About Oklahoma
In 1834 Oklahoma was set aside as Indian territory and Oklahoma territory, then in 1907 the two were combined to make a new state.
Since its inceptions oil has played a major role in making the state rich. However, since that time natural-gas has surpassed it in terms of total revenues.
Other important industries to the state are meat packing, food processing, oil refining, and machinery manufacturing.
Recently, Oklahoma was hit by an enormous category 5 tornado which flattened several cities and killed 25 people. The tornado was on the ground for 40 minutes and had wind speeds that reached 210 mph.
The Oklahoma crime rate is higher than the national average and the capital of the state, Oklahoma City has a crime rate that is almost double the national average.
As a state they have higher rates of violent and property crimes than other states and lower rates of hate crimes and crimes per square mile.
