Vector Security provides regional and national security monitoring to both individual and business clients through the use of landline and cellular monitoring service. These systems ensure that alarm function is never lost due to technical issues with phone lines or the power grid.

The Good

Positive Customer Review Highlights

  • Home security alarm worth the price
  • Good customer service

Smart Home Automation

In addition to some impressive alarm features, Vector Security also provides automated devices that can be controlled by a mobile app. A customer can monitor and control lighting, appliances, locks, and security cameras. Vector Security’s CloudControl feature allows each customer to save recorded security camera footage to a cloud account. Other home security companies may require a customer to save videos to a personal computer, or another location with much more limited memory.
Vector Security integrates with the Amazon Echo, so people can use voice control to secure their home (lock doors, turn on cameras, and turn the alarm on and off).

False Alarm Protocol

Vector Security has a nationally recognized 12-point false alarm reduction protocol. Their equipment is able to pick up on non-emergency situations, such as delayed password verification. This helps cut back on the number of false alarms home security owners see.

No Upfront Costs; Professional Installation Service

Vector Security does not have any upfront installation or equipment fees. Those who sign up with other home security companies often pay $99 or more for installation. And those who choose to buy their system outright can potentially spend thousands of dollars getting their system set up. All of these services are professionally installed and monitored.

The Bad

Most Common Complaints From Vector Security Reviews

  • Trouble getting ahold of customer service
  • Automatic renewal of contract
  • Difficult cancellation

Vector Security Customer Review Highlight

Review from Ariel Mathis, 5/2/2019

Our system had broke so I called them to come over and fit in the guy came and said he needed to order a part for it. The guy never called me back. I literally called the company over 10 times for them to fix it and they always made a excuse and it was out for almost a year! While I’m still paying monthly fees! They started to credit me back my money on future payments but again My system still wasn’t working so I in the end I never got a refund for the 10 months I paid for no service. Terrible customer service!

Cancellation Policy

As previously mentioned, a common theme in our Vector Security reviews is that the alarm policy is very difficult and expensive to cancel. Vector Security requires customers to sign up for a 36-month service contract, while other companies provide much shorter contract or no contract at all. And if a customer desires to cancel their alarm services before the contract expires, they will be required to pay 100% of the remaining balance, which could potentially cost hundreds of dollars. Other companies only require 20% to 80% of the balance.

High Monthly Cost

Monthly, Vector Security charges $39.95 for “Basic Security”. This basic system includes:

  • Professional installation and monitoring
  • 3 door/window sensors
  • 1 motion detector
  • Wireless control panel / monitoring center

The company has three home security packages available: Basic Security, Home Automation, and Connected Home. Costs of the home automation packages (Home Automation and Connected Home) are undisclosed on the company’s website. Many companies charge less than $39.95 for their most basic home security system.
Customers interested in an indoor camera and door lock will need to purchase the Connected Home package from Vector Security. There is also an option to pay an additional $10 a month for cameras and door locks in the Home Automation package. Both can be monitored from the phone with the Vectory Security app.

Limited Locations

Vector home security is only available in the Eastern regions of The United States. The following states are included in Vector Security’s service area: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

View Nationwide Home Security Companies

The Bottom Line

Vector is one of the only home security companies with no up-front costs plus a professional installation service. However, for those interested solely in a home security service, they will be able to find monthly monitoring services at lower than what Vector Security offers. Because the company’s basic alarm package is so expensive, we can only assume that their home automation packages are sold at equally high costs. We recommend reading our reviews of Vector Security below before making any final decisions. View our top home security companies to compare costs, contract lengths, and consumer scores.

I had two accounts with vector security. I could not upgrade my phone system with out expensive upgrade to my security system. Sent two letters one for each account to cancel the services at the same time to the same mailing address. They cancelled one account and did not cancel the other. They did not notify me and now they are holding me hostage for a year before I can cancel again. Do not buy their service. I have discussed this with several people that answer the phone at their locations with out success.

Terrible, My phone service went down and is always sketchy so i decided to cancel service and cant get a good cell signal to get security to work so had to cancel vector with 9 months remaining that they will not have to provide service. this was out of my control so you would think they would cut me a break seeing as i had the service for about 6 years and would have went back once my phone issues were cleared up. Never again

We replaced ADT with Vector 2 years ago because of bad service. The Vector West Palm Beach representative/ installer was a nice guy with huge personal problems and couldn’t give any followup service. Yup, he went out of business.

Our new Vector person, Danny, is all the way down in Plantation, an hour away, yet is very knowledgeable, responsive and helpful. Unfortunately, we have had him here on service calls numerous times because of faulty signals and equipment. Issues from the alarm not disengaging when door lock key pad is used to thermostat running a muck and cameras blacking out. All items they installed.

The monitoring service and call center are excellent and very responsive.
We are now looking for a new provider because I cant worry about the system not working for me, baby sitter or cleaning people.

