Vector Security has been providing both home and business security solutions for over 40 years. The company has taken home several awards for its equipment and service, including the 2015 Dealer of the Year award from SDM Magazine. The company provides a number of home security and home automation devices at zero money down, and promotes both positive and negative customer reviews on its site; however, Vector security is also much more expensive than industry leaders, and its limited availability and poor customer service may prevent the company from being the first choice in home security.

Vector Security provides regional and national security monitoring services to both individual and business clients through the use of landline and cellular monitoring systems. These systems ensure that service is never lost due to technical issues with phone lines or the power grid. This company has also been recognized nationally for its false alarms protocols which greatly reduce expense for homeowners and authorities alike. Furthermore, the company offers extensive educational resources through their online site to assist customers with a wide variety of security issues and technical questions.

In addition to some impressive home security features, Vector Security also provides automated devices that can be controlled by a mobile app. Customers can monitor and control lighting, appliances, locks, and cameras. Vector Security’s CloudControl feature allows customers to save recorded security camera footage to a cloud account. Other home security companies may require you to save videos to a personal computer, or another location with much more limited memory. And as Vector Security provides professional installation, the fact that it charges zero upfront or installation costs is noteworthy.

Vector Security features a number of actual user reviews on its website through a third-party service called Trustpilot. While a majority of the reviews are quite positive, Vector Security also features some negative user reviews as well. While we cannot necessarily confirm the authenticity of these reviews or the relationship between Vector Security and Trustpilot, this effort to promote honest user reviews at least demonstrates Vector Security’s recognition of the importance of online reviews.

Vector Security’s monthly monitoring fee is much more expensive than other home security companies, and its starting package costs nearly twice as much as that of our top company. Vector Security requires customers to sign up for a 36-month contract, while other companies provide much shorter contracts or no contracts at all. And if customers desire to cancel their services before the contract expires, they will be required to pay 100% of the remaining balance, which could potentially cost hundreds of dollars. Other companies only require 20% to 80% of the balance. Vector Security has licenses in only 32 states, while top home security companies boast a nationwide presence.

Vector Security consistently has problems with customer service. These problems stem from personal accounts and not from the business or national accounts. As such, it would appear that the company is far more concerned with major accounts than with the individual customer.

The Bottom Line

Customers should be comfortable trusting their home security needs to Vector Security. The company keeps to industry standards in terms of equipment, home automation capability, and monitoring options. And the fact that Vector is promoting both positive and negative reviews on its website is a solid attempt at online transparency, which few home security companies truly achieve. Unfortunately, Vector security is also considerably more expensive than other home security companies, and the number and variety of customer complaints suggest that customers may not receive the attention or responsiveness they need. Customers are strongly encouraged to investigate other home security companies with better customer service before making a final decision.

    Vector security has continued to harass me even after the sale of my home, continued to draw out of my account post sale and has continued to go after me for payments even after I closed the bank account. They refuse to close the account and are now going to collections.

    Another fun fact after the original service closed I just recently found out that Vector security and Safe security were both billing me for monitoring of the house.

    I would not recommend this service.

    We chose Vector out of several security companies because we were happy with the sales pitch. We used the service for 3 months before my husband was transferred to a different city. We currently live in an apartment and asked for consideration in canceling the ‘contract’ due to a transfer. They offered no viable solution so we continue to pay a monthly fee for absolutely nothing. We requested a disconnection of service, yet we continue getting calls from the company advising that they are showing a problem with connection at our precious home, which was sold in December. We are getting calls every 3 days and sometimes even after midnight. They are a pathetic company that offers very poor customer service. And in a city that is home to a plethora of security companies, all that truly matters is the customer service offered. We will not live in an apartment forever, and when we do own a home again we will certainly not be calling on Vector Security for services.

    We signed up for a 3 year contract, and were not made aware of their ridiculous ‘must cancel 30 days prior to end of contract via written notice’ termination clause. We were automatically renewed for another year without our knowledge or approval.

    We then tried to follow the policy, by submitting our cancellation notice, and they outright disconnected/terminated our service IMMEDIATELY, then sent us a bill for $400 for the rest of the year, WITH NO SERVICES RENDERED.

