledgeable staff, and customer support after the sale that doesn’t make you feel like you’ve been lost in the breeze I highly recommend you give the folks at alarm grid a chance to impress you as they did me.

    HI i am quite impressed with Alarm Grid. I was shopping around to get a new alarm monitoring service on line. Luckily I founded Alarm Grid is not most inexpensive one but is very inexpensive. No contract ( well thought ). My old monitoring company wanted me to renew my contract for 5 more years, no way Jose. When I had my old monitoring company I decided to change from my landline phone number to a VOIP phone number what a bad decision, my old alarm monitoring company did not have that service, but because I had a contract with them I ended up losing my 20 + years phone number when had to returned back to my landline company or pay $31.50 times 24 more months to my old monitoring company until my contract expired. Finally a company with NO contract. NO set up fee. NO installation fee, NO cancellation fee, excellent low monthly payments just $15 a month and excellent service. I called several companies before calling Alarm Grid I was a little scare because I am not an internet expert. but I took the challenge and called Alarm Grid. They explained me everything. I signed up with them on line.Maid a next day phone installation appointment They called me exactly on the time we agreed, guided me step by step and answered all my questions, in less than 40 minutes my alarm monitoring service was up and running. I tested the alarm monitoring service again during the night that same day and I could not be happier. Now i am saving $15.50 every month and thinking to get the upgrade to cellular monitoring

    A few comments for the support team. I had phone calls with a number of your staff to assist me with several issues that my wired system presented.

    I was amazed! Contrary to the usual phone support from most companies, each individual treated me with total respect even though I am a novice in the wiring of the system. They talked me through each step with patience. I ran into a couple of issues: one screw terminal on my old system being stripped out by a previous worker, and a transformer on the old system with 5 terminals with wires rather than 3 terminals with 2 wires as I understand is “normal”. An x-10 automation system was the answer which made perfect sense once we all knew where those extra 3 wires plugged into the Vista panel.

    Since I was unsure of all the ins and outs, I asked what must have appeared to be “dumb questions” which were answered with no smirks or laughter. Thanks for keeping my ego intact!

    A suggestion would be to ask Honeywell to include in the communicator box a 10 ft. length of wire of each 5 conductor and 2 conductor in the 22 guage. I made trips to 5 stores and could only come up with 18 gauge which worked, but thinner would have been better to work with.

    I also had an online chat with a rep who was also excellent!

    I bought a new prewired house. After shopping around for a hybrid alarm system, I decided to do everything myself. From consultation to ordering, from shipping to installation help and finally activation, Alarm Grid was absolutely outstanding. All employees where very courtesies, patients, knowledgeable and professionals. Sterling Donnelly stand above all. His knowledge and patience are unbeatable. The bottom line is now I have first class hybrid alarm system, monitored, no contract, and with a company you really like to do business.     I recently bought a Lyric system from Alarm Grid. I have started using their monitoring service. I am a more than happy customer.

    I was very impressed with their staff (Gill & Frank) in helping me select the correct products by understanding my needs and evaluating my current system. Their resources on the website were also helpful for me to understand my options. Their customer service was very prompt. My solution was a bit challenging because I wanted to reuse my existing hardwired sensors, add new wireless one and use z-wave home automation. They helped me on all of these. I had a particularly mysterious issue with wiring 5800C2W (wired to wireless convertor). Alarm Grid Staff (Joshua, Frank & Sterling) quickly guessed the issue and provided trouble shooting tips. This illustrates their experience in providing remote help to folks who want to do DIY alarm system setup. I also wanted to call out on their exceptional commitment to provide best service to their clients. I had accidentally ordered the wrong part. Frank blew me away with his response when I told him about it. He said ” I am sorry, we should have caught that on our end, and not send the wrong part”. It shows that they try to take the effort to understand the solution that a customer is trying to put in place and verify if it will work.

