Vector Security has been providing both home and business security solutions for over 40 years. The company has taken home several awards for its equipment and service, including the 2015 Dealer of the Year award from SDM Magazine. The company provides a number of home security and home automation devices at zero money down, and promotes both positive and negative customer reviews on its site; however, Vector security is also much more expensive than industry leaders, and its limited availability and poor customer service may prevent the company from being a first choice in home security.

Vector Security provides regional and national security monitoring services to both individual and business clients through the use of landline and cellular monitoring systems. These systems ensure that service is never lost due to technical issues with phone lines or the power grid. This company has also been recognized nationally for its false alarms protocols which greatly reduce expense for homeowners and authorities alike. Furthermore, the company offers extensive educational resources through their online site to assist customers with a wide variety of security issues and technical questions.

In addition to some impressive home security features, Vector Security also provides automated devices that can be controlled through a mobile app. Customers can monitor and control lighting, appliances, locks, and cameras. Vector Security’s CloudControl feature allows customers to save recorded security camera footage to a cloud account. Other home security companies may require you to save videos to a personal computer, or another location with much more limited memory. And as Vector Security provides professional installation, the fact that it charges zero upfront or installation costs is noteworthy.

Vector Security features a number of actual user reviews on its website through a third-party service called Trustpilot. While a majority of the reviews are quite positive, Vector Security also features some negative user reviews as well. While we cannot necessarily confirm the authenticity of these reviews, or the relationship between Vector Security and Trustpilot, this effort to promote honest user reviews at least demonstrates Vector Security’s recognition of the importance of online reviews.

Vector Security’s monthly monitoring fee is much more expensive than other home security companies, and its starting package costs nearly twice as much as that of our top company. Vector Security requires customers to sign up for a 36-month contract, while other companies provide much shorter contracts or no contracts at all. And if customers desire to cancel their services before the contract expires, they will be required to pay 100% of the remaining balance, which could potentially cost hundreds of dollars. Other companies only require 20% to 80% of the balance. Vector Security has licenses in only 32 states, while top home security companies boast a nationwide presence.

Vector Security consistently has problems with customer service. These problems stem from personal accounts and not from the business or national accounts. As such, it would appear that the company is far more concerned with major accounts than with the individual customer.

The Bottom Line

Customers should be comfortable trusting their home security needs to Vector Security. The company keeps to industry standards in terms of equipment, home automation capability, and monitoring options. And the fact that Vector is promoting both positive and negative reviews on its website is a solid attempt at online transparency, which few home security companies truly achieve. Unfortunately, Vector security is also considerably more expensive that other home security companies, and the number and variety of customer complaints suggest that customers may not receive the attention or responsiveness they need. Customers are strongly encouraged to investigate other home security companies with better customer service before making a final decision.

    We had some issues initially with our sales person telling us things that couldn’t be done, but the installer Jim was great and helped us to fix everything and make us very happy with the process. Management was very concerned with making sure the customer was taken care of.

    At the beginning of contract i found Vector to be responsive when calling customer service department, but as the years went by, customer service continue to go down hill, Long waits for assistance on simple questions and days before someone returned calls.
    The product was troublesome to say the least. Alarms going off without cause, my landline not working and repeating to put in password numerous times and the worst was the tech who installed my system used my fax line without my permission for hook-up–this I didn’t find out until this year (3) years later. Now to put the icing on cake, when i told them i was not going to RENEW and ask for them to remove the system from my house, i was told i would have to PAY 89.00 for removal of system you put in. REALLY!!!!

    I’ve been paying for this service for almost four and a half years. In this time I had a low battery alarm twice now. The first time the noise NEVER stopped and it took more than two months to get a service tech here to change the battery. In that time there was no chance of setting the alarm or using the emergency necklace. This is the second time and now my wife has cancer. She had just gotten home from chemo on June 15 when the constant beeping of low battery started and it drove her crazy and Vector was notified. In order to finally shut the noise off I removed the entire cover of the key pad and disconnected the wires and tried to get some reaction from VECTOR still as of Sept 3, NO call back nothing. Obviously VECTOR is still steeling money for a service we can’t use and they will continue to steel for no service rendered for another 10 months. They have made no attempt to reply.. I called yet again last week, this being the third call to VECTOR and still have gotten no call back for a tech to put in a new battery.

    My wife ended up very sick one week after chemo on June 24 and had no way to get help, she was running a fever of 104.8 so she laid in bed until our daughter got here, I was working. My wife ended up in ICU from June 24 to June 28 with an infection that had gone septic, she almost died twice. She could have gotten help much sooner if the alarm had been everything VECTOR promised it would be.