    I spoke with a couple of people, and even offered to pay monthly, as long as we were getting something for our money, but they refused, telling me that I’d have to pay $99 to re-instate the service, plus whatever the service call cost to hook up the hardware again (even though nothing has been disconnected physically).

    So even though we followed their policy, and had every intention of following through on a 4th year of month-to-month service we didn’t even want, Vector was completely unwilling to work with a customer who had satisfied the terms of their 3 year original contract, and paid on time for 36 months straight.

    The CSR my wife spoke with (when she originally tried to end our services) was unhelpful at best, and completely unresponsive during the call at times. The customer service people were rude, abrasive, talked over me at times, and offered no support for a resolution other than “pay us”. After demanding to speak with a supervisor or manager, I was offered an arbitrary 25% discount on the remaining balance (again, for NO SERVICE RENDERED!!), which I took. $300 to wash my hands of this dishonest company seemed like a better deal than $400 to do the exact same thing.

    I strongly suggest you avoid doing business with companies that pull shady moves like this. I have already lodged a complaint with the BBB (even though Vector is not accredited with them), and am also putting up negative reviews wherever I can. I am also going to discuss this matter with everyone in my development displaying a Vector Security sign and advise them to dump Vector as soon as they are able.

    Had my system for 13 years now. This past year I upgraded and now am connected to my home no matter where I am. Being able to view my cameras and unlock my doors to allow my pet sitter in is awesome. I have complete control turning on lights and controlling my thermostates is an option I don’t know how I lived without. The employees really care and listen to your needs to customize a system that fits your life style.

    All I wanted to do was use the z wave capability of the alarm system. I did not need there controller to be my home automation controller just a secondary controller. First they told me it was impossible and it couldn’t be done, I’m an electrical contractor that does it every day so I know that was a lie. Then I offered to pay more money a month just for them to turn on the Z-Wave and they told be that could not be done either that my contract cannot be changed for good or bad. They were very rude. Then I asked how many more months do I have in the contract and they told me 12 so I said I would like to buy out the rest but then they told me okay it would be full monthly price times 12. That is crazy but honestly at this point I might actually do that. The worst part is the salesman at sign me up for this crap was a good friend of mine LOL just goes to show you you can’t even trust your friends. Also I should have read the contract I had no idea it was for 3 years. I had the Bare Bones security system no automation from them can’t even disarm it or arm it from my phone and I’m still paying $44.95 a month

    Vector Security sends a guy to my door a year ago to convince me to switch and never mentions that it’s a 5 year contract that I would have to buy out if I cancel early. NEVER use these people. I should have stayed with ADT. Vector are scammers. I am happy to pay for equipment if I was leasing or doing monthly payments on them but to ask me to pay almost $2k for literally NOTHING is utter BS. I even told the guy that was sitting at my kitchen table that I was thinking about moving in a year or two. Stick with ADT, because Vector Security, Inc. are just scammers wanting your $$.

    I had vector for 7 years. Never had any serious issues. Had one sensor malfunction and they replaced it right away. When I moved, since my contract was fulfilled, I only had to give 30 days notice. No hassles. I have been reviewing other security companies just to see the latest tech. Thinking about signing up with Vector again.

    Customer for 4 to 5 years.. I did not have the 18$ to complete my payment and vector would not give me assess to my Security app. BLOCKED IT. Customer service agent insist that I would have to pay the 18$ before I could regain use of the app. Very disappointed. What about customer loyalty to the company?

    After years of having this expensive system, when I had a power outage, it failed to work, which was disturbing. It did continue to beep every 30 minutes even after making a dozen calls over following week trying to get instructions to make it stop. I called to discontinue service and was told I had to do it in writing, which I did, the beeping continued.
    After 10 days I finally got someone to give me information on how to power it down which was a complicated process which I did, and was told they would call me back that afternoon to check on things, they never called, and the beeping continue Beeping! The worst service and customer service I have ever experienced.