    I’ve had Alarm Grid as my provider for over 24 months with no issues and no regrets.
    Reading Rupesh’s question leads me to point out the main part of pricing the post is missing. First, if you are going to have an alarm for 12 months and leave the country, going DIY may not be your best option. If you go DIY and you move to another state you can take your $300 worth of equipment with you to your new home. If you go with a mainstream company they will charge you $40-$50 per month plus the $99 install. At the end of the term, usually 24-36 months, you own nothing and have overpaid thousands of dollars. Going DIY with Alarm Grid, over 24-36 month brings your overall cost way down. Look at 48-60 months and there’s a huge savings in final costs going DIY.
    Using the numbers 24 months of $40/mo of the $99 dollar leased equipment is $1,059, at 36 months at $50/mo is $1,899. You still don’t own the equipment.
    Using the DIY numbers 24 months of $20/mo monitoring plus $300 of equipment you own is $780, a savings of $279 or $12/mo. DIY at 36 months with better service at $35/mo plus $300 equipment is $1,560, a $339 savings or $9.41/mo savings.
    I went 13 years with my last monitoring company but they weren’t IP/cellular. I cancelled the copper wire and went VOIP saving $45/mo. I’ve got e911 for $15/year and no VOIP costs after buying the $25 Obi box. Another thing I like about DIY is adding a guest pass code in 2 minutes! That saves me a service call! When you own it, you control it. I didn’t know anything about alarms. I photographed the old system’s set up, labeled the wires, and ripped it out. I wired it all back up and Alarm Grid did the programming.

    Can someone explain how this company’s monitoring system is rated low price? I wasn’t here to rate the services or anything so please disregard the rating i have provided as i am not a customer. I just want to understand why they are sold as low price company.
    Here is my breakdown:
    At minimum I am getting a 300 dollars worth of equipment + $32 for an extra sensor (sensor price of $32 is listed in their website) which means total of $332
    If I go with the cheapest monitoring package they offer it comes out to be $15 bucks per month.

    In total per month I am then paying $332/12 = $27.6+ $15 = $42.6 per month before taxes

    If I go with 2nd highest monitoring plan then I have to pay $25 which then makes my monthly to be $27.6 + $25 = $52.6 per month

    I just started using Alarm Grid (coming from another Florida based DIY monitoring service).

    I am astonished on how together and professional everyone in this organization is. Frank Longo in particular was patient and thorough in getting our system online quickly. I highly recommend this company.

    Even another plus – No push for extra services. If you need a consult, they will do that. If you go in knowing what you want there will be no car salesmen tactics.

    There is not much to say except this company is awesome! I dislike something about most companies (TV, Internet, Cellular, etc.) but this company really stands out. Inexpensive with a lot of service options.

    Because it’s a DIY alarm, some items can be tricky to setup. I have had to call twice and both times the tech was on the spot with an answer and helped me setup the hardware. They gave me advice on other or the best hardware to use for a particular automation.

    I also Had no problem with bringing my old equipment. As with other companies, you have to use their products, but not here. I was able to use an existing system and their support team helped me set it up.

    I was tired of paying a big company an ever increasing large fee per month for an ancient low-feature system, so did some research on what was available to do myself. I was impressed with the capabilities of the Honeywell Lynx 5200 and very fortunately stumbled across Alarm Grid’s superb online videos on how to install it myself. I found that I could even tie it in to some of my existing sensors.

    Before I started, I was extremely impressed that I could ask Alarm Grid questions via email and get a rapid technical response. I installed the system and am very, very pleased with it. (With the great documentation, Sterling’s superb videos, and the ability to email questions, it is hard to fail. )

    When I wanted to use some of its more advanced features and could not figure out how to do it, I emailed Alarm Grid again. Within 1 day Sterling had gone the extra mile and I had a great response that worked perfectly.

    I am not a large customer and have no connection with them whatsoever. I live far away from their territory. Yet this seems to be a business that really puts customer satisfaction as priority one.

    Great customer service. The day I had my phone appointment to finish setting up my service with they were right on time with the call. They have answered all my questions in a professional and timely manner. This was the first time I have ever installed a home alarm. With the help of their online videos it went very smooth. I would recommend anyone with any technical experience to install your own alarm and save a bunch of money. If you have any questions along the way sterling and his team will be right there to help you after the sale unlike the “other guys”. They ar3 up front with who provides there monitoring service in like the largest installer of alarms who out sources there monitoring to a third party.

    I’m going to share my personal experience with AlarmGrid 3 yrs into using their monitoring service. I wanted a do-it-yourself home security solution because I’ve never felt too confident about the door-to-door sales reps approach…or their associated contract commitments…(24-month +). I spent several weeks researching product specs and found Honeywell’s product in 2013 (5100 series) the best value and customer rating. Sterling with AlarmGrid produced YouTube videos easily available on a google search and made me feel very confident about getting this project done.     The folks at Alarm Grid have been excellent. I took over my panel from one of the “big guys” so I could have more flexibility and save money. Customer service and support have been great at getting me set up without a hitch and updating my setup with the central station as I add on to my system.