We have had Vector security for our very large home for 16 months now. The sales rep was informative and listened to our concerns. We built the system together without him trying to sell unneeded components. The wifi signal in our very old and large home was difficult to connect to so they added repeaters which have worked flawlessly for a year now. If we have an issue customer service is quick to respond and a tech is sent within 2 to 3 day if it is not an emergency. Vector has been outstanding to work with for our home security needs.

Absolutely hands down the worst security company I have ever dealt with. The customer service staff is so unprofessional and rude. I really believe the devices are just props. My doorbell camera will send 75+ notifications for one incident ie. motion or ring. The customer service( if that’s what you want to call them) says to me “so you don’t want to receive notifications on your phone?” Ummm… I would love to receive notifications just not 75 of them for one ring or motion. Driveway camera does not pick up motion. As a matter of fact someone broke into my husbands truck and when we checked the cameras, it showed nothing. Poor equipment, poor monitoring and poor customer service. Do yourself a favor and don’t go with them.

Complete waste of money. It’s $49.99 for 36 months then they slightly lower the price to 39.99. Do yourself a favor and go with simply safe or some other company. Don’t fall for the sales pitch. Yeah they monitor your statement but so do other companies for alot less.

Vector Security was AWFUL. The system continuously ‘faulted’ (sent false alarms) in cold weather, despite multiple service calls to supposedly correct the system. It never worked properly. Then when we attempted to terminate the agreement, we learned that Vector is a “pay ahead” service provider and that you have to provide 30 days written notice of termination. The result is that you pay for service long after you no longer want it.

Don’t get Vector Security because they will rip you off. When you sign an agreement with them they don’t tell you that the contract is for 3 years. When you try to cancel you have to pay for three years and they will make your bill higher each year. They don’t want to cooperate at all.

Previous servicer was acquired by Vector which is now requiring full payment after contract automatically renewed even though house was sold, and new owner refuses to use them. What Vector doesn’t know is that customer is CEO of a large real estate investment company that will not be soliciting a bid from them on a large commercial contract due to their greed and overall poor customer service ratings.

I wanted to cancel my contract with them and so i called and they said I need to Send in a hand written letter. I sent them the letter and a couple months go by and i hear nothing from them. I then receive a call from a bill collector and apparently I owe them 1300 dollars . They said they never received my letter and now I am having to work my military job and jobs on the side so i can pay them back without going broke.

We have had this security system for 5 months now and we have had nothing but good come from it. It is a bit high in cost and less bang for your buck as far as what you get included in your package but for us it was worth leaving vivant. After longer service with this company we will revisit the review and update again. Thus far we have been monitored as promised and no customer service complaint at this time as all interactions have been good.

I was a customer of Powell Security which as acquired by another company which was then acquired by Vector. I discovered my home was no longer being monitored after we switched from a land line to VOIP. Vector had no method of detecting that home wasn’t being monitored until I inquired. I verbally requested that a Vector rep suspended my account until I understood the additional hardware and cost options necessary to re-enable monitoring. I then wrote cancel on my quarterly bill of $81.16 and thought the suspension would be in place. Weeks later I received a late notice and contacted Vector through their website. I received a personalized acknowledgement of the history and request I provided but no other communication from them until almost two months later. Meanwhile I received a new bill for $256. Vector claimed I owed them for another quarter plus contract buyout fee. I never signed a contract with Vector, they inherited me as a customer, and I simply started receiving bills with their name on it after their acquired the previous security company. Within days I also received a collections firm bill for over $325. Before and during this time I made multiple calls to Vector and was transferred multiple times to other individuals who provided no help at all, while the collection agency makes multiple harassing calls to my family. To make the whole matter go away, I settled and paid, which I would normally not do. As a final insult, Vector then finally responded to my website inquiry almost two months later saying my “write-off” is pending, contradicting what every other Vector rep told me and after I had settled. The whole experience was sleazy, like a scam. Consider other more technically advanced solutions, Vector’s technology, model, and support are dinosaurs. Terrible in every respect.

Horrible company and deceitful! Shame on me for believing anything spoken and not reading closely the fine print. They are scam artists and don’t care at all about their customers. I was led to believe that if we moved we would be able to cancel the contract at no expense to us and without any problems. What they neglected to tell you was if it wasn’t transfered to your new residence then you would be charged the full remaining balance. Totally lied to my face.
I’m furious with this company. Don’t trust them.

Every time I call for service wait at east 30 or more minutes on hold. The always have an excuse. Cameras did not work. Set up service and they called the day before to confirm and never showed up because they said I was not on the schedule. Second time they came they said they did not have time to fix the cameras and they would call to schedule. HaHa! A month later I have not heard a word. I am on the phone, on hold, of course and on the 34th minute of holding. With this miserable company, what else?