    I called to cancel my service due to the poor quality of the system and the customer service. I was with this company because the sales person was persistent in my neighborhood. I got faulty equipment in which they came out numerous times to fix and yet it still persisted. They then began telling me it was a battery issue and that they would charge 100.00 a visit to fix it. This company is a rip off!!!! Please stay away!!! Now that i am calling unbeknown to me they are saying that my contract auto renews and that they will bill me for the remainder.. I will not pay and I will fight this! This will be my first of may reviews for Vector.

    The salespeople should be selling timeshares they are pushy and leave out details about the contracts. They try to make cancelllation a major problem and don’t want to take” No” for an answer. They will tell that your contract is for three years but will fail to tell you that after three years it became a year to year contract; so read paragraph three very carefully. I’m just glad to be rid of them even if I had to pay $150 for nothing.

    Plesae read your contract if you are planning to change from victor. When i had victor installed i was told that i would be under a 5 year contract but i could get out of it at any time. I had victir for 7 years and 5 months and never missed a payment. . I was thinking of changing and had made that comment to them several times. I had ADT installed in December and called victor to tell victor to discontinue my service. I was then informed I was still under contract. Seems the contract is automatically renewed for a year every time it runs out. No one bothered to tell me this when I informed them I was planning to change. They expected me to pay for services I am not receiving through August 2018. I received a call from a collection agency today. When i told him that I was not informed that the contract would automatically renew and that I could cancell at any time, he told me that is how sales men are. I was informed I should get a lawyer. I have excellent credit. All debts are played on time or before. I DO NOT feel this is a debt owed. All of this has been said to make you aware that after 5 years you are still under contract whether you know it or not. Also they condone misleading salesmen.

    I had two accounts with vector security. I could not upgrade my phone system with out expensive upgrade to my security system. Sent two letters one for each account to cancel the services at the same time to the same mailing address. They cancelled one account and did not cancel the other. They did not notify me and now they are holding me hostage for a year before I can cancel again. Do not buy their service. I have discussed this with several people that answer the phone at their locations with out success.

    Terrible, My phone service went down and is always sketchy so i decided to cancel service and cant get a good cell signal to get security to work so had to cancel vector with 9 months remaining that they will not have to provide service. this was out of my control so you would think they would cut me a break seeing as i had the service for about 6 years and would have went back once my phone issues were cleared up. Never again

    We replaced ADT with Vector 2 years ago because of bad service. The Vector West Palm Beach representative/ installer was a nice guy with huge personal problems and couldn’t give any followup service. Yup, he went out of business.

    Our new Vector person, Danny, is all the way down in Plantation, an hour away, yet is very knowledgeable, responsive and helpful. Unfortunately, we have had him here on service calls numerous times because of faulty signals and equipment. Issues from the alarm not disengaging when door lock key pad is used to thermostat running a muck and cameras blacking out. All items they installed.

    The monitoring service and call center are excellent and very responsive.
    We are now looking for a new provider because I cant worry about the system not working for me, baby sitter or cleaning people.

    We have had Vector security for our very large home for 16 months now. The sales rep was informative and listened to our concerns. We built the system together without him trying to sell unneeded components. The wifi signal in our very old and large home was difficult to connect to so they added repeaters which have worked flawlessly for a year now. If we have an issue customer service is quick to respond and a tech is sent within 2 to 3 day if it is not an emergency. Vector has been outstanding to work with for our home security needs.

    Absolutely hands down the worst security company I have ever dealt with. The customer service staff is so unprofessional and rude. I really believe the devices are just props. My doorbell camera will send 75+ notifications for one incident ie. motion or ring. The customer service( if that’s what you want to call them) says to me “so you don’t want to receive notifications on your phone?” Ummm… I would love to receive notifications just not 75 of them for one ring or motion. Driveway camera does not pick up motion. As a matter of fact someone broke into my husbands truck and when we checked the cameras, it showed nothing. Poor equipment, poor monitoring and poor customer service. Do yourself a favor and don’t go with them.

    Complete waste of money. It’s $49.99 for 36 months then they slightly lower the price to 39.99. Do yourself a favor and go with simply safe or some other company. Don’t fall for the sales pitch. Yeah they monitor your statement but so do other companies for alot less.
