#1 — Vivint

Vivint Smart Home Logo

Cost

Vivint offers three different monthly monitoring packages ranging between $29.99 and $49.99 per month. They also allow you to either purchase all the equipment upfront or finance it for an additional monthly cost. Because of this, there is an option to have no initial cost and start paying for the monitoring features and equipment monthly after installation.

Contract

You can either have a month-to-month or a 5-year contract with Vivint.

If you decide to purchase all the equipment for your security system upfront, you will have a month-to-month contract. This means that you can cancel your monitoring package at any time with no additional fees or penalties.

If you decide to finance the equipment at a monthly cost after installation, you will have a 5-year contract. In order to cancel your monitoring package in this type of contract, you will need to pay the remaining balance.

Warranty

Vivint has a limited lifetime equipment warranty, meaning that while they will fix loyal customers’ defective equipment and cover natural wear and tear on security devices, 120 days after installation you will be responsible for additional service fees.

Installation Options

Vivint home security equipment is installed by professional technicians. There are DIY options offered through authorized Vivint dealers.

Home Security Technology

Vivint also offers a home automation system through various smart home products. This system is compatible with the Google Home and both the Amazon Alexa and Echo.

The SkyControl Panel can be used to control the smart home devices, and it can also communicate directly with Vivint representatives, so you can have immediate assistance if necessary.

When homeowners are away from their home, the Vivint Smart Home app allows them to remotely control their smart security devices.

#2 — Cove

Cove Logo

Cost

Price of equipment varies based on which devices you choose and how large your home is. You need to pay for the equipment upfront and then you can choose a monitoring package. Cove has two monthly monitoring options: Cove Basic is $17.99/month and Cove Plus is $27.99/month.

Contract

Because you must purchase equipment upfront, you will not enter into a contract with Cove. Customers can cancel their monthly monitoring any time.

In fact, Cove offers a 60-day trial. If after those 60 days you are not satisfied with the security system, you can return it and receive a refund.

Warranty

The Cove Basic plan includes a 1-year equipment warranty, and the Cove Plus plan includes a lifetime equipment warranty.

Installation Options

Cove prices are so affordable, because they offer a great DIY option. They understand that it can be frustrating to coordinate a professional installation, so they’ve created guides and videos to help install the security system yourself. Customers have praised Cove for the easy DIY installation.

If you are nervous about installing the security system yourself, they offer a professional installation option through HelloTech. This does include an installation fee.

Home Security Technology

Homeowners can control their system through the Cove Touch Alarm Panel. This device can be purchased upfront with the other equipment.

In case of an emergency or a security breach, Cove can notify homeowners within 30 seconds through the Cove InstaText feature. Homeowners can also contact Cove representatives at any time through Cove Live Assist. Both of these features are available through the Cove Basic and Cove Plus monitoring packages.

#3 — Frontpoint

Frontpoint Logo

Cost

Frontpoint has several different equipment bundles ranging from $392.40 to $797.88, but you can also create your own security system. The initial hub and keypad are $228.74, and from there you can buy each device individually. If you can’t pay upfront, they allow you to make monthly payments overtime.

There is one monitoring plan to last the entire contract for $49.99/month.

Contract

A contract with Frontpoint lasts 36 months.

Before entering the contract, there is a 30-day trial. If you are not satisfied with the security system after those 30 days, you’ll receive a refund.

Warranty

Frontpoint’s security systems come with a 3-year limited warranty.

Installation Options

Frontpoint is a DIY system, and customers have attested to how easy the installation is. The system will be configured to your home before it is sent to you.

If you have questions while setting up your system, professionals are available to call and ask questions.

Home Security Technology

Certain monitoring plans include the Frontpoint app, which allows you to control the alarm system remotely.