    My advise to anyone thinking of going with VECTOR is RUN THE OTHER WAY. They are totally unreliable and have no problem steeling your money for a system that they won’t service.

    Called me a liar!.. when I told the sales person I work for a national alarm company and I only pay $12.00 a month for my alarm monitoring service and I asked if they could beat it. “You are a liar, I don’t talk to liars” then hung up.

    I am very disappointed with this company. I have been with them under one year and upon signing up with them we asked Fred, our sales representative about relocating and if we could still be serviced. He assured us that we could and that it would be no problem. Fast forward to today and the problems began. Last week I spoke with Julie B. in reference to transferring my service and was informed that I would have to sign another 3 year contract(something the sales representative never made mention of) and she promised to give me a call back by the end of the week after she spoke with the General Manager and that she would also email me with the corporate information. As of today I had not heard anything back so I called back in and spoke with Dave who informed me that Julie B. was on another call and when she got off she would be leaving for the day. I was also informed that I would have to pay another $99 installation fee and sign another 3 year contract with them so I asked for the corporate information again but to no avail. As of 1700, I will have no security protection when I move tomorrow and no answers either so my next step is to seek legal counsel as well as search for other security companies. This company is very unprofessional and misleading. The salesperson was obviously after that almighty dollar and in the customer service world, you are suppose to take care of their needs. The only thing I can say good about them is that when the alarm goes off, they are quick to respond. I didn’t want to cancel my services at all and had plans on fulfilling this original 3yr contract out but I refuse to fork out more money all because I’m relocating.

    In June, our home was stuck by lightning. Our home security system and phone line was damaged in the process. Over the next 3 weeks, we placed at least 4 service calls in to Vector for help. All the while, we had continuous beeping from the system 24 hours a day. I placed calls, was re-directed, ended up on hold and eventually, was disconnected each time. Twice, I got to a message center to leave a message for support and the call was never return. We started out years ago, with Powell protection and eventually Vector bought the newer company out. Finally, I had to disconnect the system myself. There was NO breaker specifically for the system, so I had to wing it and hope that I didn’t get shocked or electrocuted. On my fifth call to the company, I contacted billing to tell them to discontinue service as I wasn’t getting it anyway and was told that I would have to send an email and sign the email for termination. Additionally, I was told that my contract did not end until October. I sent an email with the description and photos of what I had to do and that I didn’t feel I owed them anything as I had not had service since mid June and couldn’t get support to return my calls. Yesterday, I received a past due bill for the “remainder” of the contract which included 30 days past the initial notification of termination by me in writing. I had asked them to have a supervisor give me a call so that I could explain my position and why I expected them to wave the balance. Finally, by my recollection, I never signed an agreement with Vector and if so, it was for SERVICE which was NOT provided by their company. I do NOT intend to pay the balance and I would STRONGLY recommend using someone else with better support and a wireless system. Our new company is Protect America. It is self installed and VERY easy to do and has been top notch so far! Good Luck with your search and avoid Vector at ALL costs. The home office, is NOT local with them it is in California.

    I appreciate these 7 a.m. wake up calls tell me the system battery is low. It’s an actual person that has decided that it’s a good idea to pick up the phone and call me at 7 a.m. and tell me that their product is broken. Great. You know about it… now do something about it. Nobody ever has any solutions other than telling me that the battery is low. And why 7 a.m.? Are you going out of your way to be as irritating as possible? Come on use some common business sense!

    Came by and told me they wanted to update the cell phone part of my system because it was going to need it in a year or two. Told me it would not lock me into a longer contract if I paid a fee. I paid $94 and then when I canceled a year later, they charged me another $497! My fault for being too trusting. But I had service with them for years prior.

    Inflexible. We are moving out of the country and were willing to keep our service…even EXTEND our service, but we asked that the video monitoring be turned off. Don’t want renters thinking we can spy on them. Plus, we wanted to reduce the amount of financial obligations we had in the states.
    But Vector wouldn’t budge. Wouldn’t allow us to extend our contract (making MORE money off us then they would have in the long run). They simply do not work with you. After dealing with pushy sales people and then this, it simply isn’t a good experience. I do not recommend Vector.

    We had Vector for several years but recently went with another security company. Nothing that Vector did; the other company kept adding services to win us over. After getting a bill today for over $300 I found out that once the original contract is up, unless you tell them differently, they automatically renew you for another year. Since we didn’t remember reading that in our original contract years ago we owe them 6 months of service without the service. This never came up when we were negotiating between vector and the service we went with. I was happy with vector and planned to go back if the new service didn’t work out. Not now. I’m sorry now I referred them to people but I won’t be doing it anymore.