    My family was in the market for a better alternative to the expensive monitoring companies. I began doing my research, and was initially going with another company, however they didn’t offer the next generation hardware. I opted for Alarm Grid for that reason, and am exceedingly glad that I did. These guys have consistently been top-notch. They are very prompt, professional, and are great at what they do. I got my system quickly, and it set up easily with the YouTube videos they provide. I got scheduled to get the system registered with them, and they were able to accommodate an earlier opening I had to come available. They were patient, helpful and courteous through the registration process. Alarm Grid has since emailed the certificate to my insurance company.     Due to a recent rash of home break ins in our area, I felt it was necessary to install a home security system I got bids from two different local security companies and was uncomfortable with the price from the first company and the product from the second. I found Alarm Grid on line and started doing some research on the Honeywell system. At first it looked intimidating to install, but after watching the numerous videos provided by Alarm Grid I decided to go ahead. The videos are spot on! I had very little difficulty getting the system up and running. I did contact Alarm Grid twice via e-mail support with questions and both times my questions were answered quickly and fully. I just got off the phone with Frank Longo getting me set up for the monitoring portion and I am perfectly happy with the customer service provided by Alarm Grid. I also saved over $900.00 by doing it myself, plus another $5.00 a month in monitoring fees. Best of all, I am not tied to a 3 to 5 year contract quoted by others. Two thumbs up!

    I was extremely impressed and quite honestly, pleasantly surprised by the amazing customer service I received from Sterling to get this system up and running in my house.

    He really went above and beyond to walk me through each step and followed up with me several times to be sure I was all set.

    I’m not that great with technology but he was patient, courteous and respectful during the process.

    I highly recommend this company and feel safe knowing they are providing this reliable service.

    AlarmGrid is a great, DIY-focused alarm company. They sell high-quality hardware, no-contract UL-listed monitoring and provide outstanding technical support. I’ve worked with them the past six months to upgrade hardware and switch to their monitoring service at two locations. I also installed a new wireless system at another location. The two upgrades and account transfers and the one new install all went smoothly and I’ve been very pleased with their technical support along the way.

    Hardware:
    I’ve been impressed with AlarmGrid’s wide range of high-quality, name-brand wireless and wired control panels, sensors and accessories. Specifically, they have a good selection of commercial-quality Honeywell Ademco products.

    Monitoring:
    The courteous customer service and professional response from their UL-listed monitoring service, Criticom, has been excellent. Monitoring services are sold on a month-to-month basis with no contract commitments. Specific plans range from basic phone/internet-based monitoring for $15/month to the full-featured phone/internet/cellular plan with video monitoring for $45/month. They have self-monitoring plans without UL-listed monitoring if you only want to receive notifications of events and act on them yourself. They can customize your plan to include/exclude specific options. Billing is monthly via credit card, in the spirit of a no-contract plan, but can be billed annually if requested.

    Technical support:
    This is where AlarmGrid truly shines. Technical support by all their staff has been outstanding. They are all very knowledgeable of the products they sell and understand the nuances of installing, programming and monitoring alarm systems. They do a great job of walking you through the monitoring set-up after you schedule a one-hour block of time in advance to interact on the phone with a technician to ensure the account set-up goes smoothly and successfully. The technician will also patiently work with you to test the alarm system to ensure your sensors work properly and you alarm panel communicates with the central station. I truly appreciated their patience and attention to detail when setting up an account on a new installation, as they suggested subtle programming adjustments I had missed.

    Product information:
    In addition to excellent live technical support over the phone, AlarmGrid’s website has useful FAQ’s on many of their products and services. The comments section of each product web page is also a good place to look for installation tips and answers to common questions. There are also links to instructional videos on many products. Bottom line is that there is a lot of good information and guidance on almost every product on their web site.

    Customer service:
    I’ve experienced only one minor error on an order, which was quickly corrected once I let them know. Similarly, I had a new product that arrived defective and was promptly replaced once I called about the issue. The staff is always positive and professional in every interaction I’ve had with them. They are also easy to reach via phone during normal business hours and respond promptly to emails.

