Vector Security has been providing both home and business security solutions for over 40 years. The company has taken home several awards for its equipment and service, including the 2015 Dealer of the Year award from SDM Magazine. The company provides a number of home security and home automation devices at zero money down, and promotes both positive and negative customer reviews on its site; however, Vector security is also much more expensive than industry leaders, and its limited availability and poor customer service may prevent the company from being a first choice in home security.

Vector Security provides regional and national security monitoring services to both individual and business clients through the use of landline and cellular monitoring systems. These systems ensure that service is never lost due to technical issues with phone lines or the power grid. This company has also been recognized nationally for its false alarms protocols which greatly reduce expense for homeowners and authorities alike. Furthermore, the company offers extensive educational resources through their online site to assist customers with a wide variety of security issues and technical questions.

In addition to some impressive home security features, Vector Security also provides automated devices that can be controlled through a mobile app. Customers can monitor and control lighting, appliances, locks, and cameras. Vector Security’s CloudControl feature allows customers to save recorded security camera footage to a cloud account. Other home security companies may require you to save videos to a personal computer, or another location with much more limited memory. And as Vector Security provides professional installation, the fact that it charges zero upfront or installation costs is noteworthy.

Vector Security features a number of actual user reviews on its website through a third-party service called Trustpilot. While a majority of the reviews are quite positive, Vector Security also features some negative user reviews as well. While we cannot necessarily confirm the authenticity of these reviews, or the relationship between Vector Security and Trustpilot, this effort to promote honest user reviews at least demonstrates Vector Security’s recognition of the importance of online reviews.

Vector Security’s monthly monitoring fee is much more expensive than other home security companies, and its starting package costs nearly twice as much as that of our top company. Vector Security requires customers to sign up for a 36-month contract, while other companies provide much shorter contracts or no contracts at all. And if customers desire to cancel their services before the contract expires, they will be required to pay 100% of the remaining balance, which could potentially cost hundreds of dollars. Other companies only require 20% to 80% of the balance. Vector Security has licenses in only 32 states, while top home security companies boast a nationwide presence.

Vector Security consistently has problems with customer service. These problems stem from personal accounts and not from the business or national accounts. As such, it would appear that the company is far more concerned with major accounts than with the individual customer.

The Bottom Line

Customers should be comfortable trusting their home security needs to Vector Security. The company keeps to industry standards in terms of equipment, home automation capability, and monitoring options. And the fact that Vector is promoting both positive and negative reviews on its website is a solid attempt at online transparency, which few home security companies truly achieve. Unfortunately, Vector security is also considerably more expensive that other home security companies, and the number and variety of customer complaints suggest that customers may not receive the attention or responsiveness they need. Customers are strongly encouraged to investigate other home security companies with better customer service before making a final decision.

    I have had Vector Security for about seven years. They have provided excellent monitoring service. We had an issue at the very beginning where one of the installers started texting my underage teenage daughter after getting her phone number off the contact list. But after that, everything was great. Until now. Ready for updated equipment, landline base to cellular. Totally uncooperative, total lack of customer appreciation, and more willing to tell me how to cancel than to discuss options. My only negative issue is with customer service, not the monitoring end. So their lack of customer service has caused me to look for another company.

    WORST COMPANY EVER IF YOU WANT SECURITY!!! RUN RUN RUN away! Your better off with a baseball bat and a dog protecting your property. My cameras never work, customer service is awful and I was never a priority! In fact my house was vandalized while my cameras weren’t working over the weekend and I was told a tech would be here the Wednesday before the incident occurred. If they had kept their word I could have caught the person who did this to my house. They won’t replace my cameras with the “upgraded’ cameras despite numerous issues and the fact that I pay over $60 a month.. I actually hate this company

    Vector Security has an automatic 1-year renewal clause in it’s contract that they will pursue through a collection agency. They claims it’s to give you a piece of security but in reality it’s just one of their scams hoping people will not notice after the term of their contract is over. Do not use this company. ANy company the stoops to this level of deceit with their argument being this is typical of contracts is deplorable. It’s their way of trapping consumers into paying fees for no service. I would avoid Vector if possible.

    This says that there are no upfront costs, but I paid a lot of money to get my system. Also, I am paying $49.95 a month, which seems very high for the service. My contract says that mine is for 5 years, again outlandish. Would love to get these issues resolved.

    NEVER GET VICTOR SECURITY THEY CONTROLLING YOUR PRIVACY AND VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE . IN WINTERTIME THEY CONTROL MY THERMOSTAT AND THEY PUT IT IN 67 DEGREES,I CAN NOT EVEN CONTROL MY HOME THERMOSTART.