    My system is serviced by AVSX and monitoring by Vector Security.
    We built a brand new home and as a builders gift, our builder contracted to have this company install the new Tuxedo panel. The sales person arrived and told us the features and worked with us to get the installation set up. After telling our builder that that he would get a free one year of service for us the installer showed up and wanted money for the installation. Shortly after we moved (a couple months) we received notice that we were in violation of our contract because we had not paid the bill. We didn’t receive one. We were under the impression we were under the one year free paid for by the builder. No we were informed that the money the builder paid went to pay for the equipment. Not long after that we had to have a tech come out due to the panel reporting errors to monitoring service. They sent a tech out with very little knowledge of the system. Had to reschedule the appointment. Next time we received a call the panel was in need of updates and one of the key FOBS we had been given was malfunctioning and setting off the alarm at the house when it was hanging up with the keys. Another appointment. For the last two weeks the panel has been beeping at all hours of the day and night reporting that it has a long range radio fault. Customer service called my husband at work and said someone would call to get it set for an appointment. By the end of the week someone did call, from monitoring at 10pm and said someone would call to set an appointment with me within 2 days. The following week my husband received a call and they set up an appointment for Thursday, at 10am. So now 2 weeks of this panel beeping (sometimes all through the night, sometimes every 15 minutes, sometimes all through the day). No one shows for the appointment and when I call I am told that someone did call my husband yesterday to inform them the tech called in sick and they were hung up on. They dialed the wrong number! Now we can get you in on the first available appointment which is Monday at 9am, and they are supposed to comp me a free month of service. This system is horrible. The service is terrible. Considering pulling the contract due breach on the company’s part for providing working, timely service. What a waste of money!

    This company soaked my mother since 2008 until 2017 with no knowledge that her landline had been disconnected. Just bill every month with no check on her security system at all,with that in mind what if she had an emergency it would have been never that they would have been aware. DO NOT BUY THEIR SYSTEM OR SERVICES. they also wouldn’ t acknowledge their lack of support. A bunch of non caring,easy money hungry YUPPIES.

    Totally dishonest company. I cancelled my contract when they raised my rate. Sent them a certified letter which they ignored. Since I didn’t receive a written response from them within 30 days, which was April 06, 2017, I consider that they agreed with my cancellation request.They then sent me a letter stating that I owe them $242.20 for a buyout/end of contract. Also, Special Promotions told us that after the first renewal we could cancel at any time with NO PENALTY. I have this in writing and they sent it to a collection agency anyway. I called the collection agency and told them this and they asked for all this in writing, which I provided since Vector told them nothing. AS of 07/16/17 I am still waiting for the review by the collection agency.

    I have had very bad experience with Vector. Got trapped in contract for an extra year. Contract ran out June 2017. I requested in Feb 2017 for my contract to be cancelled it is now July and they still haven’t cancelled service. I have spoken with customer service several times (I have names) and requested a direct supervisor to contact me ( I have his name) no response yet. My account was paid up until time contract should have ended. They will get no more payments from me. I would never recommend Vector Security to anyone. My next step is to contact Better Business.

    My family recently moved into a house that was equipped with vector security. The previous owners had clearly stopped paying for a device they were no longer using. Unfortunately this device beeps 5 times every single minute. We have a seven month old who is not sleeping with the constant beeping. We called customer service to figure out how to stop this incessant beeping and were repeatedly told there was nothing they could do for us except send us a manual so we can figure it out. And guess what; this user manual is NOT user friendly. Before moving we had considered starting up a contract with them because the device was already installed. After this abysmal customer service we will never sign up with them and will make sure to discourage anyone we know from doing business with them as well.

    I have had Vector for 5 years. During this time the cost of security systems have dropped. I can find a plan like I have for half the price I am paying. I was locked into a 5 year contract where most are 3 and I was lied to by the sales representative. I was told Vector would come out every year and inspect my system to make sure batteries were not dead and everything was working properly. Then I called on 6/5 to cancel my contract and found out that you had to give a 30 day in advance notice when you wanted to cancel. Yes this was on my contract but that was 5 years ago. Most companies give you a grace period to cancel. Now I am locked in for another year. Also I have been charged all of these years for being able to control my system with my Smartphone. I did not even have a smartphone when I purchased the system. I am very disappointed and this company I think uses every dirty trick to keep customers. I think I will go ahead and send in my cancellation for next year so I don’t miss the date. If I go ahead and cancel now I will have to pay for the complete year they have signed me up for. Sick of this company!

    Long time Vector customer. Speaking with a rep is next to impossible. Very excessive wait times, multiple extension changes (resulting in dropped calls, requiring start over) Rapid, unclear speech, making it difficult to understand. After wasting 20-30 minutes, I give up. We pay a premium price for the service and deserve better customer service.