    I am extremely pleased I chose Alarm Grid. I decided on a DIY installation of a Honeywell L7000PK-WIFI-3G system and went with Alarm Grid to do the monitoring. They make it so easy to do business with.

    Their process to get connected was super smooth. They schedule a time when it’s convenient for you to get you connected. It’s all done over the phone. They made sure everything was configured and tested and they did a great job of following up on additional questions I had. And they have a many videos and tutorials that were extremely helpful for the DIY user.

The customer service is truly amazing – Alarm Grid walked me through everything step-by-step during initial setup – and during tweaks that I’ve made to my system since then. The monitoring is top notch, prompt, and very reliable. The pricing is also very fair – they even look for ways to save you money!     I bought and installed a Lynx 7000 from AG about 6 months ago. The whole sales, installation, support, and follow up was outstanding. It’s such a pleasure to call them and get a real person on the line. On one occasion I had a question that needed to be refered to someone. I was told that I would hear back from “Frank” before closing and guess what… Yup as promised Frank got ahold of me. That is pretty rare these days. I have had a few occasions to reach out to Sterling had he has always been friendly, courteous and professional. He is always willing to help DYI’ers
    So, this past weekend, for the first time in my life we had a legitimate break in at 00:05 Saturday morning. We were out of town. But the alarm and monitoring service performed flawlessly. From the video feed after the fact we could see the “Perp” approach the front door and ring the door bell multiple times then run to the back of the house. He gained entry buy prying/ bending a 6’x2′ sliding window panel. Of course that triggered the alarm. The sensor trip sequence was, window, LR motion, FR motion, back door. The central station reached me on my cell and dispatched the local police.
    Amazingly, nothing was taken. I can only assume that with the siren blasting the burgler decided not to stick around.

By following his online instructions/videos, purchasing a few products and getting his email/phone advice, we were able to remotely reconfigure my inherited Honeywell Alarm system.     After several frustrating calls to other companies seeking answers to my questions about converting my existing hard-wired / telco-based system to a new IP-based system, AlarmGrid patiently and accurately guided me in the right direction. They didn’t try to sell me the moon and the stars, either.

    I received my new components quickly and had no trouble getting them installed. Then their tech support wizard remotely configured my system with nary a hitch. She was extremely knowledgable and it all was done in about a half hour.

    Within the two weeks worth of DIY Security System setup that I have been engaged in with Alarm Grid thus far, Alarm Grid has done a phenomenal job at providing the necessary steps to complete a successful DIY setup. This is coming from an IT professional that has been on both ends of the spectrum when it comes to putting together documentation of project requirements and functional designs as well as following and developing solutions per technical specs. I find the video tutorials by Sterling, the FAQ’s, and the accessible manuals on the website extremely helpful. And I truly appreciate their approach to running their business. They don’t hold back information and they are very detailed in delivering the important instructions. Almost every hiccup I encountered during my DIY setup, I was able to find the solution and the how to on the Alarm Grid website.

    Alarmgrid is the best. I tried them out with a new system at a vacation home. I was so happy with their knowledge and service that I wanted to switch from ADT to them in my primary residence. Again, they were exceptionally knowledgeable, guiding me as to what to order to transform my ADT Vista 20P panel to use with Total Connect/Alarm Grid. The process went flawlessly.

    By the way, the agents are very well trained. I had to do some special programming on my system and they told me exactly what to do as if they’ve been through it a million times.

    This company is the real deal. I’m very happy! Highly recommended!

    Been with Alarm Grid for over a year now. Top notch customer service and their online video instruction is great. I’ve had to contact them a coupe times with questions and have been shocked to get a call each time within minutes. They have been very helpful and are knowledgable about products and what I was trying to do. They also explain things in plan language so anyone can understand. They couldn’t have made it any easier and I feel like an expert now.

    Sterling has always been responsive and friendly but so has everyone else I’ve had contact with. Because of their help and instruction, I have expanded my system to include more sensors and feel comfortable doing so.

    The Honeywell L5100 system is easy to use and monitoring with my mobile device (iPhone/iPad) couldn’t be any easier. I receive text and email instantly and can monitor just about everything going on at our property in another state.

    I 100% recommended the company to friends and family. They understand their customers focus on the customers needs first.
