About North Carolina
North Carolina is currently one of the fastest growing states in the nation, averaging nearly 150,000 new residents each year.
With the surge in population that comes mainly from transplants from other states and countries, North Carolina recently became the 10th most populous state in the union with around 9 million people.
North Carolina is known for offering residents a high quality of life with a mild climate, coastal plains in the east, and the Appalachian Mountains in the west.
Although the population is growing, the state still offers residents affordable real estate opportunities.
For example, of the five largest cities in the state only Raleigh has a median home value higher than the national average, Durham, Greensboro, Charlotte, and Winston Salem house prices are significantly lower.
The North Carolina crime rate is higher than the national average crime rate, coming in at number 32 on the USA.com crime index rankings.
While they have lower rates of violent crimes, such as lower rape, robbery, and assault rates, they have much higher rates of property crime which includes burglary, theft, and motor vehicle theft.