    WE HAD FALSE ALARMS OVER AND OVER. WE CALLED THEM AND THEY NEVER SENT ANYONE.WE WERE WITH THEM FOR ABOUT FIVE YEARS AND WHEN WE CANCELED THEY TRIED CHARGING OVER $400 SAYING I WAS IN A CONTRACT AND MY CONTRACT WAS OVER AFTER 3YEARS. THEY WILL CALL AND HARASS YOU OVER AND OVER. SAVE YOURSELF A HEADACHE AND FIND SOMEONE ELSE.

    Vector is the worst home security system I have ever used.

    The failure is due to the company hiring subcontractors to do their service and repair work.
    Monitoring is OK, but it reminds me of that popular tv commercial now where the guy is sitting in the dental chair and the dentist says to him “we don’t fix cavities, we just let you know if you have any”. Then leaves you there in the chair.

    By the way, I am here now waiting, it’s after 4:30 and the tech was supposed to be here between 12 and 2. I called customer service who assured me he would be here by 4.

    Whwn I brought my first home it already had vector security system installed. The sales rep told me called me ans told me that once I signed the mortgage agreement that they had to change the password for safety. I told him that I was heading out of town ,but then I felt that he used the fact that I was rushing to go out of town, the excitement of buying my first home and my inexperienced in buying my first home against me. He then .sxared me because he said that someone that viewed the home could break into it.because they had the security code. I thought that I was just changing the password.I was not informed about the price. I also was not informed about the length of the contract nor the cancelation policy. I call to see if I could lower my monthly payment because it is too expensive and customer service was no help. I even ask what thw cancellation fee was and then I was told that if I cancel my contract that I would still have to pay the entire contract off. If a customer is having financial issues and they contacted the company to try and get some assistance only to be told that they would not lower my cost for 3 years. ( I have not even completed my first year). PLEASE DO NO SIGN OR SELECT THIS COMPANY WITHOUT READING EVERY LINE IN THEIR CONTRACT. NOR DO NOT TAKE THE SALES PERSON’S WORD

    Do Not under any circumstances purchase this Security system.. Trying to cancel this after contract has ended will take an Act of Congress. And we all know how slow that is.. The phone calls Do Not help because you keep getting transferred to someone else and then usually ends with, We will call you back!!! I do not and will not recommend this to anyone, not even my worst enemy!!!!!

    I cancelled my service because I sold my house and moved. I had been in contact with Vector about the new owners being interested in continuing service, and made sure they had my correct phone number and email. They sent a final invoice to my old address with no attempt to contact me by phone or email. Four months later I get a call from a collections agency about an unpaid invoice. Terrible customer service and followup. I would have used them again, but definitely not now.

    Have used Vector service for 20+ years and never a problem. Customer service has been very good. The occasional alarm (false) has been promptly responded and resolved. Did an upgrade several years ago and that was handled very efficiently. I have shopped other services and find Vector to be very competitive.

    gis company absolutely blows they ruined my credit rating becuase they refused to to comply with their contracts and I refused to pay for cut rate service provided by bullies. their debt collectors are apparently bullies too Ill be filling with the better business and anyone else who are interested !

    Slow response when the alarm has inadvertently gone off. Slow response for customer service. Did not tell us about the 5 year contract and unfortunately we didn’t read the long tiny-print when we started. Also told us when we called near the end of the 5 years, that we could continue on a monthly basis. Again there was small print in the original contract that the contract automatically renews for 1 year each year after the initial contract ended.

    Sneaky contract adding additional 1 year periods after 3 year original contract ends, this isn’t explained or even mentioned at signing, when questioned they said I had to send in 30 days notice, in writing on their notice of intent to cancel. Not a word of this was told to me, and after 4.5 years of service I tried to cancel to which they said I owed them 39.95 x 6 months to cancel and they would turn in to credit bureau if I didn’t pay. Well my time is up now and I cancelled with a 30 day notice by email on the email they sent me to cancel.
    Worst company I’ve ever dealt with and that’s a sad statement considering cell phone, satellite tv services, and cable companies which the u.s. citizens must deal with, and who doesn’t know these problems. Customer service is the most rude, smart mouth, low-life scumbags I encountered in my life, check before you even consider this company for your security service.

    Smoke alarm went off at approximately 2:40pm on 10/24/16 (no smoke, no fire, wasn’t cooking). I put my code in and the alarm failed to respond. This went on for over an hour (until 4:02pm). Vector called my house ph & I explained the situation (line was disconnected). Vector called back several minutes later & I again explained the situation (line disconnected again). Vector called a third time (alarm still going off/not responding to code) & stated that they would transfer over to the tech dept. I was on hold forever when another rep came on the line (cust. service) & stated that all the tech’s were busy and she would send them an email to call me. They did call however, the next day (10/25/16) at 10:05am. I will more than likely cancel my service w/this company. This is not the 1st time I’ve had this problem (smoke alarm) and their customer service doesn’t meet my standards.
